The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

No . I think it's just the silicones in it. Like with a conditioner. It makes the super duper soft, but only til you wash it again.

It's supposed to be a good primer for makeup though! Makes the product stay on longer. I mean, I wouldn't know if that is true. All the makeup I use is Dior Skinflash.

Maybe ask for a sample?

Does anyone notice their undertone changing during the seasons? I am EXTREMELY neutral in the winter, and I mean extremely beige, not a drop of pink or yellow. BUT in the summer I am very yellow beige. Neutral foundations make me look ashy and cool foundations make me look like a pink ham (as they do too in the winter *damn you pink foundations! damn you!*) whereas a yellow based looks almost porcelain on my PPP skin it matches me so well when I have a tad bit of a tan. So, anyone else?

Yeah, somewhat same here. In winter, I find golden beige foundation matches well (NC35). In summer, foundation needs to have at very least a tint of olive and also three shades darker. In summer, I have bronze skin, true bronze with golden olive tones to it, not orange coppery tanned tone.

I have near-perfect skin and am looking for something very lightweight, thinking of getting MAC Face and Body ... but I don't want to waste my money ... anybody recommend? I'm lookin for something i can mix with strobe cream ... something very silky & glowy ...

both are great HIGHLIGHTERS, however, i have yet to find a concealor that can actually HIDE a blemish.. seriously. i've tried booing, touche eclat, nars, chanel quick cover.....even revlon! *ugh*

i'm not looking for a cover-up ... theres nothing i need to cover up ... just something to highlight .. think i'll go for touche eclat

not for nothing, but the thought of maybelline scares me. just for you though, i'll put it on my face (haa i think my fave foundation thus far is colorstay...so, yah. that and chanel double perfection...but i cant afford that ALL the time.)

^OMG, I LOVE colorstay too! What shade and formulation do you wear? I am #150 Buff in the Oily/Combination with Softflex version.

i dont wanna scare you...but i use THE EXACT SAME SHADE AND FORMULA.. i'm plaer then nobody's buisness :D (and oily!! it's hot in florida =( )

^I am super pale too! I probably should use the Ivory shade but even though it is lighter than buff, it is VERY pinky orange to be called ivory. How do you apply it? I use a foundation brush from sephora.

Does anyone have any experience with the smashbox primers? they have a range of them and i'm always tempted by the green one to cancel any redness in my face (as I have strong pink undertones) but don't know.

o.m.f.g WHYYY!!! you use the same brush i use too......we are twins. ;) if you don't belive me, i should show you makeup collection....it's ridiculous.

Oh and meg, those smashbox primers? i only like the white one, the "original" one....however the only problem i have with them is the damn green one SUCKS! it doesnt do anything for you. try going for the Makeup For Ever green base.

im thinking of trying Chanel Teint Innocence and buying their foundation brush to use with it. both have fairly good reviews on makeupalley. right now i only use a really light coverage undereye concealer so i kinda of want to get a foundation for evening out other parts of my face for special occasions. im asian, which means i would have yellow undertones but i think i lean towards neutral(my concealer is neutral) but im not sure, a lot of makeup is too yellow for me.

i once got matched with a MAC Studio Fix compact..not sure if it was NC/NW 30(ive been matched to both NC & NW on different occassions and different makeup artists) but it was super yellow and dark(i had more color then but not that dark!)..it made me look like a Simpsons character. i ended up cracking the powder and throwing that part away and just keeping the mirror to use. *le sigh*!

im pretty pale..i would say not as pale as Vlada Roslyakova but more like Snejana Onopka.

at times like this, i wish i could have Pat McGrath help me with my makeup! she's a genius!!

Is compact foundation meant to be used with a sponge/buff pad thingy? I tried applying it with a foundation brush, but nothing would get on the brush! I ended up just using the sponge pad it came with, and I was able to apply it then.

Also, where can I go to buy those makeup wedges that I hear are so great for applying foundation with?

^ yeah its supposed to be used with the sponge it comes with. you can buy wedges at any drugstore. or you could try the makeup counters but its more expensive and you probably cant buy them in bulk.

as for myself, im not crazy about compact foundation though, its too heavy and matte looking. my sisters are into the bare escentuals/i.d. stuff but i havent really gotten into it. i think its kinda matte as well and could look powdery on the skin at times when its not probably moisturized i guess. i kind of want a light coverage foundation thats more natural or second skin looking.

^Thanks! I'm going to try to get a hold of those wedges soon and see how they match up against sponge pads. I also want to try applying my foundation wet. Supposedly it gives more coverage... is this true?

I like compact foundation... I use the one by Shiseido and it's very nice and natural looking--it doesn't look like I have powder on at all, no matter how much I put on. I also have the "powdery foundation" by Shiseido and it is indeed powdery, I guess since it's not compact and as a result more powder is able to get on the brush.

I want to give mineral makeup a go since I hear it's great. I'm not going to use BE/Bare Minerals, though, since I hear it's bad for acne-prone skin (bismuth, or something like that, is irritating).

i bought Chanel Teint Innocence today! i loveee it. the Chanel SA was soo nice, she looked just like Emily Blunt but she was a brunette..i felt like i was in the movie Devil Wears Prada! :woot:

she swiped two colors on my cheek/jawline and she picked out Cameo for me which is the second lightest color. i have to say, most of their colors looked pretty dark to me but if your fair, id still go to the counter to try at least. when she dabbed on the foundation i thought it was moisturizer! its feels really light and cool, she used her fingers to blend for me. she says its best applied with fingers or brush but not sponge. she did one cheek first then gave me a mirror and the difference was amazing. its supposed to be a light-medium coverage and it looked really natural.

i also bought the foundation brush. she said its nylon so you dont have to worry about bacteria as much and you dont have wash it daily. you can go up to three days then wash it. i havent tried it yet but im excited to try it.

then onto concealer, she choose the Pro Lumiere(click wand that looks like Touche Eclat) for me. i was glad because that was the one i was going for anyways b/c i have read some good reviews for it. she applied it to my undereyes with a concealer brush, the coverage is excellent! she sounded really relieved because she had to use the light shade(lightest they make) for me and she said it was perfect.

i also purchased the concealer brush. she said that she uses the same concealer as well and likes to use the a separate concealer brush because it doesnt deposit too much and blends it very nicely.

i couldnt stop staring at my skin afterwards, its was glowy and even :D i havent worn foundation for 3 years(Senior Prom) and its has come a long way!
