Bad company: Amy Winehouse, seen last night, aroused suspicion after she was seen packing up her belongings - including a bag containing mystery white substance - and received a 4am visit from rocker Pete Doherty

Enough said, they were making music but we know Pete can't resist....

Police re-open probe into balcony death of actor at Pete Doherty party
Last updated at 15:24pm on 4th December 2007

Senior detectives have been called in to re-investigate the death of an actor who fell off a balcony at a party attended by Pete Doherty.

Mark Blanco, 30, was killed a year ago and at the time police concluded there were no suspicious circumstances.

But Blanco's family spent the past year compiling a dossier they hope will prove he was the victim of violence.

Now the case has been assigned to the homicide and specialist crime review group, which may re-interview Doherty over new forensic evidence.

Mark Blanco, an aspiring actor, was found dying on a London street with massive head injuries - minutes after having a confrontation with the Babyshambles singer.

His injuries were apparently caused by landing on the pavement from a 30ft balcony and the initial police investigation concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances.

But now, a year after his death, police have launched a new murder-style inquiry into how the 30-year-old died.

Mark's mother Sheila, a music tacher lecturer in her early sixties, has put together a dossier after working on the case every day since her son died.

She has visited the scene of Mark's death and interviewed residents and witnesses.

She has also spent £20,000 on her own inquiries and is now convinced that her beloved son was the victim of violence.

Sheila, who lives in a semi-detached house in Guildford, Surrey, has a photo of her son in intensive care - in which he appears to have a badly-bruised right eye.

But she says that the injuries Mark received in the fall were to the back of his head.

She said: "He'd been punched."

The mystery revolves around who punched him.

Sheila added: "Whatever happened in that flat is crucial to the truth about the death of my son."

She visited the third-floor flat where the party was hosted by Paul Roundhill, who has been desribed as Doherty's literary agent.

Mark knew Roundhill and visited the flat to try to pursuade Doherty to come to the opening of his play at the nearby George Tavern.

Doherty was there with his friend and minder Johnny "Headlock" Jeannevol. There were also three women in the flat, including Doherty's companion 19-year-old Kate Russell-Parvier.

Accounts of what happened vary, but it appears that Mark tried to get Doherty to promise to see the play, at one point holding him against a wall, arms outstretched either side of the singer.

Minutes later, Mark was on the pavement in the street below and fatally injured.

Sheila described the flat: "It's a horrible place. There was a dog in a cage, cigarette ends lying around everywhere.

"I asked Roundhill to tell me what happened. He said Mark's behaviour was over the top, pinning Doherty against a wall. He said he (Roundhill) pushed Mark outside, punching him three times."

But this account is at odds with the version provided by one of the women at the party, textile designer Annabel Healdsmith. She claimed Roundhill, Johnny Headlock and Doherty all went outside together with Mark. The three returned but Mark did not.

And some of Mark's friends doubt Roundhill's claim that it was he who punched Mark.

One said: "Roundhill is puny and constantly out of it. Mark was 6ft 4in tall and well built."

Sheila interviewed everyone she could find in Roundhill's building. One witness told her he heard shouting and swearing and the sounds of a scuffle, then the thud of Mark's body hitting the pavement.

This witness is sure there was more than one person shouting, suggesting a row was in progress.

Paul Ellis, who lives nearby, tried to help Mark before the ambulance crew arrived.

He gave the following statement to Mark's mother: "At about 12.30 I heard shouting and general noise coming from the flat opposite and I didn't pay much attention to it as it is quite normal for a Saturday night.

"I looked out of my window and saw Mark lying along the gutter and a dark-haired girl screaming and a girl with blonde hair nearby.

"I then saw Doherty come down the stairs, stand over Mark for a few seconds and then run back up the stairs.

"I realised that this was pretty serious and as I have some basic first-aid training and was pretty sure no one outside would have a clue, I decided to go and do what I could."

Mr Ellis checked Mark's breathing. There was no smell of alcohol.

"After covering him with my cardigan and jacket, I knelt next to him for what felt like an eternity but was probably about 15 minutes. I was told an ambulance had been called. Roundhill was present at this time; he was talking on his mobile phone in the street and the stairwell.

