And about foundation making your skin worse... I was told by a beauty consultant for Mary Kay that wearing my foundation will actually help protect and heal my skin. I didn't buy this at first, but I've been using the Mary Kay foundation almost every day and I find if I go a couple days without the foundation, my skin gets worse!

very interesting! do you use this one: http://www.marykay.com/color/foundations/mineralpowderfoundation/default.aspx
it's surprisingly cheap, isn't it?

I want my red marks to fade away. What do I do?
Mind you, I don't shop anything from the internet and I live in the middle of nowhere.
The best thing to do is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize and every now and then massage your face with Vitamin E.
Don't use anything harsh and give your skin time to heal, it'll probably take a few months.

Well the foundation I bought definitely does not help my skin! I think it breaks it out more! It's supposed to be non-comedogenic and derm tested but I find that hard to believe when it made my face completely explode and wreck all the hard work I've been doing to become blemish free all within a few days! I'm so frustrated. I finally found a shade light enough for my skin and it makes me break-out like a mo-fo! :furious: I'm going to try and return it but I bet I'll have to fight- I bought it from a department store and I don't think they return used products. I'm going to try and pass it off as un-used first. I guess that 1 day to test out the foundation after they gave me a make-over was not enough to judge if my skin was going to reject it. Grrr... Does anyone recommend a good drug-store mineral makeup in light shades? The last d.s. mineral makeup I got was not light (as in colour) enough and made me look orange and blotchy. :yuk:

I read that vitamin E applied topically is not necessarily very good for your skin..

Any suggestions on moisturizers?
Atm i've got:
Neutrogena Visibly Clear Oil-Free Moist.
Korres Wild Rose 24h Moist. & Brightening Cream

here you go, helena!

this is my morning/day routine:
- i start off with cleansing my face with n.v. perricone m.d. alpha lipoic acid nutritive cleanser using my clarisonic skin care brush. i don't know if it's the cleanser itself or the fact that the brush helps a lot, but these two things have been god sent! i've been using them together for two weeks now although i have always had very healthy skin, (i guess it's in my gene pool!) my skin has never felt or looked so smooth and radiant. really. the brush is amazing and the cleanser is great, great, great, too! and it smells nice and fresh. :flower:

- afterwards, on days when i feel like i need a little extra cleanse, i use the dr. hauschka cleansing cream. it's an exfoliant, too, so if you have super sensative skin, it's probably not a good idea to use this after having cleansed your skin already! but it is super gentle and really stimulates my skin. it smells a little funky and takes some getting used to, though!

- then i dry my face, always pat and not rub, and i apply dr. hauschka clarifying toner. it's really refreshing and it's not oily or greasy at all, nor it is lemony or anything like that. i used to use a chanel toner that stung on my face sometimes and felt super greasy. it came in a clear bottle and it was pink with a black cap, that's all i remember! but this one is just the opposite. it's super gentle, refreshing, and not greasy. :)

- once i pat my face to make sure the toner seeps into my pores or whatever, i use the dr. hauschka normalizing day oil. i just began using this so it's a new step for me, but thus far? i've had awesome results in just a few days. i can really see the difference! i apply a tiny bit of this all over my face and allow it to dry.

- then i apply my moisturizer. i use the dr. hauschka rose day cream light. it's really great and the combination of this and the normalizing day oil leaves my skin feeling silky soft without looking or feeling oily at all! it just feels super smooth and the cream smells lovely, too.

- lastly, i apply some caudalie lip conditioner on my lips. :D

my night routine: at night, i just cleanse with my clarisonic skin care brush and then mix some rose day cream light with some aveda balancing infusion and apply it on together!

wow how much time do you spend in the bathroom in the morning? you must have to get up freakishly early
I don't apply anything but moisturizer and hylexin in the morning. the cleansing is in the evening for me

^ all of that takes twenty minutes, tops! and i only do the cleansing in the shower.

That sounds great :D Where did you bought the clarisonic skin care brush? It looks fun :D

I have a little question; Why is it my skin always looks super good in summer but break out in winters and red marks is just much more visible in winters? In the summertime all scars/red marks are almost gone. It's weird, anyone who have the same problem??
I'm really hoping the weather is about to chance! :flower:

^ do you get a lot of sun in the summer? the sun is a temporary fix for skin problems, although in the long run it is damaging for the skin, but catching a tan many times covers up those troublesome spots.

and i got it at sephora! i love it. it's expensive, but a great investment, i think! :flower:

I found that too! I went backpacking in Europe a couple of summers ago and my skin completely cleared up! I didn't get much sun, but I did get more than I usually do.

Maybe it's just Europe- I should convince my boyfriend to move us there for the sake of my skin! :p:D

The exact same thing happens to me. The reason this happens (to me anyway) is because my skin gets dry in the winter and being dry can make people breakout. In the summer when there is more sun (more sun=increased oil production) and there is more humidity your skin is much more hydrated thus leading to fewer breakouts. As long as I stay well hydrated/moisturized in the winter my skin stays pretty clear.

It is a myth that sun exposure can clear acne. Because sunlight increases oil production it can actually make some acne worse. However, if you're breaking out because you're dry, increased sun exposure during summer months will increase oil, keep your skin from over-drying, and therefore clear your skin.

In the end it all comes down to keeping your skin well moisturized. If you stay moisturized all year you can avoid the imbalances that cause acne. And make sure to wear plenty of SPF all year ;)

Then your breakouts probably aren't caused by dry skin. You probably need to decrease oil production. One way is to limit sun exposure in the summer months :flower:
