This is what I understood: The moon/sun curse was sealed with Petrova blood, the first Petrova girl with Katarina/Elena likeness. A "fail safe" was implemented that a doppelgänger of that girl will be born and with her blood the curse could be broken. That´s why Klaus wanted to sacrifice Katarina and that´s why he´s coming after Elena. In order to break the curse you need Petrova´s blood (Elena), a witch (Bonnie), a vampire (that´s why Katherine turned Caroline), a werewolf (because Mason was killed, Katherine tricked Tyler) and the moonstone. If vampires break the curse then werewolves will forever be bound by it and viceversa.
Katarina had a child that was taken from her, from this blood line comes Elena.

i knooow!^^i think we all hate the breaks, although, on the bright side, this season's break will be shorter than last seasons 2 month hiatus. that was utter death.... BTW, i googled a spoiler into which cliffhanger they will leave us with on that december 2nd episode before the month-long break...
apparently just before the end of that episode, damon will tell tyler what REALLY happened to mason... on what,by convenient coincidence, will happen to fall on the night of a full moon. so NOW obviously, tyler will become enraged and transform into a werewolf, biting damon... the cliffhanger being leaving us on the edge, wondering if damon will survive, seeing as how this whole season it's been repeated that a werewolves bite is fatal to vampires.

I would like to think that they are filming since I'm fairly sure they don't film very far in advance. Then editing, adding special effects, and all that jazz.

Though the breaks seem to be more frequent since the writers strike. :whistle:

It´s not just CW, every network have breaks. And not since the strike, I´ve been watching tv shows since I was a teen and it´s always been like that.
For what I gathered, they have breaks during major holidays cause nobody will be watching tv, e.g. thanksgiving, christmas, new year´s eve. Also during big events like the super bowl. Networks broadcast their tv shows from October until June, that´s 36 weeks (give or take). For a show to never have re-runs they should air 36 episodes. You can see the problem, tv shows only have 22-25 episodes.

Latest episode hmm kind of lacklustre.. I was expecting more after waiting all that time! January episode has to be very good or else!

Found it somehow hilarious Jeremy coming home putting a big band-aid on Katherine's bite.. Didn't even wash the wound! I think when they show vampire bites, it's usually two holes. Actually I can't really explain why I was amused.
