Alvy Singer: You, you, you're like New York, Jewish, left-wing, liberal, intellectual, Central Park West, Brandeis University, the socialist summer camps and the, the father with the Ben Shahn drawings, right, and the really, y'know, strike-oriented kind of, red diaper, stop me before I make a complete imbecile of myself.
Allison: No, that was wonderful. I love being reduced to a cultural stereotype.

Men's Fashion: Scenester!

The Scenester
[from a guy's perspective]

Just thought I'd start off by saying I'm relatively new to the site (first post),
But I have been reading a multitude of threads to keep up.

Anyways, I know there is a Scene Queens thread, but I'd like to focus on the Men's side of the Scene.

Anyways, I would like to start off by saying that I'm focusing purely on the fashion stand point of this trend.

It's a trend like any others, I know scenesters get a lot of bad rep, but I'm curious about getting some more "informed" opinions.

I myself associate my fashion sense from the scene and am proud of it.
Being only 17, its hard to find a group of people (in my community) who are as interested in fashion as I am.

Anyways, key elements that I see represented in the more fashion-friendly scenesters are:

>> Designer Jeans [usually girl jeans]

- Give a very fitted look and blend well with slim figure of the rest of the outfit.
- Usually Seven for All Mankinds or R&Rs work well (for the well-off scenester)
- Many only wear skinny jeans with zero flare or boot-cut, however my personal preference is boot cut in order to fit over my Adidas comfortably.
- Yes it is weird going into a department store and searching for girl jeans, but most employees seem to jump on scenesters because usually they'll end up buying a few pairs.

>> Tops

- Most commonly local hardcore or indie band t-shirts are worn, sometimes to show taste in music or others just because they have a nice print or design.
- Very very fitted. I actually wear youth-Ls because my frame is so small.
- Now becoming more popular are short sleeve polos (R.L. + Lacoste) and baseball 3/4 sleeved shirts.
- Also, for dressier occasions, a tight fitting dress shirt preferably black or some dark base color can work well provided the scenester doesn't dress down his jeans or shoes too much.
- Track jackets are extremely popular, and work well due to their tighter fit. Adidas is preferred by most I know.
- Also, fur lined hooded jackets work extremely well, complimenting their "scene hair"

>> Accessories

- This is where A LARGE MAJORITY of scene kids mess up. Seriously.
- By mess up I mean have WAY too many ugly or over-the-top accessories.
- For a clean look most choose a pure white belt with an intricate buckle, or a studded one.
- White belts compliment track jackets well (preferably white/black ones), and also work well with soccer shoes by Puma and Adidas.
- Rule of thumb - "If you like piercings, great. But PLEASE DON'T OVER DO IT."
- Earrings are a no-no for me and most well dressed scenesters I see, plugs look horrible in my opinion.

I'll write more later, please let me know your opinion on the trend.

I really agree with the points that were made on this post. About the whole over-the-top accessories and piercings thing, though, I would put those going into that sort of thing into a different category or scene. I'm beginning to think that maybe the title of this thread is quite specific - street scene. The style of having bright coloured hair, accessories, etc, would probably be more fitted to scene queen.

Omg did I post this in this thread??
Ooops well I meant to make an entirely different thread.

But it might have gotten moved, but I wasn't exactly talking about Scene Street style.

Someone let me know if I can repost as its own topic.
It was like really late and I was tired so I could've messed up.

Thanks

^ Reminds me of what's-his-name... the guy from The Devil Wears Prada :D
Adrian Grenier? Yes! They do look alike, both sexy.

Here are some more pictures of Hanna Beth from this buzznet website. I feel a little ashamed for some reason looking at her pictures. It's kind of like looking at pictures of Corey Kennedy. Your not proud of it but you do it anyway.

^ Eur. A little OTT, there. Like I said, I think that's more Scene Queen than Street Scene.

that first pic of post 3712...shivers

love the first girl's bag from post 3703

I want to throw a party and the theme shall be: Be the most affected, unoriginal dresser here. Everyone will show up looking like this thread. OH DISS!!!

haha we are all scenesters here in scandinavia... ;D
if you compare those kids to the normal finns, they are representing pretty much the hipster/scenester style here.. other than that we only got the emos left..and i dont think anyone wants those pics here.
