Swimwear trend : 50's vibe

yeah tanlines wouldn't really bother me either, i hate the sun anyway, i tend to put on spf 548390589032523 and stay out of it anyway.

Seeing this type of swimsuit come back into style is funny, since one-piece swimsuits are the only swimsuits I'll wear - never tried on a two-piece in my life! I have had trouble finding some of the more vintage inspired styles, with the extra bit of fabric at the bottom, so hopefully this will increase my chances of spotting one in stores ("hopefully" being the key word).

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced swimsuits like this? The high waisted bikinis seem like they would be so flattering!

I was wondering this myself, as I've already exhausted all my swimsuit resources - Delia's, Alloy, GoJane, Macy's, Nordstrom - and cannot think of another inexpensive store to check. Anybody have any suggestions?

Never mind my last post - I just purchased this nylon/spandex bandeau swimsuit from Newport News for $29! The straps are detachable and aren't shown in the picture, but I think I'll use them when I wear the swimsuit.

I've been looking for a bathingsuit like this for a couple years now and I'm so glad someone posted the Norma Kamalis because thats exactly what I want. Im so tempted now to get it but the price tag is so hefty for someone who rarely ever goes to the beach/pool!

There was also a fantastic cherry-print two-piece on a vintage clothing site a couple years back that I was madly in love with but it was sold out. They just kept the picture up to tease everyone. ugh.

i LOVE this style
i feel as though its very 50's inspired

ahh i love all of these retro-style swimsuits, but i don't think I could pull one off!

again, didn't realize it was a trend... but i was going for the victoria's secret one!!

for the past two summers i've had OBSESSIONS with the swimwear carmen marc valvo's been putting out...such great cuts and beautiful colors in 50's-inspired styles.
i also bought this swimsuit in, like, march:

but i didn't like the way it fit on me...so i returned it. such a shame, though, it's really unique and cool looking and typically that shade is a great color on me. if anyone's interested, it's now on sale.
i've been tending more towards one-pieces lately, though. here's another vote for lack of concern for tan lines: i, too, am a fan of "spf 548390589032523" and hiding under umbrellas. i don't like the tanned look (nor do i like skin cancer...).

I apply sunscreen like there's no tomorrow, as I also dislike the appearance of tanned skin, but the only downside is the lack of vitamin D your body intakes from wearing too much sunscreen (raising the risk of deficiency).

Still, I love having fair skin and will likely continue slathering on as much sunscreen as possible!

I'm with you on the spf- actually I stay out of the sun as much as possible. I was just diagnosed with Vit D deficiency and started taking pills for it and trying to walk in the sun for about 10 mins a day.

I was actually hesitating buying a black bathingsuit because my pale skin is so stark white in contrast, but I just got one of the beautiful Norma Kamali knock-offs from Esther Williams and I love it. Thank you to saann for mentioning it! It's really flattering!
