St. John signs Angelina Jolie

St.John is american right ? I've wondered for quiet some time whats the deal with this brand..I look at their ads..and think to myself "Whats wrong with this picture..? Who would wear this stuff?" I have no idea where to place this..is it equal to Escada in the states ? How high up on the fashion ladder is this stuff?

It is very Escada. It's not high fashion, but by no means do you see it on a pauper:ninja: . It's quite something a desperate houswife would wear. If there is a fashion hierarchy in the states, it would go like this...

K-Mart
Wal-Mart
Target
'Mall' Stores (Hollister, Abercrombie)
Upper 'Mall' Stores (Gap, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic)
Saks/Nieman/Bergdorf brands (Escada/St.John)
RTW Designers
Coture (I don't know many Americans who have heard of coture, seriously!)

To give you an idea of the fashion conversations I am likely to have in real life, in the last one, the person I was talking to mentioned Ann Taylor as a "high-end" brand :P

St John is good quality stuff, but I associate it with Ann Landers, who wore nothing else. I didn't find it all that flattering on her either ... she had a tummy and not surprisingly, the knits didn't hide it.

I peeked at one of the Gisele ads, and it (the St John suit) looks surprisingly good. The thing is, it's got designer price tags, but not true designer appeal. I guess they're counting on Angelina to change all that ... interesting they're viewing this as a promotional rather than design issue ...

i'm interested to see how angelina is going to represent the brand...my mom and i like st john but we're always wondering, where do you wear the clothes? she likes the suits but they seem a bit uptown for her job...

the knits are really nice!

I would agree with your ranking, but with one exception: K-Mart higher than Wal-Mart???

Well, I don't like celebrities doing models' jobs, but I feel I have ranted about it enough for this day.

These commercials just seem a bit bland to me...I would have expected something different, since Angelina Jolie used to have such atypical looks and she is an ex-model. She doesn't look very photogenical in these.

Im glad they finally got rid of that blonde woman who was always surronded by men.

It's definitely a different marketing approach. But I dont know how I feel about Angelina being their new "face"

They're very sexy ads, actually ... and how nice that they've gotten rid of the boy toys. Now I want to see what they're doing to improve the merchandise ...

i think she looks beautiful.

Me, too. Who WAS that woman in their ads? It just never looked right, to me.

Angelina looks good in these ads... there are a few that I have ripped out... like the one where she is standing, looking at her laptop... it's just a classic look, the whole ad... professional..sophisticated.

It was Marie Grey, daughter of the family that used to own the company, and company exec. (Also former model??)

I remember that ad ... frankly, though, I didn't think any real executive would wear anything even close to that revealing. You better own the company, and I wouldn't do it even then :innocent:
