Woody Harrelson? Ack. He's always the same in his roles for me.

I kinda wanted Brendan Gleeson to play Haymitch, but that's just maybe because when I was reading, I always pictured Haymitch as Mad Eye Moody.

hmm.. not happy at all with the casting of katniss. imo, jennifer lawrence does not at all come off 'tough' or strong like i'd imagine katnis..

You need to see Winter's Bone.

The only reason I don't really think Jennifer is right, is because of the physical description of Katniss. She was not a fair, blue eyed blond in the book

Love Woody as Haymitch. He does drunk, angry, loveable and surly very well

Stanley Tucci is perfect.

^I agree. I'm not happy with Peeta or Gale either, but most Peeta.
Liam is actually hot and has the right build. He can look the part if they change his hair.
But I don't see how Josh is going to work.

My ideal Katniss would have been either Sarah Bolger or a slighter older Ella Purnell:

Neither Katniss or Peeta is described as being attractive in the series. It is alluded to several times throughout the series that Katniss isn't pretty and Peeta's personality is said to be his winning attribute. Only Gale is actually described as being tall and handsome along with Finnick of course.

Jennifer Lawrence is more attractive than I think Katniss should be and Josh may be just about right in terms of being average like Peeta even though his hair/eye color aren't right. Liam is not handsome to me at all so I'm disappointed with his casting as Gale.

^let´s face it, it´s Hollywood. They´re not gonna cast unattractive actors for a teen/YA movie... though I don´t find Liam and Josh attractive at all.

I think Katniss is described as pretty several times, particularly during the tournament.
But she's not obviously pretty, because she's always covered in dirt and dried blood.

A lot of people assume she's not, because of that one line in book 3 when Peeta's mind is corrupt and he says she's not THAT pretty.

^The only time Katniss describes herself as looking and feeling beautiful is when she is heavily made-up by Cinna and his team. Otherwise several characters throughout the series mention her lack of looks. Finnick and Peeta both mention it at one point and a couple of random people hint at it throughout the series.

That's one thing I like about the character Katniss is that she's not the typical female protaganist who's gorgeous with some great, happy personality. She's actually plain and a beeyotch. I actually wanted to slap her by the end of Mockingjay.

i couldn't stand her anymore at the end of Mockingjay, i was so sick of her and her constant whining throughout the book. i liked that she wasn't the born hero and she struggled with her role but it got so boring and annoying when she always left and cried alone in some corner (felt like every five minuted to me)

although i agree that Troian looks right, she's way too old. how old is she, in her late 20s? she doesn't have that youthfulness imo (neither does Jennifer)

lol yeaa, for sure you'd think troian isn't young enough.. but then again, she does play a 16 year old quite well imo in pretty little liars... so maybe there's hope? lol i also like how, in comparison to jennifer lawrence, she has a pretty stern face? plus, jennifer's blonde hair, blue eyes, dosen't really work for this role as it would right away make katniss look more like the stereotypical type of protagonist.. if y'know what i mean. that's just the vibe i'm gettin

I adored these books, and am fairly happy at the casting so far. I am eager to see the film!

I didn't know they start filming it this month. That's so soon.
I'm hoping the film comes out gritty and raw with real acting and not something like The Condemned.

First look at Katniss in the Hunger Games....I'm still not sure.

she doesn´t look too young but I like it, I though she´d wear contact lenses though... can´t wait to see Peeta and the outfits

She still looks too healthy although I don't realistically expect her to starve herself into the role. Katniss is described as being petite enough to scurry up trees like a squirrel. Jennifer seems too tall for that.

Yeah. She's 5'7", but luckily Jennifer is a tomboy/athlete so I don't think she will have any issues with that side of things.

I'm looking forward to seeing Liam and Josh in character.
I have a sneaking suspicion that all the female fans will go gaga over Liam when they see him as Gale. Just a hunch.
Not so sure about Josh though.

I don't forsee any Robert Pattinson style fan craze over Josh or Liam. Neither of them is attractive enough to capture the collective public fancy. If they're lucky they be regarded on the level of the Harry Potter boys- good representations of the novels but not hearthrobs.

Having Katniss be the same size as a lot of the other tributes kinda kills that whole underdog vibe you get from the books where you see this tiny girl holding her own during the games.

Speak for yourself, I'd take DanRad and Rupert over any of the twilight guys any day.

However, thankfully The Hunger Games (like Harry Potter) isn't about looks or romance.
The characters have much more important things to worry about.
Hopefully the films will focus on that as well.

But Katniss isn't really an underdog. All the tributes know she's skilled with a bow from the start, because of what she does to Seneca Crane.
It's even stated in the book that they know she's a threat and will be after her...that's one of the reasons she spends so much time hiding and observing.
