Tom Ford F/W 11.12 London

I quite like this.

I'm somewhat surprised most of you don't. I can tell by his debut collection that Tom wasn't interested in creating new and innovative design. There's definitely a 70s vibe-- not just in the styling, but the tight silhouettes and rich jewel-tone colors of these collections, that instantly produce a sense of vintage, instant-classic and covetable desire and need for his very rich (and famous) clientele.

The over-embellished and ridiculously, unapologetically decadent production of the designs will cater very well to his Chinese, Arab and Russian clientele who wants that opulence, even if it may be a tad tacky. Just like his menswear collection.

This vision of his may not be my ideal of high fashion, but I can definitely appreciate it because, somehow, Tom's able to pull it off, while someone like Dundas, or Cavalli, just can't. For me anyways.

Though I am drawn to several of the pieces, it isn't entirely my taste. Nevertheless, it is guaranteed to make the Wealthy Lady swoon.

He needs to do a normal runway show with a more cohesive theme. While some of the clothes are great , some of it is just too stiff and a bit cheesy. This whole secret society he has is a bit moronic. He needs to do a regular runway show , like he use to do for Gucci or YSL .

^^ I have to agree......when you hold out for so long, and then the end result is not as good as expected, it leaves a bitter taste.
I realise he trying a different approach nowadays and for the sake of hype it's working, but then the expectation leaves something to be desired........and nobody does runway shows like Ford did.
I think I would have appreciated this more, had it been on a catwalk. I know the video is edited choppily and before I make a informed opinion I would need to see all the pieces properly.

I'm completely seeing the Tom Ford era style clothing in all of this. Last season's collection seem to have promise, but if he is taking us back I don't know bout this (unless the Tom Ford models come back as well )

He does not need to do it if the way he is doing it now works for the company and is attracting the customers he wants. From the start of his own label, he stated that he wanted to be removed from the ever-revolving Trend Door that comes with runway shows and instead create clothes and accessories that he liked, regardless if critics liked it or not. His business model works for him definitely.

I'm a little surprised by all of the "over-embellished" or "tacky" comments. Maybe I just have a higher threshold for it, but this certainly isn't the tackiest collection I've ever seen, it's not even the tackiest collection of the season. I don't know if I'll end up loving it all once I can properly look at everything, but the color is refreshing from Ford and a good portion of it reminds me of his F/W 02 YSL collection, which I always thought was one of his best.

The only thing that I will admit bothers me is the hair and makeup. Paired with the jewelry it's way too 80s/90s Saint Laurent, which does date the whole look quite a bit. More minimal makeup, like a graphic winged eye and nude contoured face, would have made a big difference. The big hair doesn't really work for me either.

Lol at the tacky comments. This collection comes from a man who did a "vagina" collection (was it for YSL?).

And its quintessential Ford, he seems to be sticking to what he knows best and there's a bit of autoreferrencing himself. I'd give TF my firstborn for those purple stilettos.

The thing with Ford is ... he focuses on quality. And def you are getting bang for your buck here. Yes, nothing new but it doesnt mean it isnt good.

It reminds me a lot of what he did for Ysl, which isn´t bad for me at all, I enjoyed the decadence of it a lot and I feel like he is having fun with it, there aren´t specific trends from this season on it either but it doesn´t bother me.

It looks luxurious, expensive and I can totally see him on this.

Classic Tom Ford.
Loving the colors, the sexy materials and how it's not following any of the Fall/Winter trends.

Above all, loving how luxurious everything looks! Even more than S/S 2011!

For the most part like it, why are we to expect something new or innovative from him?

As mentioned before the day wear/cocktail looks are better than the gowns.

One thing that is stopping me from loving the collection is the lace. While in some looks it it placed perfectly (like in Natasha's coat/dress and on the suit on Anja at :46), in some it's just there for the heck of it and really not needed (in most of the gowns to connect the long sleeves, they just look like it was thrown on there for the sake of it)

The gowns would be better if they were strapless or the lace was added in more subtlety, the notable bras and undergarments are really unnecessary, you don't know where to focus on, if on the contrast from the lace/undergarments, the detail, the color, the cut of the gown... they're all over the place.

to me it looks like he is imitating his earlier self but badly. his mix of lace, flare trousers, velvet suits, corsets, jewel tones and black don't look any different than the first time nearly a decade ago but it suffers because then it was NEW. The lace napkins around the wrists? The goth/victorian bikini lingerie dress in multiple colors? ew. its not 2004.

Though most of the looks here are not new , they are still relevant . Thats the beauty of Tom Ford's clothes they don't look dated, his flares look even more relevant now after years of skinny pants, the pagoda jackets he put out in 2004, were heavily copied by Balmain in 2009-2010. Also lace has become a big trend of late.

eventually, the flocking vultures in the blogosphere will come to realize what the tom ford brand strives toward. the part of the fashion world that tom ford rejects circles around the instant-in-instant-out parade of clothes we've all seen before that everyone keeps trying to make "fresh" but not too good for fear that one might not come back knocking next season. tom ford has grown tired of the never ending fashion cycle that dictates that everything one season must get disposed in favor of the new. he doesn't enjoy the way fashion feels old before it even hits the stores and feels tired before it even gets worn.

tom ford did not design this collection with twittering bloggers in mind and he did not sketch these looks to appease the magazine crowd. he's creating something that actually means something to him and to his customers. the genius of this collection remains that even while he has rita and and carine and victoria and lisa and michelle and carolyn and anna in his mind when he's desiging these clothes, they reach out and captivate a large swath of women. women unafraid of full-on fashion but who do not have the time to change clothes three times a day as if they live in a reality show.

these clothes are for real women with real (fabulous) lives. they're going to pick up those boots and wear them for five years. they're going to grab a coat and keep it hanging in their country house for a generation. they're going to wear that red blazer over jeans one day and over a pencil the next. and while each piece bears his signature, these clothes have the somewhat unique quality of letting each woman make them her own. these are supposed to be her treasured pieces. and more designers are catching on to this: it's what reed krakoff is doing. it's celine's claim to fame. it's made stella mccartney rich. and it's why people clamor over an alaia after all this time.

it's most remarkable that he's done all of this on his own accord and on his own timetable. if you don't like it, don't buy it.

I prefer last season. This time around I think he is trying too hard. The embroideries look really kitsch and cheap. Actually, a great portion of this collection looks very cheap to me. It doesn't feel as luxe as his first collection did for some reason. I don't know why though?

Also, it seems very Roberto Cavalli to me. I see a great deal of that Florentine craftsmanship / Cavalli aesthetic in this collection.
