Tom Ford for Estee Lauder

I think the main reason that made EL to choose TOM is HIS work in refreshing YSL Beaute & making YSL Beaute - from nowhere- the No.4 on the beauty pyramid.

I think we'll see the ESTEE TRIO 'Liya Kebed , Liz Hurly & the other girl- forget her name'- in A 3SOME orgie!!!

a Ford developed product.. that may be somehow interesting..
but what could it be?

Tom Ford is probably either launching his own line of cosmetics... with Lauder serving as distributor... or maybe he's launching a fragrance of his own...

I think it's rather redundant to say how much of an icon Tom Ford is to some of us. But I would honestly say he's one of the reason's I got into Fashion (Plus he's from Texas, woo'hoo!). With the work that he did with GUCCI and basically revitalizaing their company I do not think he will have much problem with Estee Lauder. But then again it is 'a new venture that brings up a whole new set of possibilties (good and bad). So, all we can do is sit back and wait I suppose.

maybe he's launching some estee lauder rogaine to grow back his hair

As much as I'd love to see the day when major cosmetics labels realize that men need beauty products just as much as women, I somehow think a Ford menswear line for EL wouldn't be quite as exciting as what he could do with womens.

oops i shouldn't say menswear, i was just thinking mens beauty products
i dont think EL will ever go into garments.. but i think Tom would be good for developing the Lauder mens' grooming line after all, most companies already have their own male developed products so.. why not Estee?

he should develop a womenswear EL collection and re.design their cosmetic crappy image..
I miss his gucci & ysl girls so much...

ok, seems official
this is an extract from the wwd article of today..

Get ready for Tom Ford the brand.

Tom Ford and Domenico De Sole today will announce the formation of a new company to launch the label. The venture marks the first-ever Tom Ford brand, and the return of fashion’s so-called dynamic duo to the design-beauty arena they exited last year following their break from Gucci Group. According to sources, the company will be completely self-financed, with corporate headquarters in Los Angeles and a design studio in London.

The firm will launch with two deals, both of which are scheduled for signing today: a much-rumored pact with Estée Lauder and an eyewear agreement with Marcolin. Sources said these are the first two steps in what Ford and De Sole hope to develop into a major design enterprise.

Despite his impending return to design and beauty, Ford is said to remain serious about a parallel career in films. And he apparently has engaged in a bit of synergy: One Hollywood insider said Ford has incorporated his favorite color into the name of his production company, Fade to Black Productions.

As for the new design venture, Ford will be president and chief executive officer and De Sole the chairman. The Lauder deal will be accomplished in two phases, according to several sources familiar with the terms. A limited-distribution Tom Ford for Estée Lauder collection will facilitate a relatively speedy — read holiday — appearance on the market. This should feature a tight product selection and will likely draw from Lauder’s history of marketing high-end specialty items such as compacts and other vanity accessories. The joint-label introduction would allow time to develop the deal’s ultimate goal, a stand-alone Tom Ford beauty brand, possibly premiering for fall 2006 with a women’s fragrance. This line would ultimately replace the joint-label collection.

Contrary to published reports, Ford was never in discussions to become creative director of Estée Lauder, sources pointed out. In fact, development of a stand-alone Ford line with Lauder was always the ultimate goal of negotiations. Also contrary to published reports, the prospective deal has stirred no rift within the Lauder family.

.... A knowledgeable source said that ”Tom Ford will be working directly with the Estée Lauder brand, but not as creative director….He will not be employed within the brand.” Instead, Ford’s subbrand of beauty products will be marketed parallel to the flagship brand.

i think its VERY odd, he just seems desperate to jump back on the glam wagon..
no matter what, no matter how..

i dont find this a terribly clever move to be honest...

not yet

Its not signed yet.
aerin lauder loves tom but the older lauders are unsure about giving tom too much control.

Can Tom really push cosmetics? I think it's a little odd...

TOM's influnce is obvious in bringing YSL Beaute back to power & making it -from nowhere- the No.4 on the beauty pyramid.
the relaunche of paris, opium , kouros, rive qauche & in love again has reintroduce these classics to the younger generation. this is beside his influnce on the colors of the season & the cosmetics new packaging.

not to forget his big hits nu & m7 which can turn any frog to a prince.

but I didn't like cinema:innocent:

I'm mainly intrigued by what makes Ford feel consumers, beauty consumers, will trust him. I'm sure EL has its reservations, they know of his ambitious nature. How much do you let a guy like Tom get away with? We all know this is about more than just perfume or the tepid notion of reintroducing classics to a younger generation.

Also contrary to published reports, the prospective deal has stirred no rift within the Lauder family.

thats for lady grey.. seems the rift is not really such a big deal

Really?
Despite their high quality all YSLBeauty's products launched under Tom Ford's control has failed (like his Rive Gauche ready to wear collections) :M7, KINGDOM, RIVE GAUCHE HOMME sales are pretty bad , NU is considered by many cosmetic professionals "a disaster" and the make-up line "INTENSE" is discontinued.
CINEMA sells well but it was just launched to forget NU and has nothing to do with Tom.
