The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

I'm in love with Rimmel Recover Brightening foundation. It's seriously the best foundation i've ever used in my whole life! It has vitamin C & E so it protects and moisturizes and even though it's super light, it completly covers. I can't believe it's actually a drugstore brand (it's only $9!) and if it ever went up to $50+ i'd still buy it! Omg,sorry this totally sounds like an infomercial! LOL!
Anyways, for the past six months i've been using Jane Iredale Minerals foundation (it was $70) and found that it gave me dry patches around the nose and mouth and made my skin very oily and red. I'm really glad I found the Rimmel one. ^_^

So I have to try this one! Thank you! :flower:

^ Ive tried the YSL brush foundation. Although the shades were not for me [too dark, too orange] the application was quite nice and even [although I prefer sponges over brushes, personally]. Id say it had light to medium coverage.

I practically spent the whole of Thursday trying on every foundation known to man. I think I was in the House of Fraser beauty department for 2 hours at least.

and which one did you end up buying??:D:flower:
(love your avi-one of my all time favourite bands:heart:)

^ none of them, unfortunately. I have really fair skin and nothing is light enough for me. Prescriptives Virtual Skin in Real Ecru seemed to be the closest but I want to have a think about it before I settle on buying it.

I was really disappointed with Chanel's Teint Innocence. I heard a lot of pale skinned people rave about that but I just found even the lightest shade too dark.
As far as coverage and texture, DiorSkin Forever was my favourite. It glides on beautifully leaving the skin even and smooth. Had I been able to find the right shade for my skin I would have gone for that.
Lancome were the worst for shades and I wasnt crazy about the coverage either [too heavy and "masky"]
MAC bases are waaaay too orange. You can tell by just looking at the grubby testers that look like they have been dipped in orange paint. Probably great for those of you with a darker skin tone -you cant knock MAC for variety.
I also tried bases by Givency, Benefit, Clarins, Urban Decay, Ruby & Millie, Elizabeth Arden [and some others Ive surely forgotten] plus all your usual "lower range" lines from L'oreal, Revlon, MaXFactor etc.

I told you, I tried them all.

And yes, Sonic Youth are amazing :flower:

I'm really quite pale and I use MAC studio stick foundation in NW15 with their mineralize skin finish natural in light. :flower:

thanks for the info laisla!!:flower:
i am extremely pale too.it is so freakin'hard to find one that matches..although i was told that becca and paul and joe have a good range of pale shades..anyone tried them?..and kate:does this combination provides decent coverage ?..you see i am blessed with really pale acne skin:(

I'm quite fair too, but not extremely pale, and my main problem is that my skin tone is not cold nor warm, but neutral. Most foundations look to pink or too yellow on me. But some months ago I found my perfect match: Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer in Porcelain. LM has quite a lot of pale shades, so you should try this brand.

Well I don't put that much on because I have clear skin but if you want total coverage I'd go for a more fluid foundation, I just use studio stick to balance out my skin tone mostly and to stop my eyes looking tired after some late late nights! :flower:

thats still too dark...maybe that gives you an idea of just how pale I am

I went to the Prescriptives counter again today and tried on Real Ecru and Real camellia. I have yellow toned skin but seeing as most foundations are too orange maybe I need "real camellia" which is pink or Real vanilla which is somewhere in between [I didn't see the latter on display so I need to go a test that one as well]

I did ask this question in the Prescriptives thread but its kind of dead there so I'll ask it again here. When their foundations oxidize do they have a habit of turning orange? This is he problem I find with most foundations, after a few hours they have a distinct orange hue.
The foundation costs £22/$44 so I want to be 100% sure its right for me before buying it.

ETA: I just read
Ksanochka Vanmra post and Im sort of thinking maybe i am neutral too which would explain why shades look too orange or too pink on me. Its so hard to tell...

laisla, maybe you are neutral too, that's quite annoying. If you are, you need to look for foundations with a beige tone rather than yellow or pink. Try the one I'm using if you want a light to medium coverage and maybe it will suit you. I think that LM Porcelain Ivory is neutral too, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone use Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture? Is it too shimmery?

Has anyone tried Elizabeth Arden's Ceramide Skin Smoothing Loose Powder?

Do you think of Elizabeth Arden more of a skincare brand rather than makeup? I'm just looking for a loose powder to wear everyday over tinted moisturizer and I want something better than just a drugstore brand and I like EA's skincare lines but don't really know about the makeup. Do you guys know if the makeup is any good?

i am VERY pale and i have bought Chanel's Teint Innocence in the past and i like it.

too expensive for me to buy now however...

What do you guys think of Yves Saint Laurent foundations?

I use the perfect radient touch , it's really easy to apply. The only thing I would say though is the price it's £28 and at the moment my skin seems to very dry so it does apply quite patchy however when my skin is behaving it does give even coverage that has a brightening effect.

I think I'm going to try Chanel Teint Innocence next.

it isn't very shimmery but it doesnt moisturize at all and sometimes i feel it can look ashy. make sure you moisturizer very well before you put it on.

Well, you are supposed to moisturize before applying it, so that won't be a problem for me. I think I'll go ahead and buy it

oh. i'm so frustrated i STILL have not found the right foundation. everything makes me breakout more and its so frustrating. i want to cover up my zits and my uneven tone but i don't want to make my skin worse. gah! i just dont know what to do.

I got this tester from my beautician and I loved it, but now I can't find a place that stocks it around here
