forgive me if this is a stupid question but I noticed that all the new bags have the large hardware. Are they still making new colors with the original smaller hardware because I have a "first" but I want to the next size up and I was just curious?

yes, they are! original hardware is referred to as "regular hardware" RH.

It's not heavy at all. I have one in Marine and it's well balanced on one's shoulder and only weighs 1 lbs. 5 oz. with the mirror inside and nothing else.
