Starbucks coffee??

I hate going in places like starbucks cos of all the complicated, pretentious names of stuff.
When I do go in there i buy normal tea and drink it throat burningly fast cos i hate lugging it around.

. But... my boyfriend works there and gets a massive discount or gets our drinks for free so I'm fine with drinking my coffe ala Starbucks.

My boyfriend worked at a Starbucks for 4 years or so and I probably had a latte or some other drink everyday. When he left there we both lost alot of weight.

Though I don't have much good stuff to say about their coffee....
Starbucks does treat their employees very well.

purechris, you're absolutely right! and the future's currently trading at 106.75 cents per pounds B)

Nice fantasy you're having... I guess you don't see many poor people?

No offense, but you are really not aware of how many people live.

Okay, so someone from a poverty-stricken nation cannot buy Starbucks. I get that. But what about a poor person in America? 1.90$ for a hot chocolate at Starbucks is in no way outside their means.

In addition, I've seen a couple starbucks in less-than-trendy neighborhoods entertaining a large market.

I was objecting to this statement:

...I mean any poor person can buy a coffee without thinking twice.

We could have a discussion about a person who has $1.90 and whether they spend it on hot chocolate at Starbucks, or a Big Mac, or chips and soda, or tofu and raw vegetables, and we could branch into discussions about epidemic obesity in the US and early onset diabetes, and whether or not the "poor" person in question thinks twice or even once about any of it, but all of these topics are pretty far off-topic and/or forbidden by tFS guidelines, and I don't care to argue the point. :flower: I agree that most people in the US can scrape up $1.90 if they want to, and if they want to spend it at Starbucks that is their right.

That's quite the bold statement. Surely it would depend on the different managers in different cities. I worked there for a while and I was treated very well and respectfully. I love their coffee, and I guess I do rather like it as an 'accessory' of sorts - but then again I've loved seeing people walking with coffee, Starbucks or not, for a long time. There's something appealing to me about it; a hot beverage is always quite comforting, and so I guess if I see someone walking with one I feel that they're enjoying it... It's not so much about being 'trendy' to me...

Taking a broader view though, haven't Starbucks been accused of strike breaking and anti-union action (etc)?

This is too hilarious.

I agree that there are now a lot of Olsen-wannabees who have adopted a Starbucks cup as an accessory. But this is perhaps putting the cart before the horse, as there were a lot of people walking around with Starbucks cups before the Olsens entered high school.

For that matter, there is a Coffee Underground ;) that has been walking around carrying cups of hot coffee (without spilling it, usually) for many years before Starbucks existed. Some of us even skateboarded to our college classes carrying our coffee (usually without spilling.)

Uphill in both directions. In the snow.

;)

Actually, Grey Dog's Coffee is the coffe of choice for one of them (the one that went to NYU). I saw here there... more than once... :p

Agreed about the thread, it's hilarious.

just so you know...
When you spend $3.60 for a latte or cappuccino at your favorite cafe do you realize that less than one cent of that goes to the coffee farmer?

...you should also look into a documentary entitled "black coffee"

LOL :woot: , right isnt that funny you are looking on this fashion site and probably looking at all the nice things you want to buy.... Isnt that funny... that all the items (designer wear) that you see here is made by very poor people too. Do you think they get anything close to the retail price. Please do not preach... buying a good tasting cup of coffee isnt all that bad.

We live in an industrial capitalist world, if you are going to think that way u might as well never consume or buy anything!

I hate it when people try to sound all moral ... when is the last time you even donated money to any of these poor people. And, if you would have to lose out on all the nice things that you like, would you even care so much about what you are preaching?

Years of practice! :)

I definitely walk faster when I am *not* carrying coffee, if that helps...

Well huh, I find that funny that many of you mention "real coffe" i.e. expresso as the chic alternative to starbucks coffee...
I'm French, I live in Paris, hate bitter coffee that I find highly boring, not mentionning the taste, and I don't really appreciate those cafés where you're sitting on an uncomfortable chair, wait for ages to have the waiter take your order and have him giving you bad looks if you stay too long after you've finished your drink. So to me, the growing number of Starbucks that are opening in Paris are a more than welcome alternative. It's just a nice, comfortable place where I can read a book drinking a delicious Chai Tea Latte...
But I guess that if you live in America, expressos and cafés are "different and original" compared to Starbucks while it would be the opposite in Europe (I have a friend who's Canadian : he can't stand starbucks and he's fascinated by our cafés, blah).
Now concerning walking on the street with my drink, then I only do it when I could not find a place to sit and I try to avoid that because I feel stupid, like some fake business woman who'd be pretending to be in an american film...

... I always need my coffee in the morning or when I'm drawing...:p
