Thom Browne Menswear

Does anyone have infos concerning the high white socks with red and blue stripes? It's from SS 07. I'd like to know what's the fabric, and the price - tell me it's not 500 usd  .

They had them at BG but sold out...they were cotton and I didn't get the price; but, I would say around $350 (the above the ankle navy ones with a white pom pom are $160). I'm going to Barneys today and will see...there is also the chance they were done in cashmere as well since there is also a cashmere navy singlet and waffle knit boxers.

Something I picked up yesterday:

Thx! I'll call Colette and will wask them if they stocked it (and if they still have them...). If you see them at Barney's and have more infos pls tell me
(I wonder if they also produced the panama hats?)

Report of Barneys: Horrible. They didn't have any cashmere, just the 3 cotton polos. They have the denim suit and then some other random oddball pieces. Only thing of interest is the double breasted glenplaid suit that for $3990 will still be around once it goes 40% off in a month.

I could see Colette having socks and armbands and other things which thus far seem to be pretty much available only through the Tribeca studio.

Your cardigan is fantastic.
I've asked a friend to see the socks (I can't them out of my head). I also have to put an eye on the shorts he presented during SS 07 too...
(God I love Thom Browne! So sad these designers are usually only sold by Colette, which only stocks a very few pieces!)

(Oh Oh and I just noticed Yoox was stocking Browne! Actually there only a few pieces, nothing interesting for men, but a 350 eur (????) cashmere (??????) sweater for woman, and another cashmere cardigan at a more "normal" price (1200 eur). Maybe they'll be stocking more pieces from FW 06-07

That's wierd...I wonder who sells off their TB to them.

There are lots of good shorts for spring. Grey wool, ivory jute, white pique, dark blue seersucker, charcoal pink glenplaid.

i like Thom Browne, there's a video made by Anthony Goicolea on TB's site for the presentation of his collection.sorry if the info has already been posted

For what it's worth, last night I got to meet and briefly chat with Anthony at the opening of his new exhibit. If you follow his other work outside of what he did for Thom it is amazing too see that he truely is the master of photoshop and digital manipulation. Also, it is hard to believe that he is 35 and looks about 19; but, I guess it goes to serve the point in his other work featuring himself playing all the "roles" in the photographs.

Also, apparently he and Thom had a "falling out." :o

Etro, that suit looks amazing. I think it puts aside any doubts most of us could have regarding Thom's notable quirk. There's something about that fit, something I can only describe as "sexy".

There's something obviously sexual in Browne's work, disturbing, but sexual... Those men with boyish unifrorms... Pure perversion  ...
It's exactly the same with Goicolea, his work is very disturbing but very eye-catchy and moving. There's something timeless/fantasmatic in those uniforms...

Don't think it was brought up before. But this coming fashion week Thom is opting to show in Paris where avant guarde collections are "well recieved" instead of New York where designers are required to be "commercial."

Oh yah...here is what I wore to the opening reception of Anthony's new exhibition.

Bergdorf's Thom Browne push (summarized from DNR:(
Starting in August Thom is going to occupy all 3 floors of Bergdorf Goodman. The couture shop will remain on 3. The 2nd floor will have a more classic and "sartorial line" of basic suits, shirts and ties. The first floor will have a shirt/tie shop with the shirts in the grey boxes (I can post pics of mine when I went to the Tribeca store) with a grosgain ribbon wrapped around it and the fabric swatch on the outside.
The suits are going to run $3400-4200 and shirts $325-$395. Ties will stay the same around $160 and be made from suit swatches.
Right now the sizing of TB stands at 0-3 (36, 38, 40, 42) and the "sartorial line" will also have 4s and 5s.

I like the quality of his work,
but i dont like the fit,
I also have a problem with off the rack suits costing so much money (although cost is relative to who can affort it) when one can buy a custon made saville row suit for a comparable, and sometimes cheaper price.
Etro, the cardigan is rather nice, also the shirts i would buy, but never the suits, at least not those pants. the reason being....... it may be trendy now, but what will you do with it five years from now when based on the quality it is still a very good suit, but no longer "in Vogue?"

Worry about it then.
Keep it for a while after that.
Donate it to The Costume Institute.

Well, i gues thats a very good way of looking at it,'
also you can break it up into two pieces and wear the Jacket with a complementary pants.
I like the quality of it, i just wish he would broaden his vision to accomodate a more realistic fit. I could see him doing that without loosing his client base or his integrity..........
