The Mascara Thread

Could anyone advise me?

I have blonde hair, blue eyes and rather pale skin. The area around my eyes is super pale, bordering on transparent, my lashes and brows a dark ash blonde.
No mascara ever looks natural. I tend to use back for some stupid reason, but perhaps it is too harsh? I wear chocolate liner and neutral shadows usually, though.

Could anyone recommend a mascara for such pale eyes? My lashes are quite fine and seem to attract clumps. I would love something that just glides on, separates the lashes nicely and has a silky texture.

You say you use black mascara, but have you ever tried brown mascara ? It's often recommended for natural looks, so it may be worth a try in your case.

I was looking for something similar (natural look, no clumps, seperates lashes nicely, silky texture) and I'm really pleased with Chanel Inimitable. I've posted a review here (and FYI I use it in brown).

MaxFactor mascaras have the best brushes ever. I've tried every single of them and can't decide which one I love the most. I'm currently using the false lash effect, which is pretty good for short asian lashes.

I posted a while ago about different coloured mascaras. More specifically, I am now looking for a good purple or violet colour. One that will still be bright and bold when put onto black eyelashes.

Last time, two people recommended YSL Everlong and Estee Lauder Sumptuous Colour. Estee Lauder was only available in the US. My husband had to go there a while ago on business, so I asked him to see if he could find either one since it's cheaper there than it is here. He couldn't find the Estee Lauder and ended up getting me YSL, but accidentally bought one in black instead of purple/violet. ><

So I went on a search here for a cheaper mascara (since he had already bought me that YSL one). I had heard Benefit Badgal Plum mascara was good. I bought it from the UK since, even though it is made here in France, it was half the price in the UK! Unfortunately, it looks much more colourful on the wand than it does on my eyelashes and doesn't really give me the look I was going for (to make the green in my eyes pop a little). In fact, when I wore it and asked people what colour it was, they thought it was either black or brown. :(

Anyone know if YSL Everlong or Volume Effet Faux Cils in violet is still bright enough on black eyelashes to make the green in my eyes more noticeable? If not, any other recommendations?

Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara.

Definetely the best mascara I had in a while.

So I tried Maybelline's Volum'Express The Falsies mascara the other day. Let me first say that I use Givenchy Phenomen'eyes (probably always will lol) and any other mascara I buy I put on top of that, I love Phenomen'eyes but sometimes I just like for my lashes to be a little bit more fanned out so I put a different kind on top (Diorshow works very well on top of it) but anyway I decided to see how The Falsies would look since the brush looked crazy. (Crazy brushes always intrigue me lol) By itself it SUCKS for me, it clumps like crazy and makes me end up with literally 3 lashes like just 3 giant clumps and doesn't lengthen at all. On top of Phenomen'eyes I really really like it, it fans them out pretty far and does actually give a bit of the fake lash look like it claims. So as a secondary mascara I like it, but absolutely not by itself

I'm on a search for a black glossy mascara. I know everyone raves about Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara but I'm just not attracted to it, I guess it's the packaging and the brush. It just doesn't look 'WOW' lol My favourite mascara is Chanel Inimitable but it's so expensive but I've fallen in love with the natural look it gives anyone.

Hi everyone, it's my first post on this thread, and like many of you, I am always on the search for the perfect mascara. I've been sticking to Dior DioroShow and Diorshow Black Out. Funnily enough I'm a total Chanel make-up addict and have never ever wear their mascara.

Kenysha75, after seeing your pict I'm feeling an urgent need to try the Max Factor false lash effect. :flower:

FrenchCactus, Chanel Inimitable sounds like the perfect mascara to use everyday, I need to try it on… today! :important:D

FrenchCactus, now I know why does it sound like the perfect mascara… because it is!!!!

The end result looks like you have thin, long false lashes, well separated and not in your face at all.

I am in loving it!!!:heart::heart:

Glad you like it

I have the non-waterproof version and on me it has a natural result though (but I naturally have long thick lashes).

Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara.

Definetely the best mascara I had in a while.

Same. I got it as a deluxe sample from Sephora and wasn't expecting too much considering it's somewhat mixed reviews on MUA, but I really do love it. It actually does deliver such a "fanned out" yet voluminous look

What mascara can I buy that will give me natural looking eyelashes? Not like the eyelashes in t.v. adverts but the one's that look like I have barely any on..

^ clinique naturally glossy is my choice for natural looking lashes!

My question. I want really dark, thick, volume lashes? Tips? YSL faux cils is the best so far but it doesnt fully satisfy me..

Help?

I would say that with Diorshow blackout you should be able to achieve that effect!!

Chanel Inimitable brought out a newer version a couple of months back which I can't find online, and now they've brought an even newer one out. Both of which didn't work nearly as well as YSL faux cils or singuler, they made my lashes look stubby actually, the difference was astounding between brands. Diorshow is much much better too..

Since you've mentioned Clinique, have you tried their "High Impact" mascara? I think it's pretty good to achieve that look.

Yeah i have. I think it was too clumpy. Also black out was a bit too clumby. How about eyes to kill by armani? any good?

I prefer my black out with a lash comb in comparison to eyes to kill. It's just...nothingy really. It does an okay job, but it's just okay. I'd suggest you try the new 'lash dressing' technique of using two mascaras. I use Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Mascara that gives amazing hold and separation and curl, and then black out or YSL Faux Cils with a lash comb afterwards. Impact lashes!

I second this, I do this every day. There's just no mascara that really checks every box. I always use Givenchy Phenomen'eyes but the mascara I put on top of that varies, sometimes it's Diorshow (very nice combo), right now it's Maybelline's The Falsies

Something very weird happened, I used to hate the Dior Show mascara since it gave me panda eyes, but now it's not doing that anymore, it behaves more like a waterproof mascara even tho it's not..it's impossible to get it off with water alone..
