The Indie / Emerging Designers mega thread

Yumi is very very talented...she was actually hired by the house of mugler to help bring it back...but Mister Mugler was not willing to collaborate with any other designer and as a result...the company closed it's doors...such an incredible shame...what a huge missed opportunity...she continues to produce the "couture" collection and has just launched a more career oriented line called E.T.O....she sells mostly at nieman marcus...in the past she has been in barney's, brown's, linda dresner and isetan in japan...

lena-erotokritos reminds me of cacharel meets moschino with a touch of patrick kelly... :flower: so whimsical and happy... :flower:

Gotta move to NYC!!! B)

There is only one store in the USA that stocks Les Hommes (withing the walking distance from my work :innocent: ).

If only the notion of clothes speaking for itself is true in the retail world, than I agree with you, Les Hommes will get MUCH bigger.

P.S. I also agree with you about the shopping choices - I always try to support the independent boutiques first and foremost (not that I have much disposable income these days...)
faust, what's the name of the store that stocks Les Hommes? What about Schonberger, which stores in NYC carry him? Visiting NYC is probably going to be my only choice if I ever wanted to get my hands on his clothes, since bloody Holt's dropped him.

But moving to NYC, as much as I'd love to do that, is out of the question for someone attending a local grad school like me.

The store is called A. It's a newcomer that has built up its reputation fast. The buyer/owner, Carlos, really has a wonderful eye for clothes - I'd buy half their stock in a flash, if I could afford it (they also stock the biggest selection of men's Ann Demeulemeester in the US, Raf Simons, Carol Christian Poell, Rick Owens, Capre Diem, Cloak, Thomas Engel Hart - a really creative mix overall). Anyway, when you'll be set on coming to NYC, contact me, and I'll try to help as much as I can (having a family  ) to show you around or at least to tell you what's where. Come during the sales season (like mid-June)!

Schonberger - A. used to carry him, so did Barneys and Saks. A. dropped him only because he's been constantly having production problems and they got fed up with getting his clothes midway through the season (a business is still a business, they have to sell). I think Barneys dropped him too, but Saks still carries him.

I would think you have a good chance of moving to NYC, being a graduate architecture student - but I'm sure you know more about the job market in that area than I do (my interest in architecture is purely layman's).

I work in the architectural field in NYC. So if you have any questions, feel free

I'm too ecstatic over what I'm reading to say anything coherent right now, but I think I can manage a big THANK YOU, faust. :woot:

Thanks also to Sugo and softgrey - I may very well be bugging you with questions about the job market once I graduate!

Never in my dreams would I imagine seeing Demeulemeester, Les Hommes, CCP, and Cloak in the same store. That's like a quadruple orgasm in fashion terms for me. Please tell the owner I'd gladly lick his shoes just for stocking all of these labels..... :flower:

I don't know why but I think I confused Erotokritos with Nom-D for some reason

Anyhoo,I love the pictures you posted softgrey*! I especially enjoyed the last two ;)

i'll pass all your compliments on to yumi...i'm sure she'll appreciate them.... :flower:

Oooh, lena, your friend has made some extremely cute clothing! I like his work a lot.

I also like Takuya Angel. Not that I own any pieces from him, but I definitely enjoy looking at his lines.

I don't have any clothing by any designer, unless I count myself, and that hardly counts, since I'm not a proper designer.

Hey, runner, do you know anything about the processes he utilizes for creating some of his clothes? I'm curious to know...

Yea, some of his stuff is very cool (although some of it ehhhh, "experimental" shall we say  ). Anyway, I LIVE in his reworked Swedish Navy coat during the winter!

He would have been another of my choices,Marc.

Oh and there's a rising French designer(?)by the name of Robert Normand whose work I fell in love with this recent season and the previous was no different.
