if you're unhygienic it's because you aren't cleaning yourself properly....NOT because the hair is causing hygiene problems.!

imo, wet pubic hair is disgusting, so to me, it's much more hygienic to shave so that when you do pee, that hair does not get wet. there is no such thing as cleaning yourself properly so that your pubic hair doesn't get wet... unless you are some out of this world acrobat and pee differently than others so that by some miracle, your pubic hair doesn't get wet when you pee and wipe.

so, i guess it all depends on what you feel is unhygienic. personally, i think that drinking from someone else's cup is disgusting and unhygienic, and i know a lot of people who do it and don't think it's a big deal... so it's all about personal choice and perception.

The practice of pubic hair removal can be dated back to 3,000 BC in India and Egypt, and is considered as more hygenic due to some peoples "Beliefs" (Best word i can think of, you'll have to read between the lines there )
Although im sure Adorefaith is correct in saying that the PR machine has used the idea to sell.

IMHO i think its all personal choice.

IZZIE,Well now you explained yourself, to you is unhygienic and you have all the right to think of it that way, but there is no medical evidence to support your theory. People do not get more diseases or are dirtier, quite the contrary, because they have pubic hair, it actually has a function.

But you didn't say, "I personally think it's unappealing so I don't have pubic hair". You said it was not hygienic and unsanitary and I quote:

Sorry, but that statement is simply untrue. Your opinions on pubic hair are not medical facts. If doctors thought pubic hair was harmful to human beings, they wouldn't allow their patients to have it or, heaven forbid, have it themselves. Just because you think something is "icky" doesn't mean that it poses any health threat.

^ everything that has been posted here is an opinion, fact being that if you were to ask your doctor if having pubic hair/not having pubic hair is unhygienic/hygienic, he or she wouldn't say otherwise because all in all, it's a personal preference and either and or would not make you any cleaner or dirtier according to an ob-gyn.

you should read what you quoted again. pubic hair... actually, all hair, can carry contaminants that are harmful and could be far more harmful than if one did not have hair, although hair naturally protects the skin and body from other contaminants. that is what i was saying.

i'm a med student. really, i am not pull this stuff out of my rear end. scouts honor!

- pubic hair does carry germs.
- pubic hair may/can carry lice.
- during puberty and/or a female's ovulation cycle, the vagina produces a clear or at times white discharge that is called leukorrhea. basically, it's just your vagina self-cleaning itself, but this DOES carry germs, a heck of a lot of germs, actually, which 99.9% of the time will obviously end up on your pubic hair.
- pubic hair retains moisture. so, if your vagina produces an abnormal amount of discharge, this could lead to infections.

but again, having or not having pubic hair is a personal choice rather than a medical choice.

You're right, it's not a medical issue and you say an ob-gyn would say it won't make you any more or less clean but you stated that not having pubic hair is more hygienic (conditions or practices, as of cleanliness, conducive to health) and sanitary (of or relating to health). So if it has no adverse effect on a person's health (besides the lice, which has less to do with pubic hair and more to do with sexually transmitted diseases) then how is it more sanitary and hygienic? Actually, don't answer that, this "e-fight" is going nowhere

i said that in my opinion, not having pubic hair is more hygienic, cleaner, and better for ones health, at least in those regions... and this is stuff that i became better aware of while studying medicine. but you know, opinions are like assholes. everyone has one.

this thread, as far as i understood, is about the removal / non-removal of pubic hair and how you do or do not go about it...
the 'gross or sexy' thread is about this debate above^ whether or not body hair is gross, unhygienic, perfectly fine, sexy, etc...

the first post asked how you remove the hair 'down there'...if at all..

also, if you read the thread you'll find the discussion became about ALL body hair...not just underarm hair...also, in the first post, the question posed is: "are we brainwashed to think body hair is disgusting"....pretty similar to what is being debated here...

no one is trying to pick a fight here. i am simply pointing out that xmodel citizen and i are discussing pubic hair, and you linked us to a thread about armpit hair.

just as that thread is about armpit hair and other things relating to bodily hair are being discussed, it's probably more than okay for us to discuss pubic hair within a thread about shaving or not shaving the "hair down there." that's all i am saying. no fight picking. that's crazy!

I'd very much like to walk into a salon and say 'please, wax me EVERYWHERE!!! (except eyebrows and head, lol)' but I'm way too chicken! Whilst I know they do this as a profession and therefore have seen it all a hundred times before, I can't help but think 'but what if for some unknown reason I'm going to be the discussion point when one of them says to another 'And I had this one client who... blah blah blah...' equalling total embarrassment, even if I'm not there to witness the comment. I might try and gather the courage before I go away on holiday, but we shall see.

In the past I've shaved but only 'enjoy' the results for 24 hours before it starts to feel irritating and have also used regular hair removal cream which admittedly burned for a bit but I thought the results might be good. Shame it ended up having the same results as shaving and again only felt pleasant for 24 hours. I'd love to go for laser if a) I could get over my self-consciousness issues and b) could afford it but I think that's a long way off if it ever happens at all!

She was just stating an opinion, and well, I have to back her up on it, because TO ME having any hair "down there" feels gross and unnatural, but I'm not choosing for everybody. It's an opinion I have had for a long time, of my own volition, and nothing will ever change it.

Usually, I just wax the sides a bit...but today I somehow removed almost everything Now I just have one strip of hair left It was rather asymmetric at first, but my trusty tweezer helped me out. Absolutely glorious! It doesn't look too shabby, there's still some hair left, so I think I'll keep it up. I don't like to go bare, though. It feels like my little friend is freezing
