tipping the stylist?

do people tip their hairstylist in your country?

if yes, how much? (and which country)

do ppl give them cash or use cc?

just curious :flower:

I always tip my stylist 20% of the service charge (more if she's given me a "freebee" service). I pay cash and live in the US :flower:

Personally, I think it's just bad form to not tip your stylist, shampoo person, aesthetician, etc. Anyone providing a service like that should always get a tip.

we always tip the stylist in Europe, its around 10-20% or more when during holidays and always in cash...
i leave the tip to the hand of the stylist before leaving the salon

*this thread reminded me to book my hair appointment for Friday.. :D

I typically tip 15-20% of the cost as well. A lot depends on the time they spend on really trying to do a good job, or just get the job done. I think it's generally considered ignorant to not tip, unless the service is just horrible. Lately I've been going to one of the nearby beauty schools (yes I'm gutsy), because it's cheaper, and the stylists are usually more willing to do what I want them to do, vs playing it safe. I still tip the rate I would pay at a regular salon though. It's always sad to hear someone get an "asian straightening treatment" (I think it is what it's called)...well it takes almost half a day to do, and then have the customer walk out without tipping. :( I'm in the US and I think my tips have always been in cash.

I tip my stylist cash. I dont have a % mark or anything like that but with her Im always so pleased with her work that I tip whatever I feel like giving at the moment and dont see it as a chore.
I live in the US

normally 15 - 20 % depending on time and style etc. I liv ein the uk.
I dont know about other places but here in the uk its extreamally rude not too.

Forgot to say i tip more if he stays open late etc. for me or does it at weekend.

I'll always tip at least 15%. But usually if I love how I look I'll tip 20-25%.

I always tip my stylist. I love her work and she really puts a lot of personalization and effort into everything she does, and the prices are dirt cheap to begin with. Personally, I feel she deserves more so I usually just pay whatever I think she should be charging. I live in Canada by the way.

Standard tip percentage in the U.S. lingers around 20%. I usually leave a bit more if I feel really satisfied.

I'm in the US and tip about 20%--a bit more if she's taken extra time or done a particularly good job. I also leave a separate tip if someone else shampoos my hair, *unless* they've been totally inept, squirting water in my face, burning or freezing me, yanking my hair, etc. In this case my tip is not complaining about their using me as a guinea pig for someone who started yesterday :p

I use my debit card and the salon gives me cash back, which I place in envelopes provided with to/from names & a very brief note (like "Thanks!"). I don't feel comfortable tipping directly, I guess because it introduces money into a friendly relationship, although I do for valet parking where it's the only way to be sure the $ is getting to the proper person.

Etiquette says not to tip salon owners, but I have occasionally done that. Once my luggage was lost, including my shampoo, and I was sooo grateful to get my hair washed and styled that I left a nice tip even though she was the owner, and she very much appreciated it.

When in a salon, spa or beauty shop when is it appropriate to tip and when is it not necessary to tip. Maybe I don't understand the whole politics of the situation, but my thinking is such that, if you're working for an employer and you getting paid by that employer, why should I give you more money? A hair dresser I can kinda understand, a student I can definately understand (as they basically get nothing), but anything else, not really. I guess my biggest concern is I don't wanna feel obligated to tip. If someone does a wonderful job and that's how to reward them, then I"ll do it. But if you're just doing a basic job (wash and blow dry), unless it's outstanding, I don't feel the need to tip. Thoughts, feelings?

At the salon I go to I tip the person who shampoos (usually an assistant/student) my hair $5 and the person who cuts & styles my hair $10. If I go for a blowout only I will tip $5. It isn't necessary to tip the receptionist or someone who brings you coffee or water.

Manicurists/Pedicurists Tipping Anyone?

Mods....I did a search a didn't find a thread but if there is one...please forgive me.

Question:
How much do you tip your manicurist/pedicurist?

If the same person does both jobs do you increase the tip amount?

What say you.........:flower:

i always give $5 or $6 for each ... or $10-12 total if i am at just a general walk in nail center... more if it is at a spa
