Oh, I get it. For a moment I was so confused.:p

I just use a mirror so I don't have to bend over.
I just do it for touch ups and stray hairs as well.
I do think tweezing the full monty would take far too much time.

My first posting :) Just wondering if you have ever considered laser hair removal. I have done that, and it is a god send. No more shaving, waxing, in-grown hair etc.

I wish I could. My old roommate was in the process of getting it done (full body) and it's like $5,000 I think. I can't afford that. Plus I don't have dark hair and she does (she's Indian) so i think it's more worth the money for her.

eta: Also welcome to tFS! :flower:

I have heard that the lasers that break down the hair root could also break down cells leading to premature aging or worse, cancer.
I don't know if I believe it but I am very wary of lasers in general.

I have a friend who lasered her upper lip but the hairs came back less than a year later.

Did she go through the whole process right? B/c my roomie would go for a session like every month or two when she went home (we were at school in HI but she's from CA) and she had to go to probably 8-12 sessions (I don't know/ remember exactly). It might have been more than normal since she had to wait longer in between. Also, she had to always stay out of the sun b/c if she had any suntan she couldn't get lasered b/c it would burn her skin so she'd have to reschedule the appt. But I imagine after all the treatments were done it would be heaven! I don't know if it has any bad side effects. Probably if you did it all the time but I think once you get all the hair to stop growing you're done.

She went through the process twice b/c when it didn't work the first time they gave her a second set of sessions instead of her $ back.
Still didn't work which makes me think their laser was bunk.

After you shave/wax/nair/pluck whatever down there, does anyone have a problem with the stream? (ie not flowing straight) :ninja:

Sorry if this it truly tmi. . .

You'll have to do the laser treatment about 5 times (depends on individuals) to be rid of all the hair. But with each treatment, the hair reduces by half, and the regrowth is much slower and hair is finer. High recommended. No side effect thus far, except smooth skin :) I had mine done couple of years ago.

^It's not 5 times at all...for some it's 10-12, it varies a lot. Most require more than 5 times + touch ups.

^ yeah based on info from some of my girlfriends who have had it done, you need to go at least 10 times, and even then some hair does still grow back, though it is significantly reduced and significant finer, lighter, etc

i'm also worried about these potential cancer causing claims that broken mentions. i would like to get laser done but i am wary too. i dont think it has been around long enough/tested widely and thoroughly enough to conclude that it is '100% harmless' like so many people want to believe. of course there is never one single thing that is guaranteed to give you cancer 20 years down the road, but i think the less you expose yourself to treatments or elements that are potentially cancer causing, the better off you're going to be. i can just imagine 10 or 15 yrs down the road women are going to be saying 'well they told us laser was fine....they told us it was safe, they even encouraged it...', the same way my mum and her generation were told tanning til they were brown as berries was completely safe too...

^ I agree Adore. :flower:
And even if the lasers are safe as they claim to be they are only so when used properly.
I would hate to think the damage they could do in untrained hands.

I recall reading about a top model ( Linda E?) who was burnt by one at a top NYC spa.

I had my first wax today and I did it all by myself with veet hot wax ...it worked very fine, much better than I thought and I could stand the pain. few day ago i read in this thread somebody plugged the hair with tweezers and I was like "eeeww" but there were some hairs that didnt want to go off somehow today and i plugged them and it didnt hurt at all.

I am 100% happy with my waxing results and i will do it again :)

i'm thinking of having a brazilian done... how bad does it hurt?? are there any preparation steps i have to take prior to going to the salon?

if this is your first time ...
then yes. it is EXCRUUUUUUUUUUUUCIATINGLY PAAAAAAAAINFUL!

I've tried all sorts of at home waxes (testing them on my legs first) and nothing has worked. Everything has left all the goo on my legs without pulling out a single hair. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

i would really like to find a good home waxing kit. i bled pretty badly the last time i tried it, but shaving has become so tiresome. i'm too much of a chicken to go to a salon. :ninja:
