Tattoos

for my birthday i just got a small 13 on the side of my middle finger on my right hand. probably the most visible tattoo i have but i can still cover it up for jobs with a ring or a plaster once its healed and its on the side of my finger so if i keep my fingers closed you cant see it:p

I love tattoos.

I always get tattoo to represent something in my life or something I've gone through. Like symbols of my life or what I went through.

does the 13 have a meaning?

well i was actually born on friday the 13th and my birthday this year was on a friday so i got it for myself since the day is actually considered to be lucky for someone whos actually born on it aposed to being unlucky

I've got 2 so far and I still want more (the rest are going to be more hidden though). I've got the Comte de Lautréamont's face on the back of my neck and a 3 on my right hand

hm maybe you will get upset, but i just have to ask you all. I am learning to be a educator. And I am asking myself over and over again if I would find a job with "open"/see-able tattoos. Mine a pretty hidden. Did one of you ever had trouble finding a Job because of your tattoos?

I find it really depends on where you're living! Right now I'm in British Columbia and everyone and their grandma has visible tattoos, it's usually no big deal to get good jobs. But whenever I go to Texas (planning on moving there) even in Austin, I'm stared at like a leper for being heavily tattooed. No one says anything but it's just strange to me, I can feel everyone's eyes following me :P I'd suggest asking around/ doing some research before getting large visible tattoos if you're worried about jobs. Find out what's acceptable and what's not.
Having tons of tattoos has never been an issue for me, but then again, I work in a very creative field.
.....Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that celebrity tend to have really poorly done tattoos? I mean, you've got the money, you should be able to afford a good artist! I saw an article in a magazine about rihanna's tattoos and all I could think of was how terribly they were done :(

thanks for answering. those comments always built me up :p
as you know I live in germany. my nana was really upset about me having a tattoo but when I showed her it was the word "angel" written on me feet she thought it was pretty. but most old people dislike tattoos. my nanas friends once really talked bad stuff about me having tattoos, so did my other nanas fiance.

celebrities have really bad tattoos like ALWAYS!!! most of them look like they saw the picture in a book and got exactly the same one. my tattoo-artist draw my tattoos himself and only for me. but most celebrity tattoos look just the same:yuk:
but on the other hand, bands like rise against, the drummer from blink 182 ect got great tattoos too.
maybe rihanna and so one just have no idea :ninja:

I haven't had a problem but I've not applied for a "real job" yet and I will eventually work in a field where it probably wouldn't be a problem. I also only have one about the size of a quarter on the middle of my foot... That being said, my english teacher in high school kept hers pretty covered. I had another teacher who did not cover hers but it was on the inside of her leg and only really visible if you happened to look down near her ankle. So... I'm guessing the best way to deal with tats in the education setting is to be discreet about them. I'm not sure how they might react to whole sleeves but if yours can be hidden then I'm sure you'll be fine.

I starting to do some research on tattoo removal. Is anyone familiar with techniques that actually work? bleaching/laser. Also, what is the typical cost. My tattoo is approximately 2.5 inch diameter with mostly green and some yellow and white. I've also found some solutions on the internet that claim they fade tattoos.

hey everyone. :)
I am almost 18 and with my BF we were thinking about getting a tattoo. But since it's my first one, I have lots of questions.
I already have an idea of what I want, either the number 5 or the word WILD on my wrist.
How much does a small tattoo like that would cost knowing that I don't want it big and not necessarily bold,?
Does it take a long time, and the question that everyone asks does it hurt?
How much time does it take until you should take off the band-aid off of it? and do you have to disinfect it?
Thanks in advance for replies. :D

As far as cost goes, it really depends on the artist, a well established good artist in a reputable shop will charge more than someone who's just starting out. Whatever you do don't shop around for the cheapest rate!!! Look for an artist who's work you like, works in a clean shop, is good at the style of tattoo you want. this is going to be on your body for the rest of your life, you don't want to skimp on quality just to save a few bucks! Do your research and if you see someone's tattoo you like simply ask where they got it done.
From my experience, most artists/shops charge about $100 per hour. Something small on the wrist should take around that time, maybe less depending on what you want and how detailed it is.
Pain is different from person to person, it also depends on the location of the body. For example, my sister and I both have chest tattoos, I didn't find it that bad, she thought it was near unbearable.
The artist will tell you how to take care of your new tattoo, but things that have worked for me: leaving the bandage on as long as possible(24 hours) then washing it off with very warm water and the gentlest soap i can get my hands on. Never ever pick, or touch your tattoo and never let anyone else touch it while it heals! You don't have to disinfect it but you do have to keep it clean or you risk infection. Stay out of the sun. Put an oil free, scent free lotion on your tattoo a few times a day, whenever it feels dry.

gorgeous pretty much nailed it when it comes to price, pain, and aftercare. Most tattoo artists also recommend using the orange antibacterial soap to wash it for the first two weeks of healing, and for brands of fragance-free lotions, many artists recommend Lubriderm or Curel.

No offense, but speaking personally I think that getting "WILD" tattooed on you would be something you will quickly regret. And if you and your boyfriend were planning on getting matching tattoos, that could be easily regretted too. If I were you I would rather get the number 5 (assuming it has some personal meaning to you). But to each their own :flower:

my tattoos...

these are on my arms...

They're so potentially expensive... I've wanted the same tattoo for several years so I'm not worried about regretting it, but it would end up being a fairly large and expensive image... (This without the text, of course, if anyone is wondering.) Word or phrase tattoos are so nice with the right idea in mind; I wanted to emulate Freja Beha and get one on my neck, but all of my ideas were so cheesy...

thanks angela xx, I've spent many an hour in the old tattoo chair so I feel that I have plenty of knowledge and personal experience that I don't mind sharing. :P I'm a huge advocate of finding the right artist and not the right price, I did that when I had just turned 17 and now I have 2 large ugly dark tattoos under my collar bone. I can hopefully get them covered up, but if not, i'll be saving up for the ol' laser.
Lubriderm is my personal fav for tattoo healing :)

most of my tattoos are DUMB!
i wish i didn't get most of them, but they are there...
and i think it might be a bit weird if i didn't see them everyday.

a moon and a star on the back of my neck
(btw, don't get a tat on your neck unless you're SURE. you're legally crazy if you do, ya know...)
