The Mascara Thread

So I have a question for all you mascara experts. :p I like my lashes very natural yet still subtly long and black. So, what are some good mascaras that can do exactly that?

i think best for that is qlinique naturally glossy mascara. its exelent for natural yet not boring lashes ;)

I've heard the new guerlain mascara, Le 2 ...is amazing. better than diorshow and ysl faux cils, but I haven't tried it myself.

i have architect of l'oreal. i am not a fan of that mascara.. but only l'oreal fits the best.. because with other mascara i get black under my eyes

I've bought the YSL one but when I use it it clumps. I think there's something wrong with the way that I apply. Any tips? FYI, I am new to Mascara so any tips would be welcome.

You should make sure that there isn't too much mascara on the brush. When you're applying the mascara, you have to tilt your head and hold the brush at an angle. I find the mascara looks the best when you wiggle it back and forth near the roots of the eyelash, and then just sweep up.

My absolute favorite mascara is YSL Faux Cils. It makes me look like I'm wearing fake eyelashes! But it's expensive, so I just save it for nights out. During the day I use Maybelline's Soft & Full which I really like. It's not clumpy, and enhances your eyelashes (volume + bit of length) in a natural way.

Guerlains Le 2 mascara was horrendous on me...not impressed at all. good idea conceptually, but the brush is bad for my long thin lashes, no volume at all, maybe good for those who need length

Chanel's "Inimitable" Multi-dimensional mascara is my current favourite - and it lasts better and longer than any other imo!

I have both Dior Show and YSL Faux Clix and I cant decide which one is better!! Also, I have like NO eyelashes on my bottom lid which I am really unhappy about...I wanna put some mascara on the bottom lashes but because I have so few, it ends up hitting my skin instead - any tips on how to apply it more appropriately? thanks!

My Diorshow just ran out so I'm in the market for a new mascara! I got a free sample of Givenchy's Eye Fly at Sephora and looove it, but I haven't tried a lot of other products so I'm not sure if there's something better out there. I've heard a lot of good things about Faux Cils.. is it worth it? I don't mind spending money on make-up if the quality's worth it.

Love it or Leave It: The Mascara Editionby Carolyn Brundage www.chicagobeauty.comBig, bad lashes have been the hallmark of sex appeal since women in the early 1900s began amping up their lashes with homemade concoctions crafted from hot beads of wax. If that sounds dangerous, consider that some women today are opting for Eyelash Transplants. The procedure, which can run upwards of $3,000, is done by harvesting hair from the scalp and implanting it into the lash line. And then there’s eyelash extensions, a semi-permanent treatment that costs $150 to $300 and serves up faux, fluttery lashes that can last up to three months… sans the use of mascara. But for the vast majority of women, mascara is still the quickest and cheapest way to achieve ooh-la-la lashes for day-to-day beauty. Unfortunately, all mascaras were not created equal. So I put mascaras to the test, trying over 30 varieties in my search for the best of the best. Along the way, I found a few that no woman should shell out her hard earned cash for and a few that stood out as stunningly effective, regardless of price.Any woman who has ever opened a tube of the lash enhancing stuff knows that, when it comes to mascara, first impressions are not always accurate. I tested each mascara for no less than three solid days of wear and tear. And just as I suspected, some grew better with age while others proved not to have what it takes in the long run.Love it: Boots No7 Mascara Available in a variety of formulas from Maximum Volume to Sensitive to Water Proof, I was impressed with the entire Boots No7 Mascara Collection. Affordably priced at about $7 to $9 and available locally at Target stores and online at Target.com, Boots No7 Mascaras serve up wearability, staying power and ease of use in black, brown or navy hues. Leave it: Volume Couture by Max Factor At about seven bucks, the price is right for Max Factor’s Volume Couture Mascara. Touted as the Official Mascara of Milan Fashion Week, the product is said to serve up “extreme volume without clumping.” At first application, this promise seemed true; my lashes were instantly long, dark and defined. Unfortunately, Max Factor’s Volume Couture Mascara ultimately failed me by flaking off throughout the day, leaving my lower eyelids dusted with black bits of mascara. Unless your style icon is a raccoon, leave this one at the counter.Love it: Lights, Camera, Lashes! by Tarte Cosmetics Hands down, this mascara beats the competition. Promising movie-star worthy lashes, Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes! came through, delivering long and lush lashes that did not flake. In fact, at my monthly facial the esthetician even commented on how fabulous my lashes were. “It’s not my lashes, it’s the mascara,” I replied. She laughed and then proceeded to take off my eye makeup before commenting, “Wow! You’re right. What mascara do you use?” Lights, Camera, Lashes! by Tarte Cosmetics; $18 at tartecosmetics.com. Leave it: Intense I-Color Lengthening Mascara from AlmayI’ve tested my fair share of beauty products, and while I’m not a professional makeup artist, I’ve been applying mascara since I was ten years old. That said, I consider myself to be at least a semi-professional at applying makeup, especially my own! However, I just couldn’t seem to get Almay’s Intense I-Color Lengthening Mascara on without applying color to both my lashes and upper eyelids. The formula is fine but the thick, bulky applicator is awkward, making precision application impossible, leaving me $7.99 poorer and in need of a good eye makeup remover.

I got loreal's telesopic mascara in carbon black yesterday, the formula is really really dark and my lashes do get longer by quite a lot, but it is a lil bit too runny and i hope the formula is a bit more volumizing

I bought Chanel's Inimitable for the first time a few weeks ago and it's great.
It's one of the best mascaras I've tried.
I'm going to buy it again and again and again...^_^

I have that one too! it's the best mascara I've ever tried!!

Lancome, hands down has the best mascara, imo. I'm currently using hypnose and it's great for adding length. And depending on the number of applications it can go easily from day to night.

I bought Benefit's BADgal Lash and found that it's far superior to DiorShow in terms of making my lashes look fuller. Otherwise, it's similar to DiorShow for me since it doesn't clump, lengthens my lashes, and makes them suitably black (my lashes are naturally so blond they're nearly invisible). I definitely wouldn't use BADgal if I wanted natural looking lashes, though.
