The MAC Makeup Thread

I used to use the Blot Powder and it was really good for eliminating shine, but I was wondering if anyone had tried the Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder and how they compare?

From what I heard, the P&P isn't that much different from Invisible Set. I'd say that if you like the blot powder, you should go ahead and stick with that.

I just got the Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder and I love it! I always get a white ashy layer from Blot Powder and the P+P is really invisible! And it makes your skin feel so soft and smooth!

can anyone suggest some everyday, neutral colors?? i have a highlight, i just need a lid color and a contour color...i am NW20 and have blueish greyish eyes

i have woodwinked which is supposed to be a good neutral color but it looks quite dramatic to me...when i wear it i feel like i have a ton of makeup on...

^ I have worn Idol Eyes (sparkly silver) all over when I'm in a hurry ... what about something like that?

My favorite (Dove Feather) has been discontinued ... it's a subtle taupe with a lavender cast.

Plum Dressing is a really good one that could go for the lid or for a crease/liner colour-and plum is the new neutral. Coppering and Cranberry are ones you may want to give a try, and Melon pigment is nice too.

I checked out the make up art collection today and the only thing I ended up getting is off the wall eyeshadow. I thought a lot of the colors felt chalky and the colors weren't really for me.

For an everyday basic, I really like the pale gold in the honey collection. I dont remmeber the name but I'm sure trista can tell you!

I just got Chili lipstick via Back to Mac and I love it, it's such a perfect shade. And it cost nothing! happy days :)

does anyone know where to find a list of the next collections coming out for mac? i think the next one for us in the UK is the makeup artist collection, is there any necessities?

Temptalia has a list of upcoming collections and various info. As far as what the "must-haves" are, Crest The Wave is one that should be on everyone's list, as are the Technakohls because they go on rather sheerly, making it a nice quick pop of colour. The rest though, it honestly depends on what you are needing. The lipsticks are all avoidable and easily dupeable, and the lipglasses are nice everyday ones, but there have been similar things released this year. The eye quads are pretty. Some people complain about pigmentation issues, but you should be using a base every day. The highlight of them is the In The Gallery (purple quad). The Photorealism (green) is a very dark, neutral green-it's not a peppy or pastel green. It's nice, but I skipped because I rarely ever do greens. The Notoriety (neutral) has some bad finishes on some of the shadows, but it's a great thing if you need a quad that is basic shadows-nothing too fancy.

As far as the shadows, I recommend each and every one of them, although like with the quads, you want a base. Of the pigments, Brash & Bold is the best. Push The Edge is boring, Cocomotion is a repromote, and Heritage Rouge is permanent at the PRO stores. As far as the glitters, they are all perm at PRO, too. Reflects Rust is the best, although Reflects Copper is nice. Fuschia is pretty, but a little chunky for everyday use. Gold, same deal.

For the most part, I am skipping the fall collections-I just need VAE and the thermal mask. I may get a grease paintstick if money allows, but it's not a necessity. The holiday collection looks decent, though, and I am hoping to get some Napoleon Perdis and Urban Decay to fill out my collection.

i am a religious MAC user, but recently have gone from using the mineralize liquid foundation and powder, to using studio fix and the sheer finish pressed powder and my skin is dry and just looks terrible.
i love their blush colours though. dollymix is my all time fave.

I don't use the MAC foundations-there is a good range, but the Benefit Some Kind-A Gorgeous is one that I like.

The 187 brush is $70 in Denmark. WTF?! It's $42 in the US. I swear, I'll move far, far away some day.

But I don't know if I can trust eBay if I want to get it there...?

On another and more peaceful note......I did get the Studio Sculpt Concealer, my Studio Finish concealer was pretty much dead. The Studio Sculpt seems much smoother and easier to blend...it photographs like crap with flash (just like the Studio Finish), but that's what you get with titanium dioxide.

^ I can help you, Ida, if you like ...

I noticed I was just about out of Blot Powder, so I tried the Prep & Prime, which I was told is cornstarch based. It's still in its box, so no opinion yet ... I also got some matte nail polish from I believe the Richard Phillips collection (strange ... never heard of him, just someone I knew IRL named that--positive it's not him :p) ... Cool Reserve. I haven't compared, but I believe it's pretty exactly the color of one of my bags.

^I'd very much like you to help me, I feel so ripped off. :( I think the 222 brush was pretty high up there too.

I hope I really like this concealer, since I spend every morning covering my awful dark circles...it better be good, we're going to spend an awful lot of time together
