The 2011 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover girl, as unveiled by David Letterman on his Monday night show. Her name is Irina Shayk and she is soaking up the sun on the beaches of Maui.

Shayk is the first Russian cover model, and her photo was taken by Bjorn Ioss, son of long-time Sports Illustrated photographer Walter Iooss Jr. It's his first shoot for the magazine and we're told this photo was the first shot he took.

Other familiar faces include Cintia Dicker (3 appearances), Esti Ginzburg (3), Jessica Gomes (4), Julie Henderson (5), Damaris Lewis (3), Genevieve Morton (2), Hilary Rhoda (3), Chrissy Teigen (2), Anne V (7) and Jessica White (8). It reminds me of the Beyoncé cover but yeah all in all it's not a good shot, I agree that in comparison to the previous covers and even to last year, this one is really bad: weird pose as she's trying to balance with her hands, the body doesn't look as hot as it cool be and her face isn't that exceptional here.

congrats to Irina. I don't get why people keep referencing her boyfriend, he's not even famous here in America. If anything all that GQ business/attending many celeb events this year put her name out there, more than he did...

I'm 110% certain they only put it as the cover image because her boobs are totally going to pop out.

Overall, I think she's really pretty, but I don't like the cover shot.

This is the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and the cover is certainly appropriate for its purpose and target. I like Irina's hair, skin tone and eyes but I wish that her facial expression was more relaxed.
