The Nature of Fashion : the connections between biology and fashion

generally I prefer that it's not too literal.
of course, even if it's just literal and looks like it was born directly of nature, it can be super fun, but it can also be what plato would call "the shadow of a shadow".
I like it best when I can understand designers let their internal eyes cook the ingredients of nature a little bit further.
in that sense, the dragonfly collection from S/S 04 by helmut lang was really beautifully done, just in my opinion.

helmut is HELMUT, I agree with your opinion

yes, but sometimes it seems designers are not so literal just because they couldn't immitate the nature in their designs not because it's intentional hehe :P

wow...
i don't remember this at all...
this makes me think that i really need to go back and look at some older helmut lang stuff again to refresh my memory...

i definitely see the connection there though!
beautiful!...

re- the comme des garcons collection...
i thought it was like a soccer ball...
frankly, i prefer the honey comb though...
:p

yes, great how you find these, runner as well! not just what is shown, but even the photos themselves do greatly correspond!

softgrey, soccer ball can be thought of, too. :p
the collection has a strong geometric, industrial aspect and an organic one (how the layers are arranged, some shapes, the hair and some fabrics). these opposites is one thing, that makes it so interesting for me.

fashionfashoff, the scan you posted, it is taken from the book 'universe of fashion: comme des garcons' by france grand.

This IS an amazing thread / topic! I love those brain (or intestine) bags in #36. :p

And the sea creature / McQueen images are breath-taking. WOW! Thanks for posting everyone. Will have to look for more parallels myself.
