The Hunger Games Thread

^I loved her character in SOA, I´m happy she got the role :)

Loaded question: Who plays a paunchy, pathetic drunk better than John C. Reilly? Actually, that’s a bit of a trick, because the answer, of course, is no one. And for that reason, we’re told it will be the Oscar-nominated Reilly who’ll be soon be getting the offer to play Haymitch Abernathy in the forthcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games at Lionsgate Films.

If you’ve read Collins’s bestselling book, you already know that Abernathy is the only person from Panem’s District 12 to ever win The Hunger Games, and now serves as a mentor, albeit an alcoholic one, to district tributes Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). And if you haven’t read the book, well, then you have no earthly idea what we just said, but this site can help you get up to speed.

We’re also told that Reilly had been in talks to join Disney’s Oz, the Great and the Powerful as the sidekick to James Franco’s Wizard character, but that those talks had stalled; now we know why.

yeah, just the main three are terrible (well, Jennifer i guess i can warm up to, but the guys are a disaster)

John C. Reilly is a great choice!!! Haymitch is described as once being good lucking though, so Reilly doesn't fit that description.
However, I'm SO excited about this.

The actress cast as the mother is also great!

So far the casting has been brilliant with the exception of the main three,
but since they've cast all the other characters so well, it make me more relaxed about the main 3.

I could see John C Reilly as Haymitch, but wouldn't mind someone like Jeff Bridges or Liam Neeson. Elizabeth Banks as Effie is perfect. I think Danny Huston would be great as creepy President Snow.

^I know it´s not gonna happen but I want Alexander Skarsgard as Finnick :brows::lol:

I like Alexander is too young for Finnick. Maybe someone like Matt Lanter for Finnick and Rose Byrne for Johanna.

My top choice for Haymitch would be someone like Karl Urban.

Isn't Finnick supposed to be in his twenties? Well we won't know who plays "Finnick" until/if Catching Fire and Mockingjay are made.

They may go unnamed in Suzanne Collins' dystopian thriller, but now you can put faces (and names!) to the actors portraying District 3's tributes: Meet Ian Nelson and Kalia Prescott!

The duo will represent Panem's electronics-producing region (a background that comes in handy for the male tribute during the Games). As you can guess, since neither tribute is named, these two don't play a huge part in the frenzied fight, but as I've alluded, you'll want to keep your eye on Ian's character, for sure.

As is the case with many of the tributes thus far in "The Hunger Games," Ian and Kalia are green in the Hollywood scene. In fact, the majority of Kalia's screen credits are as a stunt girl (very fitting for this particular production, no?). According to her resume, Kalia also holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. (We certainly wouldn't want to face her in the Arena!)

Ian and Kalia join already-cast tributes Amandla Stenberg and Dayo Okeniyi (District 11), Leven Rambin and Jack Quaid (District 1) and, of course, District 12 tributes Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.

oh and apparently
According to Reilly's rep, "John does not have an offer. NY Mag never fact checked with anyone."
maybe we don't have a Haymitch yet...we'll see

^The District Tributes are cute. The girl looks a lot like how Katniss is described in the books.

But I love how all the tributes they're casting look so young...much younger than Jennifer Lawrence...when in the book, Katniss is supposed to look younger than a lot of them. Not older. Hmmm....

and it's official
Elizabeth Banks will be taking on the role of Effie in the upcoming adaptation of The Hunger Games.

and the District 4 Tributes

All these tributes look like KIDS! Which is how they're supposed to look.
Jennifer Lawrence looks way older than everyone else.

Even Josh Hutcherson is in the right age range.

But isn´t the age range from 12 to 18? lots of these actors look like 12 but a lot look like 16-18. I wouldn´t call an 18 yo a "kid" like I would a 12 yo...

The age range in the books is 12-17. When they turn 18, they're not eligible anymore.

But I know Rue was the youngest (12) and then there had to have been at least one 17 year old.

My point is...all the tributes they're casting look great. But in reference to Jennifer Lawrence, they all look much younger than her.
In the book, Katniss is described as being quite small and looking young compared to the other tributes. Right?

I feel like the girls are all too "pretty" for these gritty roles. Hollywood refuses to take a chance and cast girls who aren't models for any part. Meanwhile the guys can be fugly (i.e. Josh and Liam) even when the character calls for someone handsome. Also how are they going to make someone as robust and healthy-looking as Jennifer Lawrence look like she is emaciated and always on the verge of starving to death without making her lose a scary amount of weight?

I hope they don't ruin this because I really want to see Catching Fire on screen and my favorite character- Finnick. Sadly I think the casting of Finnick will be the biggest letdown based on the other guys who have been cast.
