Tights and Stockings

Lena loves opaque tights.....maybe she has some good websites

Okay, so it is not exactly Dolce & Gabbana, but I did get some excellent tights at Target this past summer, for fall/winter use.

Two pair of sweater tights, one pair being plaid (brown with red and black) and the other pair are striped, dark brown, tan, grey, red, and black. Then I got three pair of fishnets (tiny, normal, and giant nets) plus a pair that look like spiderwebs and are really awesome over plain, colored tights; I typically wear them over red tights.

I got some heather-grey microfibre opaque tights, and a pair that are grey and black in a herringbone pattern. I got some brown/black ones in the herringbone pattern, too, as well as regulation coffee-brown and black opaque tights.

I have a couple of pair of Kenneth Cole sweater tights that I bought like 6-7 years ago that are still going strong, so if KC is still offering tights, I would recommend them highly. Quality.

A lot of times you can find cool stuff in the artsy/hippie districts of your city, so in Kansas City, the only place to go for cool stuff is the Westport area, though there is a cool shop that sells tights, stockings, and socks further south in Prairie Village. When I was living in York (York, N. Yorks, UK, not New York, NY) I bought some great brown/rust/black plaid tights in Boyes (akin to Dollar General) and some truly excellent argyle and zig-zag pattern psychedellic style tights (a lot like the bizarro D&G ones, actually) in this little gothy/punky/hippie shop on High Petergate.

indeed, since opaques are the only kind of tights i ever wear

still i never buy them online so i'm not much of a help here (i can be searching for the right shade of red days, i'm this kind of peculiar with shopping) :ninja:

btw i got some great red & orange one's from H&M and two pairs of green from small stores, purple opaques are also faves (havent found the perfect shade of purple yet but i'm working on it)

ps: welcome to tFS As You Like it :flower:

Thanks for the welcomes, folks!

I also remembered that capezio and Danskin have catalogues and offer plain colored opaque tights, though you may be able to find a dance or sports supply shop in your area and see what they have on offer. That's where my kelly green tights came from.

Oh I know the feeling all too well, but, I finally found the purple of my dreams last week :woot:

I couldn't find them too at first here in holland! So i bought some really pretty purple-coloured (ribbed) normal tights and cut the feet off and polished it with nailpolish so it wouldn't tear.. and now sudenly they are in all stores

  I just bought some MOD Pink tights for 2.00 regular 12.00.
But now what do I wear with. Help Please!!!!!!!!!!

Anything you darn well like, really. All black, all white, black with pink, white with pink... I would let the tights be your highlight though. If you're brave and have decent legs, go for a mini, but keep your top covered up. And maybe some fun earrings to match. I personally am slightly in love with my collection of tights... :buzz: Have tons of fun wearing them.
Oh- I nearly forgot tutus! A black one would look fantastic with your tights, if they're a brighter shade. I'd only attempt one if you're not too old though. And layering, too. What I sometimes like to do if, if you have black and white striped as well, is to have the pink under the other. I had better stop being so excited now.

Are they just standard opaque tights?

I have a pair of hot pink and they're fun to throw into an outfit to punch it up.

You could of course wear them with a basic black shift dress and black flats or black knee high boots, or with a denim mini, pointy flats and a cute 80s style sweater. Another idea I like is to wear them with really rugged winter boots (something along the lines of mukluks or those Steve Madden "iglou" boots from last winter), a tattered denim mini skirt and a preppy cable knit sweater or something like that.

Follow the '60 mood, wear the tights with short dresses, plastic acessories and nice flat shoes, as Twiggy. Or wear the pink tights with a casual outfit like denim skirt, handmade pullover and thick scarf, a poncho and a pair of boots, like Uggs.

Black fishnets over them would be really, really, really cool, especially with a little short black skirt and either black flats or little, flat-heeled black ankleboots.

Try wearing the pinky's with green, I think that green and pink are great colors together

I really love tights, stockings, etc and I was wondering where you guys find yours. I'm especially looking for unusual, interesting colors, but I don't know where to find the colors I want or what prices I should expect at various stores.

For example, I love this look, which relies on the unique color combination of the reddish orange stockings and scarf with the violet dress. Where could I find these stockings (and the scarf, come to think of it) and what prices should I expect? They're Anna Molinari a/w 04, I believe.

Another designer (the picture was posted somewhere on this site but I don't know where...) paired opaque teal stockings with black lacy stockings and it was absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could find the picture...

So...please post sites that sell great leg coverings, stores that sell them, pictures of great usages, opinions...anything goes. :flower: I'm sure that you guys will come up with some great pictures.
