The Acne Thread

The use of benzoyl perxoide has been banned or really limited in a few countires around the world, which really makes me kind nervous. I really, really try to limit the BP I use. It works GREAT,yes, but at what cost? I don't want to age my skin. It's a catch-22 almost.

Retinods help reverse the aging on the skin so I use them for the acne scars and age prevention not to mention the highest PPD sunscreen I can get.

I am trying to only rely on sulfur based products now.

Has anyone tried products by Louis Widmer? I know a couple people that use it and their skin has improved so much within a matter of weeks! For some their spots and blotches have even disappeared entirely. After noticing the results on others I'm currently trying the wash gel and tonic (sans alcohol) myself and have to say it works like a charm. My skin has cleared up considerably within a week of time. (Bear in mind these are not the products aimed at acne that I'm using, just the regular cleansing stuff.) It's really mild to your skin, no nasty effects like dry patches or any like that.. Plus it's relatively cheap for something that actually works (€10-13 per bottle). I hope it's as effective for anyone!

I've never heard of louis Widmer. What are the active ingredients? Where does one buy it?

Not sure about their distribution, it says on their website they have exclusive representatives and partners (specialist outlets, doctors and dermatologists) in 13 countries. -> http://www.louis-widmer.ch/001lwd_0105_en.htm
Here's what I found regarding the ingredients, hope it helps..

I really like the .. olay range so far it hasnt broken me out!
I used the olay total effects moisturiser and cleanser but I only have clogged pores not pimples =( and beleive it or not clogged pores are WORSE... ! AHH

Tricolsan really is not so great.. it broke me out more and its believed to be poisonous.. !! Ok it just hasnt worked for me and its broken my skin out tre's badly =(

Salycilic acid works better for me.

In fact I find using pimple creams make it WORSE! I just like to use a simple cleanser and moisturiser ... pimple creams really...

Yeah, some people don't respond to pimple creams because they tend to dry out your skin which can lead to an overproduction of oil to make up for the dryness.

Does anyone know what sulfur does for acne? because I know the proactive face mask has 6 % sulfur in it....and it sounds pretty strong! Would it be damaging to apply that?

Benzoyl peroxide ages the skin?? Crap! What am I going to now? My only options are between being zitty and getting liney?

^ There are lots of other options to help get rid of acne without prematurely ageing your skin.

- If you have an oily face, you can make sure to buy non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic products (also for your hair as hair touches your face).

- Products with alpha hydroxy acids (e.g. glycolic acid, lactic acid) and/or beta hydroxy acids (e.g. salicylic acid) in them help. Cleaners, toners, wipes, moisturisers and peels.

- Chemical peels at the salon (particularly those with alpha hydroxy acids and/or beta hydroxy acids).

For severe acne:

- Cortisone injections (should only be used if you're really desperate because if it isn't done properly it can severely damage skin).

- Laser treatment.

- Light treatment.

- Radio frequency waves.

- Photodynamic therapy.

Benzoyl Peroxide will only give you lines if you don't moisturise.

The lines are a result of dehydrated and dry skin. As long as you use a decent moisturiser, you'll be fine.

Also, make sure you only use 2.5%. Anything more will fry your skin to a crisp - ouch!

I used to use a 10% benzoyl peroxide cream and it did not do that... Then again, my skin is extremely oily and it only dried out my skin if I had a bad spot along my jawline (even when I did use moisturiser). Everywhere else was fine. It did sting a little, but it did not burn me or make me look like I had eczema all over my face.

I love Sulfur. I get the results that I used to get from BP without the worry of aging my skin. I like the Proactiv mask, I leave it on overnight. It doesn't overdry my skin or anything and I don't have overly oily skin.

the scarring on my face is really bad! i've been exfoliating once a week and i also used mederma till it started making me break out. what else can i do?

Bye Bye Blemish has sulfur as does Adult Acomel, they might be sold at Walmart. If not, any drugstore should have them.

Stasha, have you tried AHAs to even out your skin tone? A lot of people like Alpha Hydrox products.

I tried AHAs, but they don't seem to help, it sucks cuz my skin is nice, except for this. I guess i will have to go to see a dermatologist if nothing helps.
