The Acne Thread

Yeah, for me it was wheat products and dairy.I did that elimination diet and noticed a huge difference.

Hm, I came and read about the Spearmint tea thing. I was wondering, for the prevention of acne, would it be good?
I think I have peppermint tea in the pantry. Will it work?

hmm dont know serenade but I just brought the skin doctors zxit zapper and tis really good!! My pimples are moderate but it's quite good. Its costly though.. 10 ml for 21 dollars -_-'

SOMEBODY PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I have been studying this site for days and seem drawn to its claim as impossible as its claim sounds. Has anyone heard anything on it or know of it??
Here's the site address, http://www.acnefreein3days.com/ please check it out and let me know.
Feel free to email me at [email protected] too because I'm desperate for knowledge.

Since spearmint tea makes androgen (the hormone that causes acne) inactive, it should work to prevent it.

Peppermint tea will not work because it is not the same plant and does not have the same qualities.

Looking through an Avon catalogue, I noticed they carry a product that will apparently get rid of the red/brown blemishes left from battles with acne.... I'm going to give it a try. Has anyone here used it and does it work????

I have recently been trying a natural remedy for acne. I read of a study done on hirsute women to lower their androgen levels (which is what causes excess hair, oily skin and acne). It appeared to work for them, so I am trying it myself: taking one cup of spearmint tea a day and two cups a day during the follicular period of my cycle (it apparently also affects the amount of follicle-stimulating hormone so I am not sure whether to try two cups every day). However, I was only able to find a mixed spearmint, peppermint, green tea and stevia tea, so a pure spearmint one might be more effective.

I don't know how else to measure its effect other than counting all the glaringly obvious spots on my face, so that is what I did. In the beginning I had 22. It steadily lowered to only 8 or 9 very small spots when I was taking one cup a day. I took a two-day break when I went to visit family and the number of spots almost doubled in that short amount of time! By that day it was time to start taking it twice a day and in two days I am back down to 8/9 and they are even less obvious than before, so hopefully I will eventually be completely clear. My oiliness has also decreased so that I don't have to wipe my face as often during the day. I have not had skin this clear or oil-free in nearly 10 years! I am definitely going to order pure spearmint tea when this one runs out.

Keep in mind I am 21, so I am not supposed to have so much acne any more and I am thinking I do have a lot more androgen than the average woman since I am also very oily and have some excess hair. So if you only have spots and nothing else, this may work even better for you than it does for me because you have less male hormones to make inactive.

Hey...that sounds really promising...there's just one issue for me...i am a guy...so now i don't know how does it affect the hormones...you know...perhaps there's someone who can tell bit more about how it affects a men's skin by drinking one cup of spearmint tea a day...hope i am not the only one who got such issues with skin...i tried so so many things for years now...since my mom used to be a beautician i got and tried all the cremes and this chemical stuff...i came to the conclusion nothing of these products are helping my skin getting any better...often just for one week it was fine...and then it got worse again...so i definitely go only for natural stuff now!

lately and currently i am using special soap which my mom bought...it's olive soap from france...i get along with it very well and it is not too aggressive...just cleaning it twice a day..in the morning and evening...though the actual clue is...you gotta not use the soap and rubbing it in your hands...no i noticed that only the foam is cleaning...beside the soap last longer then..haha...anyways...i got a net sponge from bodyshop and now i am taking it and rub the olive soap till i got a great foam...put it on my skin(face) let it affect a minute and then put some new foam on and gently rub my face with my hands...it really cleans way better than usual soap-cleaning...foam is better;)

and i really see a betterment of my skin...esp. blackheads...anyways...i still have problems with shaving...beside i hate my facial hair...lol...each time i shave my face after couple of days i get pimples on the common facial-hair parts...like chin...and on the sides...it must be bad regrowth...but anyways...perhaps the spearmint tea would help..just bit concerned cuz of the hormone interference.

i also do a mask twice a week...though of course again just natural products...which means...i use some silicon dioxide powder or not sure how to say...and mix it with clay and water...at times a drop oil...and let it affect some minutes...that's it...all in all i am actually almost ok with my skin...just not at the common-shaving-spots:(

so i greatly appreciate any tipps and hints of using spearmint for men.

thx in advance

hm...never heard of this stuff...but sounds again really promising...yes i understand what they are writing and saying...though perhaps it would be even better to take all the ingredients(vitamines) by just eating healthy food or?

i guess that's also a good way to achieve less acne...i am gonna get a food plan where all vitamines are contained:blink:

but lots of thx missshell81:flower:

thingummybob - I read that spearmint will lower a man's libido, but I do not know about the acne seeing as men naturally have a lot more androgen than women do. If you're okay with having a lowered libido for a while, it should be fine to try out.

I recently went off my birth control meds, and began to break out. I had stopped buying acne products, so I rushed to the drugstore and in my frustration bought the most powerful product I could find. I ended up with Clean & Clear Maximum strength Persa-Gel 10. It's 10% benzoyl peroxide and was only like $5. It works better than anything I've used before, although it makes the surrounding skin flaky and leaves a white residue. I still recommend it, if you use it at night and moisturize well.

thank you for telling me...well it would be ok for me now:)

the clinique 3 step skincare system is the best. i used it and it cleared up all my acne and i NEVER breakout anymore :)

I think when talking about skincare products we should also take into account the skin colour of the people whom the product has worked for. I purchased a book written by a group of doctors and it is all about how non-white people's skin is slightly different (and therefore more sensitive) to white people's skin and they write about products that can help non-whites and solve non-white-specific problems. This is because many Western products (which the majority are made for white people) that would work on white skin actually make non-white skin worse! I have not been able to try any Asian products (I'm half Asian and it seems many products do nothing for me) yet, but when I am in Toronto I will (for things other than spots, since the spearmint is working great and I only have one today!).

I finally got an appointment at the dermatologist for the 25. June!! I hope she'll be able to help me and not just hand me a bar of soap or something that doesn't work. I know my acne doesn't look that bad but it feels soooooooo horrible to me

^eurasian mélange I'm half asian too, hence I tend to hyperpigmentation. that's what several doctors told me and it's true: I have a little bump and as soon as it starts healing I get a scar, ugh  it is brownish and will stay for about a month, I hate it. At the moment my skin is okay (far away from good, but my only problem are the scars), I hope it'll become better as soon as I'm on birth control.

purdles, I wish you all the best :lucky: I know how terrible bad or in your case imperfect skin can make you feel :(

^ so is it true that Asians tend to have hyperpigmentation? I'm Asian myself, and compared to my Canadian friend, my scars heal much more slower than hers. Her skin is completely perfect now, and her acne was worse than mine :(

^at least that's what several doctors and my experience told me ;) when I pick a bit at a pimple it will heal really badly, but if my friend does she gets nothing.

^ i see! thnx for telling me. yes, it doesn't sound very fair does it? lol.
hope everything goes well for you!

Micaela & Laurette - Yep, I have that too! The doctors who wrote this book also mention it and it tends to happen a lot more with non-whites than with whites. Luckily I do not get loads of lumps or dents, but I do get these hyperpigmentation blotches in red, brown and sometimes even in a horrible purplish colour. :( I'm currently trying one of the products recommended in the book for that, but I've been focusing so much on the spearmint and acne (which causes the hyperpigmentation scars in the first place) that I haven't paid much attention to the blotches and whether they're improving or not. These blotches do disappear on their own, but it takes months and sometimes even a year before they are not noticeable or have completely vanished.
