The tFS Book Club (please see rules/guidelines in post #1)

Okay I have decided to chose the first book and once we have finished then I will let someone else chose then they will pick someone else and so it continues.. so everyone will have a go! I'm so glad that I have got such a great response from everyone, thanks  and thankyou Alvedansen for the site.

We will start reading on monday to make it fair for everyone and give you enough time to get the book and then all talk about it two weeks from monday? Will that be enough time for everyone? The book is: Anthropology of an American Girl by Hilary Thayer Hamann I hope its okay for everyone, let me know.

ooh I know im a little late, but count me in (if thats ok, dont post as much any more but off work sick atm so im sure ill be on here loads) I want to get back into reading again and im sure this will be the perfect way to ease me back into it, sounds a good idea, hopefully I can pick it up asap

I think I'd have to pass this week because I can't find the book in my library or online haha.

I think we should have some kind of a theme. Like firts classics and then modern crime or whatever?

I agree about that theme thing. theme would be good!

and maybe we should take that unbearable lightnings of being.
I already found it from my bookstore
:woot:

It is so hard to decide first book.
Theme might make it easier.
Anyway, whatever book is fine with me.

I'm in! Great to see such enthusiasm so quickly. Thanks for the thread stannerslove.

Another vote from me for the Unbearable Lightness of Being -- great novel, and as someone pointed out it's easy to find AND in any language which is an important factor considering that TFSers are from all over the world. I realize that everyone who posts on her has a good grasp on the English language, but they may prefer and feel more comfortable reading something that is written in their first language.

Exactly! Actually, I don't mind reading in English but it's always nicer to read in your own language. ^_^

True... we do need to find a title that is available in most languages from around the world to be sure that tfs-ers are able to get their hands on a copy. I know for sure that The Unbearable Lightness of Being has been translated many times and was also turned into a movie.

It is only fair to let stannerslove choose the first book as this is her idea. :flower:

Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions as to how we'll pick the future titles of the books we read? I think the person who chooses the title should be allowed to designate how many chapters a day/week we read. Depending on length, we all should be allotted 1-2 weeks to finish a book. And of course, all discussion will be made in white writing.

Okay to make it easier for people with multiple languages then we will start reading Unbearable Lightness of Being ^_^

So basically whenever we read, let's say, a few chapters we sit down and discuss them, right? Sorry, I've never been in an actual book club, lol. Sounds like fun!

Lovely! I am very excited to read it. Thank you, stannerslove. This was a WONDERFUL thread idea.

The book has 7 parts. My copy averages about 46 pages for each part.

I guess we can hope that everyone has a copy by Monday (August 9), and hopefully the book will be finished in at least a week and a half (August 17/18). To make it easy, we each read a section a day: August 9th is Part 1, August 10th is Part 2, etc.

I wonder when we would discuss the sections we read. Say, we read Part 1 on August 9, would we read it that day and discuss it the next day or the day of reading it? Any ideas/suggestions? :flower:

Good stuff im gonna try hunt down this book asap so I can join in.. such a good idea for a thread :flower:

Everyone should be able to find used copies for at least 1$ anywhere. I bought my copy on half.com for only a few pennies plus shipping chargers. Definitely less than 3$ total. ^_^

found it in my parents bookshelf

i always loved the title of the book...so we're starting it on monday?
but maybe we should say 2 days for each part? i guess for some people 40-50 pages a day can be a little much and we have more time to discuss each part. and i think 2 weeks for one book isn't too long...but i don't know, I've never been in a book club and i have the summer off, so i have enough time to read, i was just thinking about people who need to work all day

That's not a bad idea: 2 days for 1 part. I'm down! B)
Maybe we'll vote on a majority rule: whatever suggestions people share with the thread we can use to come up with a plan of attack.

We will go with papa_levante's idea:

I absolutely love this idea! it will be so great to have such different opinions of the books from people from all over the world!

I'll be ordering my copy today :D

So...
