St Ives Apricot Scrub, Good or Evil

I use it a few times a week and I personally love it, but the key is moderation with anything even slightly abrasive.....you can wind up doing more damage then good if you use it too often.

This is what I honestly recommend to all of you.

If you haven't used it yet, don't start.
If you're using it now, try to discontinue the use until you eventually don't use it anymore.
IF your skin REALLY misses it, go back to it.

I'm probably an anomaly, but I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub on my face every morning in the shower, and my skin has never looked better. I have always had very oily skin, and this scrub has virtually eliminated all of the clogged pores that I had around my chin and neck. I'd definitely ask a dermatologist before using this product, since for some, the scrub can cause irritation which exacerbates acne. In my case this product worked miracles, but YMMV. (They also have recently introduced a milder formula with finer grains, which might work better for those with more sensitive skin.)

That's interesting.
Finer grains might make this product less aggressive.

i used to use this stuff...until i got a piece of the scrub in my eye. it scratched the surface of my eye and i had to wear an eyepatch for 2 weeks while my eye healed.

definatley stay away from this stuff!

^ouch. always stay about 2 inches away from your eyes with any product!

hmm.... i like the apricot scrub., just not st. ives version of it. i buy mine at the orgo-food store for like 1/2 the price. it doesn't leave any residue like the st. ives version does (it always left my skin kind of slippery feeling, rather than smooth and squeeky). the orgo stuff i use is just awesome.

i only recommend using it once a week, and only in areas that really need exfoliation (I use it around the perimeter of my face, chin and nose; thats it) and no where near eyes.

Love it, in the shower twice a week
When just washing face I just use a milk (loreal currently) face wash

IMO St Ives is the devil's cleanser. My skin normally takes anything I throw at it but I got the most terrible rash with this. To be fair if I use any kind of scrub with hard grains in it my skin breaks out. The best way to exfoliate is to wash your face with your normal cleanser and then get a face cloth or facial brush and gently rub it off.

do you have to have quite bad skin to go and see a dermotolagist (sp?),cus my skin isnt that bad at the moment, but i would like to go and see 1 to see if he has any advice on what products to use ect.

This might sound really dirty... but what i found was i was using this product for a while, not sure which 1,and my face was quite bad and it wasnt working. Then i ran out of it and i didnt get a new one for a few weeks, and i found that in them few weeks,i wasnt doing nothing for my skin except washing it with water, that is cleared up and my skin looked alot better!!!

i love it! i always use it on my skin and face. well not so often on my face

You should efinatly not use this scrub- the apricot in it is too large which opens up your pores- in the long run and when you're older you'll have big pores on your face- it'll look terrible!

you can tell your skin type by the size of your pores- if you can see the pores and they are quite large then you have oily skin- if you can only see the pores around your chin, forehead and nose then its oily/combination skin

If you have invisible pores then the chances are you have dry skin because the oil isnt getting out.

Ideally we need average pores lol

You shouldnt use the st ives apricot scrubs or any apricot scrub- the apricot is too harsh!!! its like using a nail brush on your skin

theres a garnier exfoliator ( in the blue container - i think its called deep pore or something) - it says to use it twice daily but you're not supposed to exfoliate twice a day!!!!!!!!!! I tried using it once a week and it still dried out my skin.

Once a week i use the body shop body wash- it makes my skin feel so soft. The exfoliator in it is actually too big but i use it extremely gently.

If you are going to use the apricot scrubs - BE GENTLE and dont over do it. Use something else as well and only use the scrub once or twice a week.

Botantical extracts has a good exfoliator which i use on clients because its made for sensitive skin so you cant really go wrong. I have also started using Pure Zone by Loreal with is great :)

Your skin you never feel squeaky clean because then you have stripped it of too much oil and it means your skin will be oily in the days to come and you'll most likely break out.

I have learnt most of this the hard way unfortunatly and when i learnt make-up artistry i realised what had been going wrong all this time.

You should always exfoliate during the week if you wear make-up- you dont realise the different until you do :D

Look after your skin people, we're stuck with it
hehe

Sorry i have rattled on like this but i thought i'd give my opinion:D

Great post Mk's Beauty Shop and thank you very much for the tips!

I use it like once or twice a week before putting my self-tan creme... I guess I'll stop that! :p

I love exfoliators because they make me feel so clean and removed of dirt... which is why I started using thing, because it was harsh and made me feel "cleaner." Is this wrong?

There exist less powerful scrubs that accomplish exactly the same thing without being so harsh on the skin.

If you don't need to scrub at all, don't think about using this or any other scrub in general, “if it ain't broke, don't fix it”.

for some reason reading this thread is irking me. some ppl have had positive results from it-some negative. but now some of the ones who have had positive results, are all :o :o should i stop using it???? just because some other people have said "it didnt work for me". everyones skin is different, if you're getting good results from it, then i dont see a reason to stop.

i've always liked st ives apricot scrub, always used it..then i tried the medicated one and its WONDERFUL. i use it every other day, usually in the shower, and my skin is so smooth, no zits whatsoever, and my pores are nice and small. one thing no ones mentioned yet is how hard you scrub your face with it-how much pressure you use. obviously if you use a lot of pressure its going to be more abrasive..whereas if you put it on your skin and verrrry lightly rub it, the results are going to be much gentler. i swear by it tho, it's done wonders for my skin :)

i used it..it's not that bad...just don't use it everyday...once a week and you'll be fine and then just use a regular cleanser everyday...i did however find it to be a good body expoliator.......just be careful with it.....

Ah, I love it! My nose is nice and smooth...
