The Acne Thread

ive always been drinking water a lot since a kid but anyways just a word of caution, don't try to drink like 2 litres of water in one go. try and drink just a bit with regular intervals. like maybe a glass every hour. or a few sips from your water bottle every 15 minutes. if you drink too much at one go, you can die from water poisoning.

I use Equate's Medicated Acne Gel as a spot treatment for quick relief of pimples. It dries them up really fast, almost overnight. You're supposed to put it on 1-3 times a day, but I have school so I can only do it before bed at night, because I don't want to be dried out at school.

When I bought it, it was the last box in Wal-Mart, so I figured it must be good. And I was right!

I was so close to finally giving in and just seeing a derm about my acne and irritated skin BUT I just started using "Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle cream" (it has retinol, multi-vitamins and SPF 15) about 2 weeks ago and I have to say I'm pretty amazed at how great my skin looks. I'm only in my early 20s so I don't have wrinkles to address but bought it more for the retinol.

I never used moisturizers regularly before for fear that they woudl wreak havoc on my already oily complexion but this product isn't greasy at all and it really evened out my skin tone and texture as well. My redness, and cystic acne along my jawline have both cleared up significantly. I've had a few small superficial flare ups here and there but overall I'm sooooo happy I finally found something cheap ($10 at walmart) that actually does what it claims.

I definately would have read 'anti-wrinkle cream' and probably passed it over not thinking that it would work for acne. However, there are a lot of reviews online about how great it was so I'm happy that I gave it a try.

thats weird. i just bought that too based on makeupalley reviews. my skins a mess right now so im sticking to my go to products first so ill let you know how i feel about this product.

Guys you have to try NEOSTRATA SMOOTHING LOTION. the glycolic acid does amazing things on your skin!

^Initially (like the first 4-5 days) my skin did seem more broken out then usual (like small superficial clogged pores) but I expected this based on the reviews so I decided to stick it out. I only used it at night every other night because I tend to get too oily during the day to wear a cream. I also exfoliate every now and again so I don't get too much product buildup on my face. I hope it works out for you! I'm really pleased with it, my skin hasn't been this clear and even for a very long time.

guys how do you get rid(minimize) pores?
for me, excess oil is what causes enlarged pores. from there there are a million possible solutions, but I wonder if it is not the root of your problem as well? jojoba oil and and an AHA treatment keep my skin's texture even and balanced.

The zineryt is working again and I have my hospital appointment on wednesday finally to have the lumps in my throat/neck/chin looked at. Now to get rid of the blackheads...

The only thing I've found that has worked for me is retin-a. I use a tube called Aberela, and it has done wonders for me, even though I still do get flakey from time to time. The only thing I need next to it is a good, affordable moisturizer. For me, Nivea aquasensation has worked very well! I don't really believe in buying expensive moisturizer, they pretty much do the same thing.
I do spend on decent cleansing products though, so I'm sure to have something which doesn't irritate my skin and make me break out.

My doctor also told me that the acne products from Avene are one of the best, and fairly cheap ones, on the marked!

^ An actual peel or like a cream?

I'm buying this glycolic acid toner: http://tinyurl.com/yghvppl

The only ingredients are water, glycolic acid, and ammonium hydroxide (ph balancer), which I think is really great. It was extremely hard to find but luckily I just found a stockist in my area.

I'll let everyone know how it works once I get it!

a cream, i've never been keen on toners.
so yeah! a cream with a fair amount of glycolic acid in, just to keep on top of my skin :)

^ Oh, my mention of the toner was unrelated to your Q, I was just putting that out there :flower:

Anyways, try Alpha Hydrox. Right now I use their Enhanced Lotion, which has 10% AHA, but they have a ton of different formulations, including a cream.

Which acid would you say is best for spots then? Glycolic, salicylic or lactic? I found this company Bravura and they have all 3.

i have to say glycolic since i use one from neostrata and have been my miracle product. salicylic is weaker and lactic i dont think ive tried. it also depends on how its put in the product.

i do use salicylic products but i dont get the same results from all of them.

i dont know about oily skin but i was looking for a moisturizer with a high spf and found in makeupalley.com that biore dual moisturizer spf 30 was getting great reviews so i bought it.

again my skin is still recovering so im not trying anything new on my face.

I want to try Ole Henricksen Sunlight Creme in Chamomile. SPF 30. Maybe look into that? :) It's made for oily/combination skin, and got good reviews at Makeupalley.

Glycolic for spots.

As far as sunscreen, I think it's definately a "your mileage may vary" thing. I STILL have not found one that I'm completely satisfied with, though I'm semi-happy with Fenix or SolBar. :flower:

Thanks for the acid help. The sunscreen I use is by piz buin and I find it to be very good and non greasy.
