The Acne Thread

^^Wow, thank you Anna so much for your help/response. I am definately going to make a list next time with all of my concerns because i found myself sidetracked and at a loss when i went to the Dermatologist. Im also going to check out my insurance's website and see what they have to offer. again, thank you

started the big as* treatment on friday aka curacne aka for u guys in the us accutane or roaccutane
Im at 30 mg a day next month Ill be at 40 maybe
all the bombs are coming out now wich is a good thing skin is gettin all dry
regular stuff when ure under this treatment
Im on a roll for 5 or 6 months

i'm using Vichy Normaderm... but i'm not so happy with it. I'm thinking about switching to La Roche Posay Effaclar or maybe Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions!?! what do you guys think is the best of this products?? or maybe another brand?? GOSH... i hate my skin right now :(

I used la roche posay just over 1 year ago and had no problems with it,but I was on antibiotics for my skin at the same time I think. That said I really like the brand :flower: Clinique didn't do anything for me.

For normal acne see a dermatologist get a prescription of 2 creams
effederm(vitamin a acid)
and cutacnyl 5%(benzoyl peroxid)(if your acne is stronger try 10% or 2.5 if just regular acne)
swith the 2 creams at night and rehydrate the 3rd night with epitheliale from aderma
I would also recommend to wash foundation brushes everyday if youre using them
If you don't like to bother with creams I HIGHLY recommend panoxyl soap bar from stiefel (its webderm now)they have 3 different strenght of benzoyl peroxid 5% 10% and 2.5%
Always buy the lowest strenght first then youre the only one to know what works best for you
These products are not expensive and this is the sh*t right here if you have normal acne it will kill all the bad germs in no times !
never ever use those product under roaccutane treatment

Does anyone have any recommendations about what to do about back acne? I am at a loss, I just dont know what to do. I have absolutely no spots on my face but on my back I have it moderately. Summer is fast approaching and I feel like I should start a regime already but I dont know where to begin. Help appreciated!

I like the Effaclar :flower:
I alternate it with MB's Glycolic Foaming Wash

I think you should see a dermatologist about this. Its usually because of hormones or body heattoo, so maybe it will get worse during the summer.
DO use prickly heat powder. It has a cooling effect and itl help with the prevention, but medication-wise you must must get a consult.

I always had pretty much clear skin but since I started on collage and moved away my face just got worse and worse. My dermatologist said it is because of stress, moving to different climate...
I'm on therapy for few months now and the newest product that I've got is Aknefug Oxid Wash with some extra creams, gels and tonics and I'm feeling my skin is better.Of course it always had ups and downs but I hope I will have my clear skin back again.
I'm just scared of acne scars...still don't have them but there is possibility to get them.Is it possible to totally get rid of them?

I have a few and I was looking into it.There is a laser resurfacing procedure you can do. I was looking at some youtube video on it. I don't think it's cheap though.

i dont have any acne scars. maybe i'm just lucky. are they really that common?

I have acne scars and Ill be gettin rid of them after the treatment with laser hope it works
Im quite sure you get scars only wth deep acne(cyst & micro cyst )

ive only had two zits that were cystic-like twice in my life. both of them healed fine and quickly.

the last time i got one, i panicked. i thought i was going to get a boil! luckily it dissapated in two days.

Kenysha75, good luck with the accutane. hope your skin doesnt dry out too much. hopefully it will kill them all once and for all...

I have had fairly substantial acne scarring over the years, mainly on my chin. They have mostly faded over time however, and for me they're nothing that make up won't cover. I remember clinique once did a product that claimed to reduce/remove them but it was absoluetly useless.

I'm off to my Doctor again in 2 hours to try and get something sorted for my face again as out of nowhere I have had a really painful breakout for about 10 days now,not fun.

Just back from the Doctor. I got put back on zineryt topical solution for the 3rd time even though I wanted to try something different, but also the birth control pill microgynon which the doctor thinks will have a good effect on my skin. But failing this I am going to be referred to a derm in 3 months, yay!

Ive seen a lot of girls on forums getting birth control pills prescription for their acne and it helps them a lot
It is probably better to prescribe antibiotics first and then roaccutane if nothins workin, but anyway I know a lot of doctors prescribe the bcp right away

How are you finding your treatment so far Kenysha?

I'll start on my bcp in 3 weeks time, but I'm starting the zineryt tonight. My self esteem has been all over the place recently thanks to the state of my skin. Last week I purchased a clinique oil control cleansing mask which, even though I'm not a hug fan of clinique,I quite like so far.

I really like the treatment so far its been 3 weeks now 30mg/day and all the bad germs were comin out for the first two weeks
My dm will probably raise it to 40mg/day next month I dont know yet
I dont have that much dryness and I can actually see thats its clearin up so fast Im putting all my faith in this treatment !
Ill be on roaccutane for 5 to 6 months
I hope the bcp will work out for you

Heres what you should do first
This is what Ive done anyway see a specialist cause the dm cant see that anyway
You need to see an hormones specialist sorry dont know the name in english for "endocrinologue"
And you need to get your male and female hormone dose results
To see if they are not too high
Its called sdha test in french anyway Ive done it plenty times
You really need to see if your sdha level is not too high

Your sdhea level should be between
20-400 ug/dL (for women before menaupose)
10-150 ug/dL (for women post menaupose)

50-700 ug/dL (men 20 to 70 years old)
10-250 ug/dL(men after 70)