"Three summers ago a young woman climbed out of Roundhill's window on to the roof. She started to dance, obviously high on drugs, and fell into the street in full view of children playing. She survived."

Roundhill took Mark a gin and tonic at one point, apparently in an attempt to revive him. Then he threw tissues into the street from the balcony, to mop up the blood.

A post mortem showed Mark had not been drunk or high on drugs.

Sheila's chronology shows that a woman from Roundhill's flat ran down to check Mark at 12.39am.

Shortly after this, a CCTV camera mounted nearby shows Doherty, holding hands with Kate Russell-Parvier, running past Mark's inert body.

"He didn't stop to see whether he could help, or even check on how bad Mark's injuries were. He seemed intent on getting away from there," Sheila said.

The CCTV also shows Mark's blurred shape falling to the ground, but this footage does not show where, or how, his plunge to the street began.

At 12.45, Johnny Headlock called the ambulance service. For reasons as yet unexplained, a transcript of the call reveals he pretended Mark was a stranger whom he and his friends did not know. After the ambulance calltaker asked what happened, he replied: "We don't know, we don't know."

Call-taker: "You're not sure what happened?"

Johnny Headlock: "We don't know. We don't even know him. We don't even know him."

He went on to say he walked out of a friend's house and simply saw a man lying on the ground.

He was to change this version three weeks later. On Christmas Day, he walked into Bethnal Green police station and confessed to killing Mark Blanco.

He was locked up, retracted his confession and was allowed to go. He stuck to one part of his story, however. He confirmed Doherty asked him to "have a word" with Mark.

Yet the detectives who undertook the first investigation seemed determined to conclude Mark's death was an accident, or even suicide, Sheila said. "It flew in the face of all logic," she said.

"They seemed to be saying he jumped off the balcony to try to climb down a lamppost."

This was dismissed by Andrew Reid, the coroner who held an inquest into Mark's death, as "purely speculation".

He also rejected suggestions Mark may have committed suicide. He ordered the police to re-investigate.

The case was assigned to the Homicide and Specialist Crime Review Group, a team of experts dedicated to cracking hard-to-solve serious crimes. The squad has already collected a large amount of forensic evidence and both Doherty and Johnny Headlock will feature in their inquiries.

"I have nothing against Pete Doherty personally," Sheila said. "But I believe he can help us get to the truth, and that's all I want.

"I have lost a son, but there's more to it than that even. I have been let down by the system that is meant to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. I don't want to say too much about the first police investigation, but in my view it failed. I have to have faith in this new team."

Interview from Jdvision the Blog by JD

I have no idea how to refer to Irina anymore. Gal Pal? Fiancee? Muse? Musician? Model? The possibilities are endless. However it is her latest role as target for the British Press that has her finding solace in her music and wishing no one knew her name at all.

Irina Lazareanu captivated the fashion world with her unique beauty and quirky style and has remained a favorite of such designers as John Galliano and La Lagerfeld himself. In fact, as your reading this, she and buddy Sean Lennon are in London opening Karl's big Chanel blowout, which I'd say is not a bad way to debut your first LP. Highly anticipated LP, I might add, and I am happy to report that it's quite good.

I got a text from my buddy Peter over at Marilyn saying "Guess who's in town?" So knowing how brutal her schedule is I thought I'd pop over for a home cooked meal and see if I could find out what she's been up to as of late. And good thing I did because not only does she serve up a mean plate of lasagna but turns out had a lot to get off her chest.I love Irina. She is a free spirit, a gifted soul and she deserves all the adulation that has come her way because she works her *** off.

