she might not have always secretly loved pete the entire time he and kate were dating, she probably wasnt sitting there sighing with unrequited love the entireeee time, just pretending to be friends with kate. maybe she didnt even know how she felt ! just like every other girl on the planet when it comes to love.

Oh of course, out of the sudden, two months after they break up, she discovers that she's in love with Pete and they get engaged. I bet it totally took her by surprise.

whats the big fuss... poor girl. people should be able to date whoever they want, especially if they are single! its still not backstabbing
imagine how bad you'd feel watching someone you loved with someone else anyway... she deserves to be happy (if thats what this will bring...). everyone should jump at the chance to be with who they love, even if its your ex, or your friends ex. people will get over it if its real love.
