This season we have a new alternative for bikinis. Many designers have been inspired by the 1950’s style of bathing suits, and now, one-piece swimwear is making a comeback this summer.

From bandeau-shaped to great sporty styles, these swimsuits embody old world Hollywood glamour. The flattering fifties swimsuit silhouette and modern touches are a perfect blend of old and new.

<3 Abaeté...

I really like this, I've always wanted to have a 'retro' suit. Now I purchased some fabric a few days ago and I'm just waiting to see how I'll get it made. But it's a gorgeous trend! I love how the one-pieces look so elegant.

i love one pieces. i find (most of) them to be so sexy.

This look has been going on for seasons now, I think...
The DKNY & Margiela suits are cute..

I love the 50's inspired swimsuits Norma Kamali does..

Nostalgic yet modern...

Those Norma Kamali look great^ .. it looks like they're very friendly for the figure

didn't Kate Moss wear something like that last black one?

from the runway my fav are Abaeté and Pucci. I love the deep V-cut on the Pucci

they look so stylish, but that would be hard to get a good tan with that swimwear...

^ Cute!
I love the 4th, 5th, 7th, & 8th suits...
The 4th & 5th suits esp., since they seems as if they would be very forgiving...
Thanks for posting..

cute...VS did one, but the fit wasn't very good. this goes back to when the swimsuit was tailored....and it's taking more for designers to make something that fits...instead of 3 triangles to cover THOSE 3 areas like most seasons...i love this trend!

Agent Provocateur made an amazing one last year , Rachel Bilson wore it for a GQ shoot recently I think.

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced swimsuits like this? The high waisted bikinis seem like they would be so flattering!

Me I prefer the techno spandex in black @ Chanel cruise 2009
a sleek fit ~

I adore 50's style swimsuits and have been wearing them for several years. I always feel so elegant and glamourous at the pool or beach and it's nice not to have to worry about things popping out all the time. Even though 50's style suits cover more skin, I actually feel sexier in them than other styles. Now that they're coming in style, it will be nice to have more options for new ones as they can be difficult to find.

i think i posted just a one-piece bathing suit
rather than 50s style suit

a 50s style..
it's one with the halter neck, no?
and with "short shorts"

i agree it's kind of sexier because it sort of accentuates the curves
like what you call those..girdles.. ^_^ that are elastic and are supposed to firm up the body
rather than a bikini which just cuts the body up

Swedish brand Lindex had some in their stores, they are around 20 euros

the second one is more in style with the pucci one posted, not sure about the fifties vibe

loving these! I must admit I tend to get more of the typical two pieces, but these are worth looking into. I am in love with the first Chloé.

Yeah, we'll admit it We've always been huge fans of Esther Williams' films - On An Island With You; Pagan Love Song; Million Dollar Mermaid; Jupiter's Darling - the swimsuits Esther wore often looked more like abbreviated evening gowns - the one in the photo at right was designed by Helen Rose - but fabulous on Esther, and that look prompted a desperate quest on our part to find a vintage swimsuit that looked even half that good. The day we discovered the Esther Williams Swimsuit line, our search for the perfect suit was over. These swimsuits have the vintage/retro look we love, fashioned in modern fabrics that are so much more comfortable, long-wearing, and figure flattering than vintage swimsuits. If you like the look and body shaping elements of vintage swimsuits, we think you're going to love these styles from Esther Williams Swimwear.
