Tips & Tricks For Covering Up Acne & Acne Scars

Though this isn't the mineral make-up thread, I hate love and hate for it. I've tried everyday minerals, and I like it because it doesn't make me break out. I dislike it simply because it's powder. Liquid is so much better to work with in my opinion. With powder I feel so dull, and it's hard to highlight with it and look natural.

When it comes to covering acne scars with it, I found it surprisingly good. I used the intensive forumula on them, and it covered like concealer.

I hate it cause no matter what brand, no matter how I apply, it looks "weird" on me.

Now, let's return to talkigna bout zits and makeup, shall we?

Oh! Here are some recommended produst from me, the drugstore makeup queen :flower:

Foundation-Revlon Colorstay/colorstay active light, Max Factor Panstik/pancake

Concealer-maybelline coverstick, revlon colorstay/new complexion

Powder-neutrogena/maybelline. Loose from CG is fine, but their pressed stink:sick:

Everyone with acne - acne scars must try this out:

ALMAY SKIN CLEARING CONCEALER. Comes in 3 shades. Contains medecine for acne prone skin, WON'T CLOG pores or make you break out. Don't count on it to clear acne, but do count on it to visibly correct acne / acne scars without messing up your skin.

Covers up PERFECTLY all imperfections as it is a very rich formula that is quite thick, but when blended, smoothes out skin and looks REALLY NATURAL. No need to cover skin with foundation or powder, this does the trick by itself, simply put it on areas you need to.

I swear I put this on, and no one notices I am wearing something. But when I don't, they do notice a difference..... :innocent:Shhhhhh :P

Alrighty Love. Im a guy, so! leme let yah in on a secret. Right now im in love with Nars (lipstick like) concealor, and /or Alisson Raffaele Concealor (all from sephora) afterwards, LIGHTLY dusted with loose powder, cause my face is oily enough to start another war upon....

Omg! And about mineral makeup. It started to be fun...but oily skin *omg* it sucks! The most amazing thing in the entire world to me is Chanel Double Perfection....Most expensive thing in the world.....but i have guys and girls following me around for hours when i have that stuff on....it makes me have an aura of sexyness......

hahaha that is how i am after the holidays when i don't behave and my skin starts looking bad..i'll complain about how awful it looks and people think i'm psycho if they don't know i have tinted moisturizer on..

You also should be armed with multiple foundations with varying coverage. I have a light powder foundation, a medium coverage liquid, a full coverage liquid, and a pancake stick. You never know what coverage you will need. Most days, I just use the powder foundation or the medium liquid. But when a huge break out occurs, a full coverage or pancake coverage is best. You get extra coverge without having to pile it on. But remember, please use concealer on stubborn spots. Nothing is worse than a big ol' bump with foundation caked on it.

the only suggestion i have that's the most important, its for your foundation be it liquid or powder, it HAS to be matte. no textured skin should have a glowy look or anything reflecting. it just shows the scars or bumps even more

yes, that is true, ale. I learned it the hard way :( . All dewy does is make everything seem bumpier. Matte, or even ultra matte for those ridicuously hot summer days here in the south, is best by far.

this is SO true! and it's FRIGHTENING how many people seem not to understand this...i tried bare minerals once at sephora and was not sold on it for the precise reason that it was far too "luminizing" and served to amplify my scarring. IPL has taken care of most of my coloration problems...it's only the little depressions (which are only visible in certain lighting anyway) that bother me now. anyone have makeup suggestions for those??? besides matte, because believe me, i've got that down pat.

i think what i need now is a primer that will not cause me to break out (and...just about everything does so...if anyone with similarly sensitive skin has a suggestion, i'd appreciate it)

Uhm, I havent yet found the best primer out there, right now i use MAC's Fix+ spray before and after my powder foundation to set it there, and its worked quite nice, although i hate that after a bit my face will look odd cause of my skin's oils wanting to breathe through my skin  cause that sh*t will block it all and seal it

What brand powder foundatioon do you use? MAC, I presume?

My experience:

Medicated foundation
I favour Almay's formula. It is liquid, medium coverage, a little dry, but good to layer under a sheer powder foundation. The Saliyic (huge sp.) acid really works for me.

Powder Foundation
Strange enough, not a favorite of mine. Those with full coverages are cakey and unnatural looking, natural looking ones are too sheer to cover. (I know the differences between press powder and compact foundation)

No mineral experiences

Concealer
Green looks awkward, an odd spot on the face, I can never blend it into my red spot, sorry.
The best concealer on earth has to be Kevin Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer. It is damn FULL, it covers the acne perfectly. Yet it looks natural, plus because of it's consistency, a 15ml jar lasts forever! You can pass it down to your son/daughters.
Medicated concealers are great as well, on good skin days, I layer them under sheer powder foundation, and viola!

My personal favrites.
Cover FX http://www.coverfx.com/
I am going to talk about CoverFX and Natural FX
CoverFX is a compact cream foundation, very very very full, a little less than Kevin Aucoin SSE. I use it as concealer as well. I bought is in a darker shade for summer days with tan.
Natural FX: Holy Grail, it is full, yet natural looking. It looks like another layer of real skin from far (5 inches away), but within 4 inches, it looks very very heavy. I use it during special occations. Another reason why not everydya is because of its price.
There is a thread here on tFS too, just search.
I am going to try their new mineral FX.
Their blushes are pretty too, the shades matches skintones like a dream, the textures are blendable with slight shimmer.
Tools: I have their foundation brush, very decent.
Powder FX are sheer, but natural looking
Setting FX are awesome too, they are transparent with iridescents, my Holy Grail, just not the price.
Their prices are high tho.

drug store:
Revlon Color Stay with Softlex (in tubes)
I like this one a lot, natural tan matches my summer skintone perfectly. The finishes on the skin are unnoticabe.
Maybeline age rewind
Yes, you heard it right, an anti aging foundation. Because it is dedicated to mature skin, ergo it does not cake and it has that perfect skin finish to it. Medium coverage, luckily no break outs, effortable, and Medium1 is golden based, matches my olive skintone perfectly. Received many complimets as well.

^I love Revlon. I will always use colorstay even when I can afford department store cosmetics someday. Colorstay is my HG of liquid foundation when I need that perfect-liquid-soft coverage. Maybelline powder foundation is good too, but not that special.

ive heard rosehip oil is amazing....
also saw it posted somewhere in this thread...

i bought some today...

but does anyone else find the smell unbearable ?
its horrible.....:ninja:

oh it does....and TERRIBLY
i'm thinking of mixing it w/ a few drops of lavendar or eucalyptus or something...
just to mask the stench !
