overall: don't even bother. :( seventeen has really gone downhill since atoosa took over, which i find puzzling since she did such a good job with cosmogirl. it's all (bad) fashion, celebrities, and idiotic, boring, real-life stories, and none of the great, interesting, important articles it used to have. i'm thinking about cancelling my subscription.

2 out of 10 stars

Exactly!!! I recommend you do cancel it- I did, long ago.

I remember how Seventeen used to be so thick and full of (slightly) interesting people on the cover with whom I would be able to look up to.
Now they have that Laguna Beach reality-tv girl on the cover and with every issue screaming "GET YOUR BEST BODY" and "GET A TINY WAIST" (it was literally in italics on the front cover of the Feb. 05 issue). And now, suddenly every issue is a 'hair' issue. Two months after "Get Your Perfect Hair," it's "The Hair Issue!"

The article(s) are mediocre. The article on which the front cover is based is always large font never exceeding two pages. Those 'embarrassing moments' are not even amusing.

I miss the Seventeen that existed 4 years ago.

ElleGirl and Teen Vogue are by far the best, I think. I'm so disappointed with Seventeen lately, though, and CosmoGirl hasn't been that much better.

seventeen has sucked for so long i'm always surprised that i still flip through the magazine...

Seventeen and CosmoGirl are alright, but they've become kind of streamline, and average-- walk into pretty much any middle class high school and you'd see almost every outfit in it copied. I do like it sometimes though. TeenVogue is definitely the best for more of the high fashion world.

Do you recommend ElleGirl? I like Seventeen/CG because they are more in the normal (read: MY!) price range, meaning middle class. But I'm very into fashion as well. I'm thinking of getting Seventeen/CG/Teen Vogue subscriptions, but what would you suggest?

i definitely recommend ellegirl - i think their fashion eds are very fun. i've posted some on page 3 of this thread. i do enjoy the magazine overall more so than seventeen. i just flip through seventeen when i see it at walgreens or at the school library really. and i'm a big fan of teen vogue as well. one thing that i do when i buy a magazine - i rip out pages of fashion i like and save them. i never see anything i want to save in seventeen

Other:
"What is Beauty?" - Survey of teen girls, plus best products.

"The Culture of Rich" - Teens spending more money.

"Quiz Time!" - Pull-out quiz booklet.

Overall: Fashion-wise, it's below ElleGirl and Teen Vogue, but miles-ahead of Seventeen. And kudos to them for being well-rounded and having interesting articles, and having no "Get a Tiny Waist" articles. 5.5 out of 10 stars

CoverGirl (Molly Sims) - 1 pg

"Scents & Sensibility" Ph. Tiziano Magni - New fragrances, and their inspirations. Includes Ralph Hot, Burberry London, Lacoste Touch of Sun, Armani Code, In Control Curious Britney Spears. This ed isn't too bad either.

"Dear Mom, ..." Ph. Colette DeBarros - Ed of cute little red-headed girl, who was the winner of Seventeen's Reader Model Contest. Pretty cute.