So what's up Rini?
JD Ferguson: Where the hell have you been?
Irina Lazareanu: Watching Dirty Dancing and eating lasagna.
JD: What's up girl?
IL: Not much, releasing this single on the 6th , finally, which has been postponed for a couple months because of work. And un-wanted press. (laughs)
JD: Oh my god the ****ing press have been hounding you. What does that feel like?
IL: Uh...hate the ****ers.
JD: So is New York a refuge for you right now?
IL: Well I've just been rehearsing a lot for the gig with Sean, but ya being out of Europe certainly helps.
JD: Oh right, you are opening Karl's show for Chanel in London next week. How did that happen?
IL: He had a copy of our single at a shoot we were doing a couple months ago and he liked it and just asked me if I wanted to sing at his show.
JD: That's fun.
IL: Can I say something else about the press?
JD: Ya girl, you can say whatever you want.
IL: I just don't get why the fact that I'm either getting married or not or divorced three times this week or not is anyone's business. Pete [Doherty] nor I have said anything or made any statements to the press about anything. Especially this week they've just been inventing things constantly, following us around in the country in Wilshire, it's exhausting. And harassing my parents!
JD: Really?
IL: Ya I had to change my parents number twice.
JD: That sucks. Were you ever prepared for any of that? Like I saw you on BBC last week. How weird is that?
IL: It's just so...I don't know, I know it's cliche' to say but there's so much going on in the world right now and harping on meaningless information that feels like it should be no-one else's business. I don't get it.
JD: Well it is cliche', that, but I guess (obviously) no-one can understand that unless it's your life that it's happening to which would just be so surreal. I guess it gives you an appreciation for what people who are stalked by the paparazzi go through and what that actually feels like.IL: It's just crazy that people are running around not only thinking about, but then making stuff up about what I'm doing in my private life?
JD: So how do you ultimately deal with it?
IL: I guess I just throw myself in to my work my music with Sean and try to keep it real.
JD: And modeling? How does your time breakdown between modeling and music now? Are you still crazy busy?
IL: I took some time this season to take care of some personal issues and to spend time with my second half which I never did before and things piled up on me and I really just wanted to write and finish this project.
JD: So has music always been your thing?
IL: Ya always. Since I can remember it's been a huge part of my life.
JD: Have you cut down on bookings at all since I saw you last?
IL: Yes, for the last two months I've done a couple jobs here and there but I'm just really trying to slow down. Sometimes you go so fast and things get away from you and you forget about the important stuff.
JD: But wait so as a teenager in Montreal you fled to Europe to be a model?
IL: No I was studying ballet.
JD: Really?
IL: Ya but you know what everyone's heard this a million times already it's come up in so many interviews. It's funny cause you try not to repeat yourself but it's always the same questions.
JD: Oh no! I don't want to be like one of those little hoards of Japanese people I see backstage shoving a mic in your face asking you ridiculous questions. Actually tell me the list of your top 5 most annoying questions you get, come on you've heard them all...about your iPod and all that **** the same ones over and over, no?
IL: Oh god, ya...your all time favorite shopping places, what your wearing, what do you think about the collection, black is the new white, cut my bangs, feathers, chiffon, stiletto blah blah blah...always the same questions. Want some more lasagna?
JD: So will you do anything fun for yourself after the Chanel gig?
IL: There's a Zeppelin reunion on the 10th I wanna do and then I'll just hang out with Peter and the band.
JD: Do you and Pete hang out and play and sing and write? Like is that a big part of your connection?
IL: Ya I think its pretty much all we ever do.
JD: That's cool.
IL: He started me in the whole music thing.
JD: Did he teach you to play the guitar?
IL: Ya.
JD: Is that Johnny Cash on the wall?
IL: Yes! And June. I'm so proud of it. It's a Jim Marshall, who I love. I got it at Morrison Gallery and I've got a bid on a Bob Dylan over there right now. It's either Dylan with Joan Baez or just Dylan in the East Village in 1963.
JD: What are you listening to these days?
IL: I'm really in to the 80's right now. It's been a hard period lately and I feel like it's uplifting. The 80's feel very light and fun. Like Journey, Boys of Summer, Don Henley...total escape music.
JD: What's Kate up to?
IL: I don't know I hope she's happy. Next question.
JD: Okay, when are you and Pete tying the knot?
IL: LEAVE US ALONE!!
JD: Oh my god your too much. That's why you get hounded cuz you wont tell anybody anything.
IL: I shouldn't have to. I don't ask you about your personal life though you tell me anyways!
JD: Alright let's watch another movie.
IL: I've got Badlands, Sleeping With The Enemy and Happiness.
JD: Happiness? Pervert.
IL: Your the pervert.
