The Acne Thread

I used to take a spoonful every day in a smoothie. I'm not sure that it helped, though. Supposedly flaxseed OIL is ineffective, as you need to consume the actual seeds to receive any benefits from it.

My boyfriend has gotten strange breakouts on his chest and back in the last few months. He showers every day with the unscented soap I bought him from Whole Food and it seems to be going away, but I want to find a permanent solution for this problem. he never had acne as a teenager, and now he's well into his twenties. Does anyone know anything that could help? keep showering with unscented soap and see how it goes or try something else? responses are appreciated :]

If he doesn't have a history of breaking out, it could be the fabric of the clothing he's wearing, it might be retaining sweat and not allowing his skin to breathe. It could even be a mild reaction to the washing powder he's using for his clothes.

How long do you have to go on it for in order to get lasting results?

I *think* (this was four years ago:D) I went on a high dosage for just over a month, basically until your skin clears up completely. After that I took a maintenance for about 2 years, of about 3-4 tablets a day, however I get the feeling I didn't need to maintain the dosage for that long, I was just scared of the acne coming back! Now I get a couple of spots around my period but other than that my skin is completely clear.

2 years! eek. I paid like £7 for 90 550mg tablets from eBay a while back. That sounds expensive having to take several grams a day. So you saw results after a month?

On acne.org if you leave your skin alone for a long time without washing it and letting dead skin mask develop it will help to deplete your acne.
That is only if your acne is caused by overwashing/irritation.

You can get pantothenic acid from your local branch of Holland & Barratts, £8.99 for 100 500 mg tablets, timed-release.

Whoa, that theory sounds questionable to me. I mean, even if the acne cleared up, I don't think a layer of dead skin would be a good complexion.

Hi guys. I usually have good skin, but lately (ever since I stopped smoking and went off the pill) my skin has gotten pretty bad, mainly occurring in acne-like patches around my forehead, cheeks and lip area.

I've tried everything from ph balanced Cetaphil and QV cleansers and lotions to alpha hydroxy products and lots of vitamins and a healthier diet. Nothing seemed to work. I asked a skin specialist last week what they thought of my problem and apparently the cleanser, moisturiser and foundation that I have been using is causing major skin conjestion for me and she reccommended these products by MD Skincare by Dr Dennis Gross, namely the 'All in one facial cleanser' and the 'All over blemish solution' which I have been using for 4 days now and have seen a MAJOR improvement in my skin! I'm still coming to terms with how incredibly quick the change has been!

I get a little down when I have really bad skin, so I thought I'd share this new discovery i've made with you as it may help solve your skin problems. The products aren't that expensive given that they are actually the solution that i have so desperately been looking for. My pimples are literally dissapearing by the day and I've never been happier.

I'm from Australia and MD Skincare is available from a store called Mecca Cosmetics. I think you may be able to buy it online.

^Thanks for the tip! :)

I've also found some success. I've been breaking out alittle more than usual lately, and I went to Walmart and purchased an acne system called Acne Free. It's relatively cheap, cheaper than the other brands such as Clean&Clear. I've only been on it for a few days, but I'm seeing a nice improvement! My skin feels softer and like versus said with his product, it seems the acne is vanishing before my eyes. Hopefully it keeps working so well.

Thought I would mention since Walmart is a very convient place to purchase such things, and the good price.

^very true. Aloe vera calms the skin and reduces redness. It's great to use if you want to have fresh, even skin. Great tip! ;)

how about if the acne is on your back? has anyone got any ideas ive had it for about two years now and my doctor refuses to prescribe anything.
at times it just gets me really depressed, also i have my prom coming up and i want it to have atleast calmed down a bit by then

Is this supposed to be the cheaper equivalent to Pro Activ? Or is it better? Worse?

^It is often compared to Pro-Activ, so I guess it is the cheaper equivalent. In my oppinion it is much better than pro-activ. I didn't find Pro-activ to be particularly ground-breaking, esp not for the price. I think Acne Free is cheaper and better.

fashionjunkie-I would use an exfoliating back soap. It can be hard to get rid of, harder than with face acne. There are medicated bars available at pharmacies or through a dermatologist. An exfoliating bar of soap with 10% benzol peroxide should work well. Hope that helps!

once your skin heals you're supposed to wash your face again daily except with water and/or something that is not harsh (no soaps).

hey guys. a few months back i started getting lots of breakouts around my face. it was because of lots of stress, no sleep and a really bad diet. but now my face has cleared up but i have a lot of redness on my cheeks. its not like a rash or anything but it looks like little patches under the skin. are these the scars taht you get after acne and can anything be done about it?

i stopped washing my face and recently started just to rinse with warm water. my acne cleared up. i used to use soap free cleanser too. what happened there?
