Actually, those are coin pearls, which cost a lot even wholesale (which I know because my mom and her girlfriend import jewelry for their business). Pearl buttons would be cheaper and might look really cool, but it would be a pretty different look. I think that one made of mother-of-pearl buttons would be pretty easy to replicate, but it would be bloody well expensive to get that many buttons!
I am editing because I went back and looked at the prices, and even if one bought out all of the mother-of-pearl buttons at ALL of the fabric shops in town, I doubt it would total up to $2,900. Yow!

I think I've seen a few..
don't like them. The ones in the second picture are better, but I would never wear those belts.
