Not sure what topic this goes in because I want it to include shoes, bags, and belts.

What is an accessory that you find to be completely out of price?

It's logical to charge a few thousand for a diamond studded shoe or bag... But what do you think of designers charging thousands for a leather bag?

My choice I think (even though I love the bag) is the Balenciaga Motorcycle bag.

When you think about it, it's just plain leather... why spend 1000+ for it? Even though I know many of you already have. :P Even if I was rich, I don't think I'd ever pay that much for a bag.

What do you all think? What are your choices? Post pics if you can.

The Balenciaga bags are quite overpriced, but if I had the money, I would buy one. I absolutely adore them.

Judith Leiber's bags came first to mind when I read the title of the topic. Most of them are god awful and so expensive

i also think dooney and bourke and coach don't fit their price...i just think they make sh*t bags...oh yea, also those horrible juicy couture bags

Yep, no designer piece is priced right. Maybe if the Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag was constructed completely from crocodile and gold and diamonds, but even then it's probably overpriced. I don't think most people here have the slightest clue what the actual value of designer pieces are.

Handbags are probably the worst. "High end" jeans are right up there with 'em. $300 sheets of denim don't exist. $50 sheets of denim don't exist (that I know of). You see where I'm going with this.

I've had to do cost sheets for some of the bags that I've made...

Some of them have cost 12 bucks for materials and 30 for labor...

Some of them have cost 80 bucks for materials and 100 bucks for labor.

So I know how some bags can be priced but there is no way that a calfskin leather bag with a few zippers here and there can make out to be 1000+ dollars. Unless they're paying their factory workers 500 dollars an hour.

It's interesting that you say that luna because I've always wondered how much it really cost to make something, and then how much the consumer gets charged above that!

I definitely have to agree with the Juicy Couture handbags...Regardless of their material and shape, I associate "Juicy Couture" with tracksuits, and I just can't make the leap from that to $500 bags.

This isn't exactly an accessory, but - plain tshirts that cost $50 and up. I hate that kind of pricing! hateit hateit hateit...

Yes. My friend works for Liz Claiborne which owns Juicy Couture's handbag line. She gets bags for like 30 bucks at sample sales. While I do find most of them horribly tacky,s he always seems to pick out fun ones. I'm having her get me one from the next sample sale. Hell, if I find it cute and it's a huuuuuge markdown to 30 dollars, why the heck not.

hahahaha, thats what i said...

It just occurred to me...

Remember, designers buy materials wholesale. Luna, I'm guessing you don't buy your materials wholesale? If not, then I guess it would cost designers half or less than half of what it costs for you to make a comparable bag, right?

Thought I'd bring this back...

There are lots of bags I see out there to be completely overpriced...

There's this MJ hobo with a tassel.. (Scarlet bag) or something... it's over 1000 dollars! for a hobo..

Wait till that crap goes on sale

Prada nylon...

And how a Chanel palm-sized freaking woolen pouch costs 1,500 dollars I dont know...
