Okay, sorry I'm not an artist. The design at the bottom is supposed to be two birds.

Ok the new challenge is:

I want to see a garden party dress for an editorial.
The catch is, you have a limited pallette.

The colors in this picture are the only colors you get to use. you can use different shades of the same color, but try to stick as close as possible.

If you want, explain the fabrics and reasoning behind the design, you will definitely score brownie points if you do. You can also say what model, photographer, magazine etc.

I want it to have a background, as if it were an actual picture, kinda like the last challenge we did.

Remember, it's a garden party, so it should be fun, but functional.

The deadline is April 28th.

This is my entry. It's a soft tunic long sleeved dress made of linen. It is simply pulled over the head and belted at the waist with a grosgrain belt. There are practical pockets big enough for pruning scissors or a paperback book. It is worn over a simple chemise with a lace detailing. The sunhat is braided straw with a matching grosgrain ribbon.

The rationale is the outfit should protect from the sun and still feel cool. It should look good rumpled and is meant to be effortlessly casual and with a bit of imperfection and a touch of lingerie for romance. To be worn with sleeves rolled up, dirt under the fingernails, with comfortable carelessness.

The model is Bette Franke.

Gosh I missed this! I remember when we started this game... ^_^

wow1 all of these entries are excellent!

Im afraid mty internet at home is not working so i dont think i will be able to dothis one. I dont know, maybe I can use my sisters computer...we will see.

Great entries everyone!

Mine'll be in at some point tomorrow. I'm trying to get a better way to scan it. (AKA-not just taking a picture)

Ok As soon as yours is in ilaughhead, I will do my reviews. Don't keep me waiting for I might forget!

Sorry for the wait! TFS was down for me early this morning. (That's obviously when I would post it, right?:ninja:)

So here it is:

(Click for a larger picture)

The photographer is Karl Lagerfeld because he can take a traditional, commercial picture. Du Juan is the model. The picture would be taken at dawn in Northern Africa, probably Marrakech, Morocco.

I chose to make the dress very ethnic-inspired. It has a simple dropped shoulder and exaggerated batwing sleeves. Du is also wearing a turban to keep in the theme. The fabric is something very functional and smooth, like bamboo or silk.

Thanks again for waiting!

i sure do hope i am not too late. well, here's my entry.

just a simple dress... easy to move in, so that during the party, you can go around the garden feeling wonderful and fresh. There are also hidden pockets on the front so you can hide some flowers you picked (well, you wouldn't want the owners to know you picked some of their prized roases, do you? lol) or maybe a little book (when you're bored) or a couple of gummy bears (for snack while walking in the garden.) Well, did my best to explain my dress... I'm not really a person with so many words. So I hope my drawing is enough. :flower:

Why do you all make it so difficult to pick a winner!?!

Couturex-
I like the bird detail you used very much.
I would have liked it if you had described
the dress a little bit more though,
because the picture itself doesn't show
alot of detail.
I like the clean lines though, and the white really
accents those lines, even if white isn't really
practical for a garden party where there is dirt. :D

FinalFashion-
Beautiful illustration.
It does looks quite a bit like Bette.
It reminds me alot of a dress from
the movie "An Affair to Remember" I don't know
if you have seen that or if it was intentional though.
I love the casual elegance, and the functionality.
I appreciate all the description you added also.
The only thing is I had the feeling, when reading this,
that this dress was meant more for working in the
garden, then for a garden party.

La bordelique-
I really like this. You described it very well, and
illistrated it quite nicely, it looks very similar to
Irina. :)
You draped the fabric so beautifully and the color
is so deep and rich. The leaf accents are a great detail
also.

ilaughhead-
I really like the feeling of this dress. It looks so
comfortable and I can definitely see it in an ethnic
garden. I just want to climb right into it! :D
I like that you kept the theme with the Turban.
You decribed your design perfectly, and your choice of
model is supurb!

Leeyone-
This is beautiful. I can definitely see this at a
garden party. I love that you added hidden pockets,
i love hidden pockets in skirts. The flower-shaped
bow in the front is the perfect touch, it completes
the package.
Your illustration is lovely also.

Well I must choose now. You all rose to the challenge, and made it increasingly difficult with each new entry.

It comes down to
La bordelique and Leeyone, you two get to play rock paper scissors to decide the winner.

Nah, I wouldn't do that to you. ;)
The winner is Leeyone. Congrats and I can't wait for your challenge!

Thank you so much for your critique, dbear! And congrats Leeyone! I can't wait for your challenge!:flower:

You're more than welcome. I'm just glad you were able to put an entry in! :D
