The Most You've Ever Spent On A Single Item?

Well that is true, the company does provide me with a digital camera whenever I go on a buy trip...and as previously mentioned who really cares if I do actually own these things or not? and do you people take immense pleasure in accusing me of lying?? because it really seems like it to me...I would go on but I've got much better things to do and feel free to say or think whatever about me, I don't care at all

Oh, you're so sad. It must be hard that you can't even find acceptance in your little ridiculously overdressed online fantasy world. :flower:

i consider all these to be investment pieces:

clothing:
$850 - narciso rodriguez skirt suit on sale at barneys warehouse sale

shoes:
$795 - jimmy choo knee high boots

bag:
$995 - marc jacobs stella and lv damier vernis caberet bag like this one

edited to add: i spent $3200 on my wedding dress...vera wang, but since i only wore it once...

i'd say those were all pretty good investments...aside from the stella which has unfortunately become as common as a bag from the gap now...if not more so... :ninja:

otherwise i heartily approve...not that you asked for or need my approval... :P  :flower:

i would just like to point out that we have several threads where everyone can indulge in fantasy dressing, shopping, eating, travelling, romance, friendships, jobs, etc...

i'm not against fantasies...just against lying... :ninja:

remember...in my fantasies i am the editor in chief of italian vogue... ;)
although that may be changing...
:flower:

maybe we should create a thread where we can all take on alter egos and create little fantasy lives for ourselves......>?!!?!... :woot: we can pretend we're going to dinner with karl and nicole and pick out what to wear and who to sit next to and who to bring as a date...
i mean that could be fun...but i wouldn't pretend it was actually true if it wasn't...

and i'd still want to talk to people if they were just staying home and eating leftovers...

:P

and wearing a stained oversized t-shirt!

I think it's great to have both elements in one's life. I'm sure even Karl Lagerfeld lounges around in his underpants on a Sunday morning. But when people try to create this infallible I-wipe-my-behind-with-a-Frette-washcloth personality. . . it annoys me.

lying in general annoys me... ^_^
epsecially when it's so obvious...

what am i supposed to do...pretend i'm stupid and don't notice???...

Hey we'll never know who's being honest and who isn't so lets not waste energy worrying about it. B) Let just enjoy talking about fashion.

My purchase? Some Dolce and Gabanna motorcycle boots for £495, last winter. I still love them - phew!
I've bought a few bits here and there around the £300 mark but I don't make a habit of it. Generally accessories as they add to an outfit IMO.

I got a belt in Selfridges last year that was £160 but it is beautiful.
My new rule (to make me feel less guilty) is that I am allowed to buy expensive clothing ONLY from my eBay profits (I buy and sell vintage).

The reason for the guilt? Last year my partner and I started our own business so I can't be as free and easy with money - my eBay is my clothes spending money and I feel that way it doesn't impact on my other business. If I buy expensive clothes -I'm spending our money and it doesn't feel right, especially because my partner spends practically nothing on clothes.

I would love a Chloe bracelet bag, but thats a hell of alot of ebaying and I don't really have a use for smart handbags (so I don't own any) as I don't have the kind of lifestyle that demands I carry one (I work from home, for a start).

i don't see the point really. and when it is obvious, you just look like a fool.

I think the most expensive thing that I have bought for myself, things my folks or boyfriend have bought me does not count, is a sweater from a store called AZARA for $300.00.

It is a pink coloured sweater with a big poofy neck that comes off with safety pins attach at the neck through these metal holes. And the sleeves are knit the same way as the neck.

The minute I left the store I threw away the reciept and the tags because I knew if I went home and thought about the purchase I would probably return the sweater.

LOL@the chanel_girl fiasco.

Exactly, softie!!!   I mean, that's the reason why I expressed my doubts in the first place.I don't want to be taken for a fool, even if in the virtual world. At least if I'm going to envy someone's wardrobe, I want to know that it's a real wardrobe!!

I don't know what my most expensive purchase is, but I really only spend on accesories (probably all under $1500) and shoes (mostly under $500, some boots were more). I have a limited amount of designer clothes, and the rest of my stuff is very casual stuff, I wear jeans everyday (most of my jeans are between $125 and $250). I am also in the process of selling off some of my bags (I have made my final decision that many of the MJs must go), and am putting that money into the bank until I find something I really love.

we've heard that one before mj.... :innocent:

I´ve been reading this tread and there is one thing i don´t understand....

Why do you all think Chanel girl is lying? Because she says she owns haute couture? If i had the money couldn´t i owe that? Just asking this because i don´t know how impossible that is.

Besides that, in case it isn´t impossible, i thing anyone whom ever posted in this tread could be lying, no?! This is internet, as someone said....

:)

the most i've ever spend on a single item is on bags. either a dark brown mulberry piccadilly bag or a brown vuitton cherry blossom papillon. they were both around $1000
