Starbucks coffee??

LOL :woot: , right isnt that funny you are looking on this fashion site and probably looking at all the nice things you want to buy.... Isnt that funny... that all the items (designer wear) that you see here is made by very poor people too. Do you think they get anything close to the retail price. Please do not preach... buying a good tasting cup of coffee isnt all that bad.

We live in an industrial capitalist world, if you are going to think that way u might as well never consume or buy anything!

I hate it when people try to sound all moral ... when is the last time you even donated money to any of these poor people. And, if you would have to lose out on all the nice things that you like, would you even care so much about what you are preaching?

Geez ... may I refer you to our fair trade thread? It is never inappropriate to consider the moral implications of any of our actions, great or small ... and coffee is huge in terms of its impact on the environment and the lives of many many people in the third world.

I also have no trouble imagining someone without $2 to spare ...

What *is* it with all the insensitive posts today ...

While I like Starbucks, I have to say I loooove Caribou. It's my happy place

Where are you from? They are an upper-midwest chain only i thought? Im originally from Minnesota...and have grown to love Caribou too! Though, Starbucks is still better to me

Im just saying that complaining about someone spending two dollars is pretty dumb when most people on these forums are speaking about buying 700 shoes or 1200 bags! Plus, do you know who makes all our clothes. Little children! Or idolizing all these young celebs and their style, life(done in the celeb style section) like paris hilton, lindsay lohan, etc that consume their days spending and spending and not even attempting to use their name for a greater good. Yeah, they go to a charity once a year and wear a 2000$ dress! I just do not think this is the place to criticize people for spending money on the things they enjoy - the purpose of this forum.

Because one thing is worse another cannot be bad? Following that logic you couldn't say 'ouch' if someone poked you in the eye because somewhere else in the world someone is being murdered...

Furthermore, the coffee trade adds up to a lot of money, a lot more money than fashion.

Ooh... that are some harsh generalizations you are making... "do you know who makes all our clothes. Little children..."... I think the fashion industry would like some facts if they were confronted with such accusation, not that I'm that naive that to think that it doesn't happens... Also why do think all the South-Eropean countries, who has been the main producers of clothing in europe, suddenly got out of there chairs, when the asian "garment" manufactures moved in on the EU market?... are they also using childrens? and are all Asia only using children?... is the hole fashion industry build on child labour?.. ofcourse you have a good point, but first of all I don't think the comment about the coffee was about complaining, more about informing... and wouldn't it be nice if we, in every aspect, both smaller or bigger, took moral considerations in as consumers, as Fashionista-ta propose in her post?

Cleveland. Lovely, miserable, Cleveland. :D

I just wanted to add something to the converstation about "everyone" having $2 at their disposal to drop into starbucks. This is generally true for the majority of the population of course. I mean I'm a pretty poor college student in NY and I still manage to spring pretty regularly for my Venti latte.

But, I was in a starbucks yesterday night and this older guy comes in, probably 60's. He wasn't dressed so that you'd look at him and think "oh, he's homeless" He walks in, looks in the little round trash recepticle that starbucks has built into their counters and then keeps walking back to the bathroom, I was sitting at a table by myself nearby, that's the only reason that I noticed. It did seem like kind of strange behavior though. Well, the guy was in the bathroom for about 30 sec. comes back out and goes to the trash area again. He looks around really fast and then grabs an empty cup out of the garbage and fills it with some milk that they reserve for coffees. He then went over to the little counter area and proceeded to pretend that he was sitting there and enjoying a coffee like everyone else. I don't typically take notice of homeless people or beggars on the street, but this just broke my heart for some reason. So on my way out I bought a coffee and gave it to him. He was really grateful.

you should see rush hour in NYC... starbucks in one hand, WSJ, iPod, blackberry or Bluetooth earpiece and magazine in another.

at (a.m.) meetings, i have starbucks (quad, skim or soy cap) handy ^_^

it's almost like how i look in the morning. starbucks (it's the wake up drug to me), ipod, WSJ, and my handbag. I really hate how they don't put a lid to secure the little opening on the coffee cap. I spilled myself for a 1000 times and I wish they did have the cap like dunkin donuts do. Unfortunately dunkin donus coffee is undrinkable :yuk:

btw, if I have more time in the morning, I'd rather cook coffee at home and enjoy it like how I do it in the weekend. Believe it or not, our daily coffee routine costs us a fortune in a year......360*$2=$720/yr for regular coffee. 360*$3=$1,080/yr for a tall latte......

