The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

I have young, good skin, but I love a little bit of coverage... what foundation and powder can you recommend for me?

Like one of the first posts in this thread...i love Armani Luminous Skin...I have oily/combination skin so I use it like a highlighter along my cheekbones. I'm Asian and I read somewhere that Lucy LIu uses a mix of 6 and 7, so I cant be wrong with my 6.5 :)

Try tinted moisturizer. Most companies make one right now. Laura Mercier and Dr Dennis Gross make highly rated ones.

It will even your coloring without making you look like you are wearing foundation. If you already have some liquid foundation, mix half foundation, half moisturizer to make your own tinted moisturiZER.

OR you can use powder foundation for just a little more coverage. Apply with brush for a flawless sheer finish. Shiseido, MAC, Chanel make some good ones. If you want drugstore, Maybelline and Prestige make very good ones.

Hey everyone <3 :flower:
how come when ever i apply foundation, i never get the same smooth natural effect that celebrities achieve??

I'm currently using the Subl'mine Givenchy liquid foundation and it looks very unatural and cakey, i'm looking for a foundation that can give smooth full coverage without looking cakey and dry, can someone help me out?? thanks alot!

Hi! :)

Firstly, apply a skin-brightening primer, like Clarins Beauty Flash balm or MAC Strobe Cream after moisturising. Then, use a radiance-boosting foundation - some great ones are:
- Clarins True Radiance Foundation
- Diorskin pure light
- Revlon Diffusing Tint foundation

Then, after applying concealer where needed, use a big brush and dust your face with a very finely milled powder - I love Stila IPF and MAC Blot powder.
This will ensure your face has the "lit from within" look without appearing oily :)

For the rosy cheeks, use an intense-shimmer blush like MAC's mineralise skin finish in Stereo Rose, or Clinique's blush in Iced Lotus and apply on the apples of your cheeks.

Good luck!

Trixilbella, great advice...and I like very much Diorskin pure light, but I have combination /oily skin and think that it wont work for me??

i have found the perfect combination. I have dry skin and and i target for a glowy radiant fniish not matte cause i think matte looks too heavy and made up and feels liek it will dry my skin out .

i first clean my face, moisturize it with a cream my doctar prescribed

half an hour later i put on Laura Mericier's foundation primer

then i put on Prescrptives Illuminating Potion, foundation primer transulscent magic.

Then 5 minutes later I mix my Prescriptives custom blend foundation with another Illuminating Potion --Deep transuclent this gives me a more sun kiss glow, its lovely, perfect for summer or a year round tannish look

after I use Prescritpives Liquid Powder and brush off the excess so it stays put.

and then some bronzer to define my strong features more

and i use Benefit's high beam to highlight my nose, cheeks and eyebrows

I am almost done using my Custom Blend foundation, i am planning to get a new foundation, i love to keep trying. I heard the Chanel Pro Lumiere Makeup SPF15 is rawelly good, is it matte or glowie radiant? I dont want something too matte or heavy. I am considering the 3 foundations

1) Chanel PRo Lumiere Makeup SPF 15
2) Laura Mercier silk foundation
3) Armani..forgot whats its called, not the matte one tho , i like dewy glowing skin

^ I agree!
I also have quiet dry skin and I really like the almost ' natural ' and dewy look without it looking matte and made up.

Natalie portman is one of my beauty icons, her make up is just perfect

Primers?

I'm thinking about buying a new primer. I'm currently using Clinique's Instant Perfector, but i'm starting to feel a bit sceptical. It does give you a nice, smooth suface, but when you look closely, you'll see that the smoothness is the result of your pores being completly filled by the product. Surely that can't be good, so, what good primers are there that doesn't clogg your pores? has anyone tried YSL's Teint Parfait? Thanks, Linnea

I've ony used one primer before, by Bare Esentuals. But how can you tell what's a good primer vs. a bad primer?

^ good qs, i wonder how can you tell whats a good primer and bad too. primer is so that the color of the foundation wont clog your pores right? =S

^ For me a good primer is one that has a smooth texture, non-sticky, makes the make up go on easily and make the make up last a long time.
And a bad one is one that breaks me out or that makes my face look oily in a 2-3 hours.

Ive just started using tinted moisturiser in place of foundation and was wondering if there is still a need for primer. I have been using primer under the TM, but is it necessary? Will it be doing anything?

No one needs a primer, it´s just a matter if you like it or not.
Compare and see if you take any benefits from using under tinted moist. or not. If it doesn´t don´t use it!

I'm a pain in the butt when it comes to foundations but I can't help it!?
I read the whole thread about it and still confused!
Saturday is my shopping day, so this is a last cry for help!!(I am not that clueless when it comes to make up, but still haven't found a foundation that worked for me the way I wanted to-watching so many fashion shows will kill me!!)
The thing is that I have combination/oily T zone and that a heavy foundation just makes it oilier and very unnatural! So I was thinking Dior? Never tried it before. The options are:
Diorskin fluide/Diorskin purelight+Diorskin poudre libre or
just a liquid foundation Diorskin fluide or pure light combined with Clinique pore minimizer instant perfector, never tried it before aslo.
Has anyone tried Diorskin fluide? Is it enough alone?
Or should I stick with Clinique superbalanced make up or Lancome ID??
I want sheer to medium coverage the most natural possible...............
I desperatly need help..Otherwise I am lazy, I would never write THAT much..........

^ I'm the same skin type as you, but I've never been too fond of Dior as the shades never match quite right and the scent is off-putting. However I've found Givenchy foundations to me quite effective as they offer a light and matte finish. Some others say Laura Mercier and Nars are good, but I've never had a chance to try them out myself.

P.S. I've also tried a sample of Estee Lauder's Double Wear and it did what it said on the package - Offered good coverage (without an unnatural finish) and lasted for hours without transferring. I remember going to a party and afterwards, I still had "perfect" skin. I think it's not oil-free, but it never felt oily or broke me out.

Hope that helps

Of course!!! Thanks a lot!!!!!!!
I would like to try Nars, Mac or something similar but they are not available in my country. Isnt Estee Lauder Double Wear heavy?
I had Givanchy two years ago, the one called Teint Miroir Mat, and I still have it becouse I hated it......it was so FAKE on my skin, but I suppose they are making something better now.
