The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #1

^ Thanks, laika  I know, it was really beautiful, and so under the radar ... not once did anyone recognize the label ;)

As far as lingerie, I buy good stuff, but not "the best I can afford." For bras I really like La Mystere, and for underwear, I quite like some DKNY I bought recently. I am semi-obsessed with finding stuff that doesn't show. I think there is nothing worse than being able to see the texture of a lace bra thru clothes :yuk: Seeing lace bands through tight slacks isn't so great either. Gap Body is pretty good. Victoria's Secret is pretty bad quality, IMO. I like things to last, but things do go wrong.

For instance :D, my puppy ... I have broken her of this habit now, but when I first got her, if she could find a pair of my underwear or a sock, it was the best thing in the world, and she liked nothing better than to run around with them in her mouth & finally deposit them in the living room  Some of them ended up with punctures from those sharp little teeth ... it's at times like that that it's a very good thing not to have paid the earth for them. You've got to be able to open the underwear drawer to weed and not weep ...

whoa!!! so sorry to hear bout your (un)happy sac!!

i am quite top heavy, so i need good bras which actually give support. however, i am actually applying 4-5 pieces per season rule very strictly here. i only have few sets which i handwashed and wear almost daily, but once it doesnt look 'fresh' anymore, i quickly discard it.

How do you feel about underwear? Do you apply the rule of buying quality, long lasting items for lingerie as well? I'm finding it more important than ever to buy quality underwear (esp. bras) that will get me at least through a couple of years. I've been using microfibre undergarments for about five years and they will last for an eternity (plus they're very comfy and won't let elastic marks on my skin).

I like to get nice bras, but go for cheap underwear. My bras are wolford, agent provocateur and la perla but most of my underwear is hello kitty from tj maxx  spanx are great too for tight clingy dresses.

Hi floodette: My favorite bra that I've ever tried is Wacoal's 85122, Elegance Hidden minimizer. It's expensive but it really holds my girls in the up-right and locked position. What makes the difference is that the bra is seamed, as opposed to seamless, and has fully adjustable straps. I've been on a bra purchasing binge over the last year and this is the best one yet. I purchase them online at Bare Necessities. Hope this is helpful.:flower:

I want to by swimwear even though there is ages until I'll get to use it :ninja: I need to be strong and save up for a pair of jeans which I would get much more use of...

I have decided to save for these:
black skinny jeans
a good white half sleeved shirt
red heels
a bright clutch
short black skirt
a black belt
full rimmed black eyeglasses from Chanel

I'm having a wardrobe identity crisis, but I still want all my items from my previous list. The one that I feel I'm missing the most is the fun, dressy skirt.

LaurieAnn, question for you ... I have never worn a minimizer, but I've seen other people wear them and somehow it makes their chests look ... odd. Do you know the effect I mean? I take it this one doesn't do that?

Btw, my favorite La Mystere is the t-shirt bra. It is also very supportive but the front is made such that you're not limited in what you can wear--i.e. the connecting part plunges rather than coming up high.

I have finally (as of a few weeks ago :p) completed my fall list. This is the first time ever, that I have been able to cross off every item on my seasonal to-buy list ^_^.

Personally, I found creating an inspiration folder of outfits/styles I like and what I realistically would wear to be very helpful in accomplishing this goal. Following style blogs were helpful as well in that many bloggers wear affordable clothes that I can find or easily replicate at my local shops.

Hi guys! I need some advice. I realized the other night I don't have a dressy top to wear out when I don't feel like wearing a dress... what do you think about this one? Do you think it is classic enough to be worn for a few years?

I had never tried a minimizer bra either for that exact reason but this one works for me. Again, I think the subtle seaming has something to do with that. The bra does hold me "in" more than I'm used to, but the "up" factor makes up for that with me.

stealthmodelsteph, I love the black blouse. I would certainly wear that for several years into the future.

The Le Mystere t-shirt bra sounds interesting as well. I need something new in black for evening so this one may be the ticket.

Thanks, LaurieAnn.

steph, love the blouse. Ruffles are very now, but by no means in a poncho kind of way ;) Looks like the kind of thing you could wear till it falls to pieces ...

stealth, it looks like a classic dress-up piece. but the part of the blouse that i would tire of first would be the sleeves, i think.

recently, i acquired a plaid coat to satisfy the desires i got for one after watching juno. currently, i'm looking for a wristlet to stash my keys and cards when i go out.

Steph, I love that blouse... I would wear it with dark denim jeans and either hair up in a tight bun with red lips, or loose waves. Very romantic!

(although another man might not ever read this)

I think the american male wardrobe refresh involves:

1 A new shirt or two
2 a pair or two of jeans
3 a sweater or vest
4 pair of sneakers / pair of dress shoes
5 button down shirt

something like that. I feel I have enough coats this year, so I filled the gap with shirts and a sweater and a vest and jeans...I really buy too much. It's not easy for me to buy when I've been drifting into different styles..

bodenusa

Just ordered these half-sleeve cotton cardigans for spring ... I'm seeing them with my Donna Karan ivory skirt & another khaki skirt, my straw/ivory leather bag, and red patent/ivory grosgrain heels & red patent flats ...
