OK, if we can have a French fashion and Italian fashion thread, I think we can have a Spanish fashion thread.

This stems from my newfound love of certain styles/fabrics at the (relatively inexpensive) Spain-based clothing chain Zara... at least compared to U.S. counterparts! And, a memory that I've bought a lot of nice leather shoes that were well-made and had good styling, from Spain.

So what are people wearing there now? (Bullfighters and tomatoes aside.)

And what would you say characterizes essential Spanish style?

To start, some Spanish designer resources:
http://www.fashionfromspain.com

And from http://www.donquijote.org/culture/spain/fashion/:

"..outstanding are names like Antonio Miro', Agatha Ruiz of the Prada, Pure Lopez, whose products they are distributed in Asia, Australia, Latin America and great part of Europe, Amaya Arzuaga, Pedro of the Iron, Rabanne Alpaca... One releases list of creators who sell anywhere in the world.
In the case of the Sevillians Victorio & Lucchino their designs can be found in the best stores of New York, in Paris are a datum point, selling also in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan. Others have managed to be known being united, as it is the case of the Textile Association of Galicia, that counts between its members names so recognized as Adolph Domínguez, Javier Canes Caramel, or Verino Robert. ..."

Don't even go there with Custo Barcelona but Armand Basi and Adolfo Dominguez are both pretty cool.

i don't really know much about spanish fashion - is Loewe spanish? who designs for it now?

so are the spanish sexier dressers than the rest of europeans (thats the preconception I have of them). Lots of leather, fringing, full skirts, low cut tops etc. Am i right? Interested to hear.

Cristobal Balenciaga is another little known Spanish designer of course...

I don't think Spanish people have great style. I'm Spanish and, yes, I see people who dress really well and cool, but with a similar style to other countries. In general, people here is very conservative and everybody is the same. Obviously there are exceptions, but I don't see it so often.
About designers, there are some current Spanish designers I like, for example the couple of designers of Ailanto, pics of S/S 05 collection:

 lmao.

I like some Armand Basi stuff as well. And I actually own one non-flashy Custo Barcelona t-shirt. It took me a long time to find it though...

And, yes, Helena, Loewe!!! Currently designed by a Spanish born, Belgian trained young designer Jose Enrique ona Selfa (sorry if i got the spelling wrong :p). Very feminine, very sexy in a Spanish way. I like it.

Miriam Ocariz, who has her own line and also designs for Armand Basi. She usually has original prints in her designs, made by her.

Don't forget bridal wear designers..Spain is big in that particular niche !

Josep Abril es molt be . :p

I used to like Adolfo Dominguez in the late 80s , but he's got very ' safe ' and lost his edginess . The clientele is the 30s to 50s age group , now .

There's a thread somewhere on the site on SPASTOR , who are not to be forgotten .

Barcelona boutiques like ZAS are treasure troves of Catalan/Spanish labels .

I think that the Loewe boutiques in Spain sell menswear - leather or otherwise - which is not to be found their non- Iberian boutiques .

Guess who owns LOEWE . You got it . LVMH .

Josep Font is great:heart:

I've only recently discovered this designer and I think some of his work is really interesting. Does anyone know what the price range for his clothing is?

Josep Font is quite expensive, not as big French or Italian brands but yet expensive. Skirts 300-400 euros, dresses 700-1000 euros, jumpers or shirts 300-400 euros, but he has a lovely younger, 2nd line which is cheaper.

^ thanks, that gives me a better understanding of the brand.

There are quite a lot Spanish designers that I like. I didn't expect I would, but Spanish fashion turned out to be different from what I had in mind till about half a year ago.
