Confessions of a Shopaholic Movie

GROSS. That is not Becky Bloomwood. Those fashions make me want to hurl.

-------------

SPOILER

Review from the test screening and it is not good.

"Saw screening - seriously disappointing"

"The movie doesn't follow the book at all. I know that liberties have to be taken, but this wasn't even the same story. I don't think I would have liked this movie even if i'd never read the books".

"The acting was good. Isla Fisher was adorable, and while the guy who plays Luke Brandon was not what i anticipated, I liked him. It's hard to say. I think the characters are far less developed than in the book, so i guess that's a writing deficiency. It could have been a great movie and not have follow the book, but it's a mediocre movie that doesn't follow the book, which is disappointing, because the books are great".

"Becky Bloomwood of the movie is not nearly as likable, understandable or as redeamable as the girl in the book. We don't understand what's motivating her, and most of her good attributes are left out of the movie - contributing to her being a less sympathetic/relatable character".

Glad i get to save £10 cause I am not seeing this flith.

I saw the preview on Friday night... It really didn't look that good, nobody in the theatre laughed

I think Isla playing Becky is alright but the actual character is nothing like Becky and of course the clothes... wtf? I was expecting her to have a classy style, not like this Carrie Bradshaw nonsense
Often book characters are too subtle, I guess thats why they felt the need to change her character so much for the film. It should have been a Bridget Jones type movie instead of this ****

If the film had followed the book I would be excited to see the pizza restaurant scene with Tarquin hahaha.

^^ Hehe, that would've been a good scene!

MTV interviewed Patricia Fields about styling the movie and this is what she said:

"It's just a little eclectic mix of something cute, something designer," Field said. "It was an opportunity for me to create a different look for people to see that they haven't really seen before. It's fashion-forward but an exaggerated for this extreme character who can't stop shopping."
So you were kind of right about taking the subtle out of the character but sometimes I think that it's good to really make the character stand out in the film - you just can't miss Rebecca in every scene!

Just saw the movie and I liked it better than I expected. The story was different than the book's and Isla Fisher is nothing like I pictured Rebecca, but I thought she was adorable. As for the clothing, I felt like most of Rebecca's wardrobe looks better on film than in pictures. Her clothes were a bit on the flashy/colourful side, but I think it was a way to showcase her attitude toward life (don't know if it makes sense, but that's what I felt). But the only wardrobe I wish I could raid is Suze's. Loved her clothes.
So overall, I loved the movie--but I must admit I had trouble focusing every time Hugh Dancy was on screen. The close-ups on his face alone were worth the price of admission.

my scans from Cosmo Russia February 2009 and some Thai posters sent to me by a friend

Terrible

just saw it.
honestly pat field needs to retire pronto.
this was horrible, it seemed like it was hollywoods take on "high fashion"
it looked cheap and tacky.
it was over the top in a bad way. all the outfits where plain and horrendous.
THIS IS NOT A MOVIE TO SEE. it has NOTHING to do with fashion!!!!

I thought the movie was really cute too! I agree that Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy were adorable in the movie. :P I thought Isla was hilarious, especially that fan dance! LOL I definitely think that Rebecca's wardrobe was a reflection of her personality and attitude - I think Pat Fields did a great job of showing that!

I just saw it today with my grandma (who's now in love w Hugh Dancy :P ) and I thought it was ok but I don't think it was the most cohesive movie. It seemed to have a lot of dead time, just like parts that didn't really fit right or didn't have the right amount of punch or something

i'm gonna see it on friday, with my best friend. u will have my opinion on friday or saturday ^_^

I just saw this movie and it is adorable! I've read all the books and yes - it does not follow the books directly, but they basically condensed books 1 - 3 into a two hour film so they had to cut away with some things. The really important bits are there.

As for the style, honestly - this film isn't about style/fashion (not like The Devil Wears Prada was). It's a romantic comedy about a girl who is a big spender and gets into debt. In the books, she not only buys clothes, but picture frames, groceries, strollers, etc.

My theatre really liked it. I think Isla and Hugh had great chemistry and Isla was really the star of the film. She has great comedic timing.

I have to have the red flannel dress! if anyone can ID or something similar that would be soo amazing!!

So guess what. I got "dragged" to this last night but I didn't pay so haha. This chick in the line behind us leaned over and said "Are you a fan of the books" I'm like "yeah so I'm boycotting". She goes "It's ok just do what I did and pretend it's a completely different story". Had no choice as it was the only thing starting besides Bolt.

It wasn't as bad as 27 Dresses but it was no Legally Blonde either. It says in the credits that it's a combo of the first three books. All the actors were wrong for their roles. I like Isla but she is not Becky. Kristen Ritter as Suze was terrible. Kristen Scott Thomas looked ghastly. She must have owed someone a favor to do this. I can't believe Lynn Redgrave yes THE Lynn Redgrave was cast as Drunken Lady at Ball. How insulting. I can only hope that her scenes were cut.

I know we have seen the pics but the fashion on the actual screen hurts your eyes. She fights over these boots in one scene and I just went "who would fight over those boots they are hideous". The green scarf looked like leftovers from the end of the role of fabric. The bridesmaid dresses were just lame. Becky didn't even pick it. Pat Field should just stick to Sex & the City and Ugly Betty.

The soundtract was terrible. I just don't get it. Has the person incharge of the music never seen a chick flick before.

I feel like I have betrayed the other fans who are against this but please don't judge too harshly it wasn't my money.

I still hope (even though it probably won't happen) that the books, as in all 5 seperately, will get made into true adaptions ie BRITISH, one day.

I really didn't like the relationship between Luke and Becky. Especially at the end of the film when they're all 'I love you' blah, blah - it seemed rushed and I found that I didn't really care about them either way, I just wanted the credits to roll

I feel he should have been cooler and more aloof toward her and there should have been mention of Sacha! And Becky should have had more funny retorts to him as in the book.

I kept thinking how good the whole Harvey Nichols part would have looked on screen where Becky leaves when she finds out he had a girlfriend etc.

Suze and Tarquin! Boring. I mean their storyline is so good in the books! it should have been explored with Tarquin asking Becky out and her wanting him for the money.

The film was so boring, so painfully predictable and fairly humourless

I saw it like, two weeks ago. It was OK but an overload of clichés, the only thing that made me watch the movie was the incredibly hot Hugh. Apart from that, hated the styling, the story was "blah" and the only thing i thought that was funny was when she was dancing like crazy with her fan (is it the correct word?).
