The 2008 Summer Olympics : Beijing, China

ahhh!! I'm so happy for Matthew Mitcham and Ken Wallace! 2 more golds for Australia! :D !! I'm happy for the Opals too, Gold will come one day for them! *crosses fingers*
just going back to what tuttyfruity said, The FIFA WC is the biggest sporting event in the world, and for all the absolutely soccer mad nations around the world, the FIFA WC is the ultimate prize and goal. Their biggest dream is probably to lift up that cup; 'eternal glory' and all, (sorry Harry Potter had to come in somewhere :P ) and of course, it wouldn't hurt to collect up a few shiny medals on the way... ^_^ I'm already getting excited for South Africa 2010!
Eargerly anticipating what the Closing Ceremony's going to be like!

during the gold medal soccer game earlier today, the referee gave a 3 minute break for players to rehydrate. i've never seen that in any other soccer game ever....

I read in the newspaper that drink breaks were given because it was so hot. I think it was 42 degrees on the field.

42!! My god.. That would be horrible!

Can't wait for the closing ceremony! :) xx

and don't forget the air quality...
it's so bad over there.
A spanish kayak silver medalist, nearly collapse on the podium after the race.
thank God he finished but it took a toll on him. [yahoo news]

UPDATE: Bob Costas and OIC Rep discussing Chinese Gymnasts age...

seems like this is not going away anytime soon...

But i have to say, Bela Karolyi was the first to openly criticized the "underage" rumors of the 3 chinese gymnasts and he was adimant that they are younger... but one of his reasons why is: they have baby teeth

is that a good enough reason?

i hope brazil wins men's volleyball...

can't wait for world cup either.. hopefully another star on brazil's soccer shirt... but gotta wait 'till '10.. i just found out that brazil will host the 2014 world cup finals..

i remember in '02, when i still used to live in brazil, my teacher let us (students) cut class to watch brazil play..

Just saw Australia win gold for diving, that was pretty amazing to watch, four 10's and the rest 9.5's on his last dive. :flower:

 But honestly, you can't really tell a person's age if they still have baby teeth can you? Some people's teeth grow slower than others.. On one hand I think giving everyone the chance to participate in the Olympics when their coaches (and the participant) think that they're absolutely and seriously ready (not dillusional 'ready' or anything) to compete in such a big event is great, but then, having an age limit is also putting in some boundaries and precautions, and they're also necessary too. 'Fair' playing field I guess, can't have a 10 year old competiting against more experienced athletes and then complaining that they weren't judged fairly. When you're older, you're in the olympics by choice and its your decision really if you want to compete or not, can't complain that you weren't judged equally with the younger athletes if you put yourself in it fully knowing that! Does that hum jumble make sense?!

oh god i'm gonna have a heart attack. brazil can't lose this match.

multitasking here! and NBC dont have the soccer match :(
i'm watching Ping Pong. it's pretty interesting and they move funny.
[China vs ?]

^China vs China! :)

And man, what a gold medal men's volleyball match! :woot: Sorry to the Brazilian fans, but I'm just too happy for team USA, especially after they were struck with such tragedy in the beginning of the games...

so disappointing... i never cry because of sports but i did this time, i was so stressed. i still am. they just couldn't lose this... i'm so sad for gustavo, he won't have another chance to win a match against the US... wow the day giba retires i'm gonna be devastated:shock:
