Thom Browne Menswear

Thom Browne is not contrived, actually it is only slightly more snug and slightly shorter pants than very old-school Italian collections like Kiton, Borrelli. Or Pisano
Check the photos at The Sartorialist http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/

Kiton

Borrelli

Pisano

Maybe those Italians are hipper than we give them credit for.

Thom’s construction is very well done and he has created a truly individual look.

He may or may not be around long but that has to do more with the difficulty of being a young designer for either women or men.

Yawn. Preppy cashmere sweaters and club jackets with different cuts? What is this, Brooks Brothers chic?

Does anyone know where in Los Angeles, besides Fred Sega/Ron Herman on Melrose, where they carry Thom Browne?

Have to say I agree Faust, seen his stuff in real life and most it is nothing special. Much rather get a Spencer Hart or Kilgour.

my 2 cents... I like the look very much. I must say I've only seen them in pictures. To me they don't look too conservative, the short pants makes them seem like they are thumbing their nose at conservatism (and winter, brr cold ankles). Besides I think that things that are very symetrical, well fitting, with no special characteristics are too boring. ie ricky martin vs. iggy pop (as an extreme example)

I see this kid that works for Thom around the city and he is really cool looking in his version of the TB look. He MODS it out a little and reminds me of those cool English cats in the Sixties (Teddy bOys is it? ).

I also know why his suits costs so much. Most is still done in Brooklyn at one of the last tailors arund that do most of the new york designers suits. Most or much is is still hand tailored, and I think It cost around $900 just for them to be made by the guy, not including fabrics.

I dont care what the story is behind his suits...They look s****y and inproportionate w/ those croped pants...Just another NYC label that I just dont "get"...

anyone know where i can buy these? i think they are thom browne, judging by the pants.

Preach.

I went and tried on a whole bunch of his crap at Bergdorfs, wow. The cuts are crazy and unflattering, the prices are sky high...It's another Lanvin Homme. Also, it's too flashy, I tried on this plaid coat (3 really high buttons like a womans coat) the dual vent started at the middle of my back (friggin CRAZY), the the vent openings were taped w/ his red, white&blue ribbon, so it would flutter and everyone would know how much I dropped on this coat.

The video looks like high class erotica for gay men with a fetish for buggery in the Cambridge dorms. (The bestiality angle is a bit off, but whatever floats your goat I guess.)

What the fvck is that dumb video? Thom is very right now designer, he'll be over in a few years.

See the thing is...his die hards are what keeps him alive and have adopted it almost like lifestyle brand from Polor or A&F or (while not a lifestyle brand, does have very brainwashed customers) Dior Homme. I wouldn't say there are even enough customers out there to call it a "right now" brand.
However, his collaboration with Brooks Brothers is going to give him much wider exposure; but, there will be the rift between Thom Brown and TB for BB.

I posted it in a Thom Browne thread when you specifically mentioned red/white/blue ribbon that is used in some of the suit trim....so yah...I think it is pretty relevant in this thread.

^ But you post it SO MUCH, Ive seen it like 10 times. I never said it wasn't relevant

simmer gentelmen....

personally I think he has staying power because, like etro said, he has a die hard core following (similar to Dior Homme, which is far more of the moment in styling and crap quality and still seems to do well every season). I like the idea of the line, if I wore suits I would probably like to own one of his, but since I don't...

I think I've posted it whenever I've worn the jacket...which in the past maybe 3 months has been less than 5x.
And it isn't like the surgeon cuffs are big deal...you can get them on $300 blazers. I took the picture becuase of the red/white/blue.
