The 2008 Summer Olympics : Beijing, China

I missed the closing ceremony :(
I dont really care even though the Olympics are over now, because I got so depressed over the javelin competition yesterday where we were so close to have silver and bronze but eneded up losing for this 'one throw wonder'. Finland does always better in Winter Olympics though..

amazing volleyball match against brazil. i had no hope after the first set but they really came through. i'm also excited for the men's waterpolo team who got the silver unexpectedly and beat some powerhouses on the way. kobe and co did what they were supposed to and i loved kobe's stfu finger motion. amazing job by china organizing all of this and hope london will be as exciting.
these sports threads always turn out to be hits on tfs. the euro thread also completely went nuts....

The closing ceremony was incredible! But the London part?? I love Jimmy Page to pieces but why? With Leona Lewis? No, just no.

^
All British, and from London.

I still feel sick thinking about Leona Lewis's performance :yuk:

GAH!!!! y'all talking about the closing ceremony? :o:doh:
*scrolls fast to the last post*

anyhoo....

There are very pretty Rhythmic Gymnasts at the olympics, too bad they don't get bigger coverage unlike their counterpart...

...
I told my mum and she said she heard that in another race (she wasn't sure which one) the guy who was coming first had a drink and knew that the person behind him hadn't got one and it was their last drink of the race, so he took a sip and then passed it back to the other runner! Now that's sportsmanship..

I saw that! It was in the men's 42k marathon... an Ethiopian runner gave his drink to the Kenyan runner. The Kenyan ended up finishing first, but the other guy finished just off the podium. CBC replayed that part just to show the great sportsmanship!

I hate the pop stars singing sequences... I don't even remember who' were on there except a girl wearing Dolce & Gabbana belt and Kelly Chen.

The extinguishing of the torch was less impressive than I thought it would be, but still good. I really like the silver/red dancers part, especially when they turned into a giant BJ Olympics symbol.

China did exceptionally well this time! And 51 golds! :buzz:

Haha I noticed that!

I was so excited when I saw Steve Waugh hehe..
I hope the athlete's had a ball last night! The Beijing clubs would have been chocka block!

Who's the violin girl in the blue hotpants next to Becks on top of the bus?

oh man, what's up with the chinese music stars?? even yao looked a bit confused. although i'm really feeling some of the girls. who are they?

i really disliked the closing ceremony. those pop stars...not to mention london's part...what the hell was that, the girl in the hotpants, the random people with umbrellas...what a mess.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed by the closing ceremonies as well. The only thing I remembered being impressed by was the tower of people and the fireworks.

London's part was pretty good (loving the graffiti-art type video presentation) until they popped out Leona Lewis in some hideous silver dress. Overall, there was a lack of disorganization that did not appeal to me, especially when the opening ceremonies had such a distinct theme.

ETA - And I thought I was the only one who only recognized the dolce belt in the parade of modern pop singers

The Sydney closing ceremony was something brilliant. All other's will have a lot to do in order to better it. It was a big rock concert, which is exactly what the athletes need I think!

haha when i looked at it the dolce & gabbana belt was the first thing that came to my mind too, but i didn't say anything because i thought i'd sound like a fashion obsessed - i was having dinner with my family so it was a bit out of context - then i looked at my sister and she just said "uhum, dolce and gabbana" lol