In Germany no one does things like this BUT in my school i everytime run around with our own coffee. Does this also count? ^^

Actually, plenty of people do that in Germany.

Personally I like Starbucks, it's so convenient and I've become addicted to their caramel macchiato and chai tea latte.

(A real italian latte macchiato is great too though)

I'm quite pleased that you did that. I myself had a similar experience at the mall. I sat down to eat at the food court, and I noticed this homeless man going from table to table checking out for left overs, and then sat down to eat someones left over KFC. I felt terrible so I bought him dinner.

I myself do alot of community service for local churches and food banks. I enjoy it alot. It's a time where I can contribute back to the community. I feel that as a society we must all come together and help our fellow human kind, whether it be providing food, money, or shelter, we as humans are obligated to reach out to others. Atleast that is how I feel.

Your post was refreshing considering many people don't acknowledge the unfortunate, and for you to do what you did is quite honorable. I personaly thank you for doing that service.

I just don't understand the mentality of today's society. This is the exact reason why I cannot stand sitting at Starbucks and hearing those posers at the next table pretending to be having an intellectual conversation. Drinking a latte has become a big theatrical play. People don't drink out of the enjoyment of the bevarage rather as a social stance to project maturity and a college/university student like appearance.

Ah this subject is quite amusing. On certain ocassions I have even over heard customers put on a fake accent to order a drink. Like honestly can't you just say the name of the drink in your own tone of voice rather than some english twit ordering a latte. Another issue that bothers me on this whole discussion is the way people carry their cups. If you take a closer look it is even funnier. Especially the little tennie girls who on a warm day hold the cup in a cuddle to project they are cold, like for God sakes shove the drink down your throat this isn't some movie production you are in.

Haha sorry I come off abit harsh but it's because of people making Starbucks some fashion wh*re house, that I can't even sit down and enjoy a drink on my spare time.

Apparantley everyone now days has become a messy Olsen Twin. Sad.
I can understand your harsh generalizations, since it IS true that the Olsens love Starbucks, as do many celebrities...but who cares? I guess I'll take the risk of being judged based on my coffee of choice. ;) I love iced coffee best, and considering that my ice doesn't really cut it, along with my household coffee maker.. I'm left with Starbucks. It's sort of a morning ritual to me, I guess. I would go as far as saying it's my accessory, but I don't really like enjoying it infront of other people. It's usually me, my car, and my venti iced soy latte. Starbucks also seems to make me feel better than almost any coffee I've tried (sounds strange I know), but I have yet to try more (not many in my area). Sorry for rambling, but it's a subject I'm passionate about..

If you're going to have Starbucks, good, but just enjoy the coffee :).

Yeah, I think people are over reacting a bit about the whole "accessory" aspect of a starbucks cup. If you are carrying it for some sort of acceptance...thats your problem, but know you are being irrational. 99.9999% of people who go to, are carrying, or enjoy starbucks do so because they have a geniune liking for coffee, tea or whatever.

To each their own with each particular chain, or coffee house. Cant we all enjoy what we want and not judge? Or enjoy them all at different times?

My god, its coffee.

i couldn't agree more, stylesnob. this thread started off with an interesting concept. i do agree that coffee has become somewhat of an accesory, but that does not mean that the people drinking it don't enjoy it too. and whatever coffee people enjoy, that's perfectly fine with me. who are we to judge people based on their coffee selection?
