@Not Plain Jane: A lot of the attendees interpreted the "technology" theme to include fabrics made with machines/new techniques. So a sequined dress with extra beading, depending on how it was made, could technically be showcasing the use of technology in fashion. Not very sci-fi, but still technology.

yes; i do understand this interpretation. and yet it just doesn't "feel" or "seem" techno to me.

arguably, then, one could have said that any dress made with a "d.i.y. aesthetic" could be interpreted as punk - i.e., for the punk theme at the met - and that it has nothing to do with how the actual outfit appears.

but imo, themes can get a little convoluted and/or diluted in that case.

^I agree that the theme becomes a bit pointless if the guests have to explain their dresses... It would definitely be more fun if people tried something more out of the ordinary!
